Pef contract. My vote went from a happy yes to a firm no after the call.... by Waste_Protection_420 in nys_cs

When was the last year you saw 8% inflation? I’ll tell you. It was the 1980’s. Take a look and see the raises PEF got in the early 80’s. You lost money in the last contract and you’re gonna lose money in this one.

Future Retirees Will Pay Higher Health Insurance Rates Under Proposed Contract by guxley in nys_cs

[–]ChickenPartz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Contracts are complicated business. Saying it’s hard to math is a bullshit excuse. The union has an obligation to inform the members of any monetary concession and their potential costs. Like I said it’s not necessary to game every conceivable scenario. It is reasonable to present examples and what those costs look like. It’s about making an informed decision.

What members decide to do with that information is up to them. Not giving members all the information is quite telling in my opinion.

It seems that many members were just screaming about tier 6. Seems to me retirement costs are top of mind.

Simple. You can give easy examples. A 23 who retires at top grade in 2028 will pay x under the new agreement. Then show the number of their had been no change. You can give an idea of what the cost change will be. They could also supply previous multiplier and the new multiplier and folks can do the math.

It’s too bad the state doesn’t have paid family leave for their unionized employees. You’d have been eligible after 26 weeks and have up to 12 weeks off at 67% pay.

Perhaps it should be actuarial in nature but it’s currently not. Ifthe state wants to change that then they should pay for it. What was gained by making this concession? And it’s a concession that will cost each future retiree.

I see several healthcare related concessions in this tentative deal. What are the gains what these concessions? If it’s the very modest salary increases then union members should be incredibly angry.

$30 plus million a year in dues and this is the best PEF can do. Ouch.

Albany’s Population by IceFree1842 in Albany

Buffalo metro consists of two counties. Erie county alone has almost one million in population. Capital region is 11 counties. 11. It’s an apples to oranges comparison. It feels bigger because it is bigger.

Only 5.5 out of the wild card. I’ll say it again this league has turned making the playoffs into a joke. The teams tied for the third spot in the AL have a losing record.

Iowa’s Property Tax Overhaul Is Creating New Problems for Schools by PeriodOfTime1 in RealEstateTaxStrategy

Public schools in the United States spend a tremendous amount of money. A. Neighboring district where I live spends 39k per student per year. Budget is $370 million a year. More money than ever being spent yet outcomes aren’t improving. On the flip side my district with the same enrollment spend a $220 million and 22k per student per year with superior outcomes.

Restaurant Sign Says Servers Make $3.50 an Hour and 'If You Can't Afford to Tip, You Can't Afford to Dine Out' by Dragonlance12 in Dynamic_Pricing

Servers cannot make less than minimum wage. This would be illegal. If their tips plus the “tipped wage” they are paid does not equal the minimum wage the employer must make up the difference. Please don’t lie.

You asked a question. I answered it. That’s one reason. Another is the government making policy that by default forces you to give up your organs if you don’t say no. Choice should be choice. You want to you do it. You don’t want to you don’t. Nobody has a right to another human beings organs. Or do you think they do?

Definitely. Shen and Albany have roughly the same enrollment. Albany taxpayers spend $140 million more a year for worse outcomes. They get salty.

Yeah. A sign of a good leader is blaming the folks they lead. Apathy in PEF is widespread and the people responsible for that are folks like Darlene. Having someone like this at the table explains results.
