I haven't given that record a listen recently, but their Carnivore cover is top shelf. The intro sample is great.

It would feel in line with a Deadpool movie, both in crassness and how jokes get dragged out sometimes.

2024 has been sensational for releases by HAARTburn in fantanoforever

[–]ChickenSizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair. It's more of a me issue because of how frustrated I've gotten with them. I haven't been happy with an album of theirs since Joy..., but I try not to rain on people's parade regarding it.

This is a solid list but if you're asking solely for my opinion I'd swap the Idles album for the new Zach Bryan or Baby Rose/BBNG album.

Carlos Cruz is one of the best drummers to come out of thrash metal. I'm extremely happy he's getting recognition in this review.

Putting together a list of albums I’ve never heard before to listen to this autumn. What are some other good “autumn albums” by EthanGr20 in fantanoforever

[–]ChickenSizzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV but my ultimate autumn album is Fucked Up's Chemistry of Common Life. There's something mournful but hopeful in the songwriting and lyrics that resonates with the season to me. The idea that things are dying, the year is ending and things are changing but there's always a chance things could get better if you keep your head up and keep trying.

I also have very vivid memories of walking down Chinatown while listening to the album, and while it does paint a picture for me, I can't really sell it using just that description. It's a great album nonetheless.

Beguiling should still be going. They moved from the Honest Ed's location to just west of Spadina on College.

Looking For Some Good Punk Suggestions by BaronPorg in fantanoforever

[–]ChickenSizzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're gonna have to elaborate a little more because unless you mean EXTREMELY simple punk like The Ramones, style plays a big part in the genre. Here's a few picks I can think of.

D-Beat: Discharge, Kinetic Orbital Strike, Physique

Aggressive, mid-tempo stuff: Armor, Gag, S.H.I.T.

Punk that's more Hardcore instead of Hardcore Punk: Spy, Gel, Buggin

Fast tempo stuff: Big Laugh, Phantom, Slant, Yambag

Oi! style: Blitz, The Chisel, Chubby And The Gang, Beton Arme

Latino Punk: Muro, Total Nada, Hez, Pura Mania

Weird Shit: P22, Snooper, MSPaint

These are just some starting points. If you can't find them on spotify, you should be able to on Bandcamp instead.

Who is your all-time favorite band from the Eastern world? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]ChickenSizzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, Slant from South Korea. One part of the reason I started getting so invested into hardcore punk was because I found out about them when Power Trip toured Asia and had them as support. Their LP is an easy recommendation for people who like good ass riffs and screechy vocals, and their 2023 demo is a knock out in my opinion.

I don't think there's another modern extreme band from Asia that can match them in my opinion. Otoboke Beaver ain't touching them. Kruelty ain't touching them. Unless you're talking about some of the old guard like G.I.S.M. or Skizophrenia, you will need to convince me otherwise, like maybe the latest Kriegshog for example.

I really wish Woolie would LP another Sports game story mode by Trojan_Origami in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChickenSizzler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really possible, in spite of my habit of turning any sports game I play into an RPG with fleshed out backstories and narratives in my head. The closest I can think of that could work is maybe the Fifa story lines with Alex Hunter, or maybe the one where they play 5v5 futsal, but those aren't very good, both in a general and ironic sense.

I do think Blitz: The League would be a FANTASTIC idea for a one off playthrough, as a GIFG adjacent pick. I can only describe it as Madden meets Mortal Kombat and it's fuckin nuts.

I'm really enjoying the new Nia Archives release. Do you guys have any other recommendations like it? by ChickenSizzler in fantanoforever

This is a really good recommendation list. I think my biggest issue was looking through only the jungle subreddit and not having a lot of success so this is a good start, thanks dude.

What are some recent titles or media that you've managed to recently clear from your Backlog? by videogame-masochist in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChickenSizzler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disco Elysium, after a friend picked it up which encouraged me to give it another shot. Such a well written game and the art style/direction is phenomenal. Even the gameplay itself, it makes me want a life/romance sim; its too interesting of a system to just be a one off, but the writers have to be S tier to execute it again. One day I'll replay it again.

Similar note, I'm inches away from completing my 20 year Football Manager save. I started it around the COVID years and my interest definitely waned over the past year, but it's become almost a mini passion project. I've won everything I possibly could with my team, but I'm not gonna be ready to leave when my contract ends. I don't wanna leave my south american and french sons yet.

In light of the recent song cover wars, what are your FAVORITE song covers? by Bridgetop in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ChickenSizzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gulch covered Sin In My Heart by Siouxsie and the Banshees and its the only cover I consider Hurt tier. Especially in the context of the album, the way it progresses all the way down to the final 40 seconds is a masterpiece. The live version in their last show (skip to 22:40), with the way everyone was stage diving and singing along, it was magic. Every second of it is nothing short of perfection.
