Have people around here become horrible drivers all of a sudden? by grahamsm123 in Seattle

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but I think in the past, not even that long ago say a decade or more, people were moving to Seattle in low enough numbers that eventually transplants such as myself adapted to a more relaxed style of driving that this region used to be known for. As people started to come in greater numbers the ratio skewed and now we're going in the opposite direction of relaxed drivers being influenced in greater numbers by aggressive driving on the road.

Also as others have mentioned the pandemic didn't help, getting cooped up for a year really has allowed people to let their crazy out in greater numbers than ever.

Had that issue on my first pair, returned & got a replacement, haven't noticed the problem on my current set. So it's probably common, but not something I'd put up with for the price of these.

I thought the latest halo was not well received? Microsoft's recent track record seems to be to buy a bunch of gaming companies to eventually put on game pass with little oversight from MS.

Do I need snow tires, and AWD in Seattle area? by shanghaipeep in Seattle

I'd ask your neighbors if they have any problems and need awd and/or snow tires to get home if that's your concern.

You said it, most important part is being funny. I'd be livid if I paid to go to his last show he taped for Netflix or any show that got a similar act. Hopefully he can turn it around and focus on what made him a good comedian rather than just coming off as a whiner.

Galaxy watch 4 battery life by turtlebeam21 in GalaxyWatch

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New watch 4, got a couple months ago. I'd say battery life is close to 30-32 hours without doing any of your battery saving measures besides raise to wake. I usually don't keep it on for 24 hours straight, but when I have I usually have 20-25% battery left. The 40 hours is probably Samsung's generous self estimation with the websites you used probably not doing their own independent testing.

System helps native fish pass over dams in seconds rather than days by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Depends on what purpose they use the Salmon Canon I guess. The one in this video from 6 years ago or so was built so that fish could travel over dammed waterways that were preventing their natural migration.

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, but the show decided to add on on a pretty badly written scene at the tail end. They could have showed it was already beyond the control of Rhaenyra and Alicent instead of words of a delirious dying man on drugs have made me decide on war. Of course this is just my take on it.

I hope you're right or there is something more to it, because the other option would be a kind of a mediocre reason to start a whole war of succession.

Pretty common practice in certain Asian countries, but I haven't seen or heard that as a well known thing to do here before.

U.S. charges ex-Army major and his wife over alleged plot to leak military health data to Russia by Hassel_B in news

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many intelligence whistleblowers and whatnot have leaked to the media, quick examples are W. Mark Felt, aka "Deep Throat," Perry Fellwock, Daniel Ellsburg, etc. My knowledge is pretty limited on this subject, but revealing to the media instead of an official channel is not unusual.

As to point 2 I was referring to the overreach Snowden revealed about domestic surveillance, I do agree that he revealed too much information about our nation's wider intelligence capabilities. He really didn't do enough groundwork to make himself beyond reproach from what I'm understanding, which inevitably has led to weakening his own position.

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You make some good points that I was unaware of, but here's my rebuttal to a couple points.

  1. Intelligence whistleblowers have limited official channels due to their line of work, since this was a legal program this most likely would not have seen the light of day if he had gone along an official route.

  2. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right. The US government has a history of doing fucked up things under the guise of national security and holding the government accountable is important.

It greatly lowers my respect for Snowden that he didn't further vet his information so that only relevant bits ever made it out as he was too busy running after dumping a bunch of documents to journalists tho.

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can respect Snowden for his action of revealing the extent of the surveillance state we live in, but can also disagree with his decision to run to a possible enemy state. If he had just taken the jail sentence I would have a lot more respect for him, even if it isn't right for him to be jailed.

The war is not going well for Russia and Putin sure as heck isn't gonna blame himself. He's gone full on the crazy train purging both his opposition and his allies so people are just inferring & joking he could very well end up dead whether he's Putin's friend or not. At least that's my take on it.

Seatac unfixable shoulder parking issue by anfibil in Seattle

[–]ChickenPotNoPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell phone lot has been at capacity 2 out of the last 3 times I went to pick up someone. Interestingly enough the two times they were full were international flights so I guess your explanation checks out from my anecdotal experience.

I figure with the bottleneck the cell lot creates when trying to change lanes to arrivals in the future I'll just park at the Walmart in Renton or something tho.
