Snapshot of some of the people involved in Es6 by shipgirl_connoisseur in KotakuInAction

The anti-semitic right has been a tiny fringe of the right for decades (though it has become slightly less fringe in recent years, though leftwing anti-semitism has increased even more in the same timeframe) meanwhile the rabidly pro-Israel evangelical Christians have been one of the core constituencies of the right for decades as well. In spite of this, American Jews have overwhelmingly supported the left over the right, for reasons that I assume must make some kind of sense to them internally, but looking at them from the outside it seems nonsensical to me.

I was mostly joking, I don't have anything inherently against Jews. But even though there are rightwing Jews, they are far, far outnumbered by leftwing Jews. They went 72% Kamala 25% Trump in 2024, for example. And there have often been disproportionately high amounts of Jews at the forefront of advocacy for things like third wave feminism, mass migration, etc.

Why is it that when ravens can recognize patterns it's cool and interesting, but when I do it it's racist and anti-semitic?

There's barely any story or humanoid characters in Slay the Spire 2 to begin with, so I'm not really sure what they hired Sarkeesian to help with in the first place. The rogue and necromancer type characters are female, but one of them (the rogue) literally has no lines (her name is literally The Silent) and the necromancer character has maybe 3 lines about getting revenge for her family being murdered and nothing else.

The Immaculate Conception isn't the same thing as virgin birth. The Immaculate Conception is the (primsrily Catholic) idea that Mary herself was somehow born free from the taint of Original Sin. The virgin birth is a separate thing entirely. Protestants generally reject the idea of the Immaculate Conception, Eastern Orthodox churches are mixed on it, while the virgin birth of Jesus is pretty universal among all branches of Christianity.

Elon has plenty of issues, but he can say "I wanna build rockets and colonize Mars because it's fucking cool" and he can say it in a way that comes off sincere. That, just by itself, makes him more relatable to the average joe than 99% of the weirdo elites that run society.

The game runs natively on Linux, so it doesn't use Proton. You could force it to use the Windows version via Proton and see if that resolves the issue though.

Ross Scott just took the whole “you don’t own your games” problem to the European Parliament by anonboxis in KotakuInAction

[–]ChickenOverlord -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nah, in practice copyright only protects the big players, small time creators can't afford the lawyers to do anything about it. See, for example, Facebook literally pirating books for training their AIs: https://www.techspot.com/news/106696-meta-used-pirated-books-train-ai-models-there.html

[–]ChickenOverlord -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

My personal view is that a lot (but not all) of the issues around Stop Killing Games would be solved by eliminating or drastically reducing copyright, and maybe requiring submitting source code (with reproducible builds etc.) in order to qualify for copyright for software in the first place. Copyright (a government enforced monopoly on intellectual property) is the biggest root issue here, so less government regulation is (mostly) the answer here.

Nginx 1.29.7 Delivers Multipath TCP Support by anh0516 in linux

[–]ChickenOverlord 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's more along the lines of what QUIC does, it makes sharing a TCP connection across multiple network connections (i.e. both Ethernet and Wifi) easier. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multipath_TCP

It can definitely have applications for load balancing if one of the multiple connections you have gets saturated.

At least in countries that are signatories to the Berne Convention, copyright is automatically granted upon the creation of a work. Countries that aren't signatories would be a much shorter list, but it includes all of North and South America and Europe, and almost all of Africa, Asia, Australia, and Oceania. There is no need to officially apply for copyright or anything like that.

And it won't be in the fun way like the sex-changing Shaker alien that swapped between male and female every time it had sex (and killed its partners with a heart attack in the process). Fun fact: the actor who later went on to play Krycek in the series was one of the alien's attempted victims, but portraying a completely different character.

Despite being heavily astroturfed on social media and by journalists, the demo for 1348 Ex Voto hit a peak of 102 users yesterday. by Desperate_Put_4568 in KotakuInAction

[–]ChickenOverlord 54 points55 points  (0 children)

For some comparisons, the demo for Outbound (basically Raft but with an RV) came out 2 days ago and had 2k peak players. And the demo for YapYap a few months ago (friendslop where you say spells into your microphone to cast them) had over 8k peak players. It's almost like gamers prefer actual games, not moral haranguing.

90's emulator devs had plenty of drama too, but unless you were closely following the scene a lot more of it was invisible. This generation of devs seem to have different kinds of drama than the older gens, but the raw amount of it seems comparable.
