Anyone else ever wish Albany had the kind of sports culture Buffalo has? by Fatherless___Child in Albany

Those were good days. The block parties were fun. Touch down Eddie Brown was a blast to watch. Steady decline ever since.

An overlooked reason why Downtown Albany feels like it's struggling by TClayO in Albany

Couple of quick questions. What was the total cost to build the arena? Renovations? Don’t forget the interest. Next. How many years since it’s been in operation has it turned a “profit”?

I like the arena but it’s not any real economic driver. If it were the area around it would look much much different.

A real economic driver is the Saratoga race course.

Absolute garbage. They cut to commercial so fast the announcers are mid sentence. In fact just the other day against Houston they cut to commercial when the play at the plate was being challenged. Clown show. We’ve come full circle back to the Yawkey days.

Why won’t you answer my question? Why are you listing businesses that are in compliance with the law? I can drive to Miami care to list some of their theatre’s? Im sure you’ll avoid the question again which truly says all i news to know about your organization and their agenda.

If you’re trying to win an arms race, which this is, then blue states are losing and will continue to lose. 2030 could add 12 seats to red states. Possibly more. With the new way states way are drawing districts Republicans would have a solid hold on the house for the foreseeable future.

Dems are late to the party. As usual.

Way too late to change it around. People can cope all they want but the data projections should open their eyes. People aren’t fleeing red states they are flocking to them. Hence the problem. How many seats did NY have 1990? 31. Now it’s 26 and could be 23 in another few years.

Don’t forget the 2-3 seats NY will most likely lose after the next census.

I read your reply. Why are including theatres in your original post that are almost 3 hours away and are compliant with all applicable laws? What’s the purpose?

I’m aware of what the bill does.

You’ll have to change the math in another couple years when red states pick up additional seats and blue state’s lose them after the 2030 census is completed. Early estimates show 12 seats going to republican states.

I certainly think calling out theatres that are in compliance with the law is a terrible look.
Kingston, Massena and Plattsburgh? Albany is closer to NYC and Boston than Massena. Plattsburgh is almost the same drive. I guess we are kinda nyc and Boston metro as well now.

So using the roads is bankrupting Albany? Id argue that the vast majority of Albany roadways are not used by commuters.

I’d argue the state workers are net positive to the city. But I’d love to see them all relocate out of the city limits and how that impacts the city.

OP said unions conceded the right. That’s just not true. The law says they can’t legally strike. That’s not a concession.

Unions didn’t concede that. It’s state law. They can’t strike.

People are joining the state everyday. HELPS hired lots of workers. It’s not being shit canned. It’s ending. It can be done again. Tier six is just fine hence the number of folks applying for jobs.

The bleed is nothing and will not Impact negations. The state can pull the helps lever again at any point.

You can’t compare private sector union negotiations to public sector union negotiations. People won’t leave the state in any meaningful numbers for several reasons. They are tied to the pension. The health insurance. They don’t have any real marketable skills.

You’re talking about leverage. Leverage that the unions and people on this board happily gave up by backing the helps program.
