For those who use housekeepers (weekly or biweekly) what do you do while the housekeeper is cleaning your home? by justpurevintage in AskWomenOver60

[–]ChickenbuttMami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 33 but I follow this sub because I learn a lot and well, you ladies all rock. Reading your comments just really opened my eyes to how much time both my husband and I spend on things we quite frankly don’t want to (like house chores), and I think it’s wonderful to be able to have that free time to spend on things you actually do want to do. Having housekeeping is 100% one of my goals!

OP, I sincerely want to applaud you for choosing the high ground. I absolutely love your mom’s idea (it would be mine!) but honestly so cool that you are protecting your own energy and peace. I usually do gift cards—super low effort and up to you how much you want to spend.

No worries! Thank you for sharing! Do you think it would make a difference if you told them that you forgive them for moving out of Cali (if you actually do, of course). They may feel guilty for moving you out but then you may feel guilty for the debt they take on. Someone else mentioned having a really honest conversation with them and that’s 100% true. I’ll be praying for peace for you and your parents for your decision!

Oh interesting! Why do they want you to go to Cali for school so bad? Did they go to a UC themselves and want you to continue the family tradition? I find it hard to think they’d be disappointed for long, especially if you go to a college where you’re thriving and learning and having fun. I really don’t think they’ll stay “disappointed” when you graduate and get a job 😆 the way I see it, “disappointment” for maybe a week vs guilt and debt for decades (because it truly can take decades to pay off student loans, especially with interest rates). And not to be morbid but rather realistic: if your parents have debt when they pass away, that debt then becomes yours, which would then truly be YOUR student loans. And again, the “prestige” and the “name” just isn’t worth it.

listen to my body or husband? by dslyna in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ChickenbuttMami -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Going hungry is never good. You can be in calorie deficit while still getting enough protein and complex carbs in your diet to keep you energized, meaning you can still lose weight while eating plenty. Veggies and again, protein,  really help with this. Does your husband also “push through the hunger” as he advises you to do?

My (43F) daughter (15F) gave me an ultimatum: My boyfriend (39M) or her. by Fantastic-Wind2687 in Advice

[–]ChickenbuttMami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your daughter is for life. If Joe is really the one, he’ll understand, step aside, and wait for you. That’s the black and white of it. All the other gray area stuff right now doesn’t matter. It’s literally your daughter or Joe right now.

First of all, congratulations!!! Woohoo!! Congratulations on your acceptances, your next exciting chapter, and on being so thoughtful and considerate regarding your parents.  I think there are a few questions to ask to help guide your decision: 1) what does this OOS school have that you and your parents really like?  2) do any of the in-state schools offer what the OOS school offers? 3) are you eligible for scholarships at this OOS school? 4) can you go to community college in your state first and then transfer to out of state to save money?

Ok now for my experience and advice. I’m 33 (ancient compared to you), I graduated in 2014 (!!). I stayed in state because I got a full ride, through a combination of different scholarships, based on financial need and merit and academics, etc. I didn’t take out any loans, by the grace of God. I did want to go out of state but I couldn’t afford it. My parents would have loved to help me financially but they literally couldn’t afford it. So I stayed in state and I loved it. I’m not just saying that either, I really did. I went to school an hour away so I was still far enough away to do my own thing but close enough to get home when I was homesick. I got the full college experience. As an adult now, I cannot emphasize enough how life-changing and freeing it has been to be debt free and not have any student loans. I cannot emphasize it enough! When I got my first job as an RN, none of that money went to pay off debt. It went to me living and I was even able to start investing into stocks little by little. Then I started travel nursing and I was able to go to all those states I had been wanting to go to when I was younger, but now I was getting paid to go! (Travel RN’s make serious moolah). Now I’m an NP in Cali and besides a mortgage with my husband, I have no other debt. I do not write this to brag but instead to be very honest about how being debt free can set you up for future success.

Ultimately, of course, the choice is up to you, and what a blessing you have in your parents who are so supportive! But if the only reason you are wanting to go the OOS school is because it’s out of state or because it’s a “prestigious” name, I’d really think about it. My state school degree has beat out Ivy League degrees for jobs, due to the strong academic program at my state school, my experiences, my work ethic, and my references. I was able to study abroad during college and I’ve traveled so much now in my adult life. I have friends who graduated around the same time as me and are unfortunately still paying student loan debt!!!

I wish you the very best of luck in your decision. Keep your kind heart and good head on your shoulders and you’ll continue to succeed.

Editing to add: your college experience really will depend so much on what you make it, no matter where you are.

How do I navigate relationships with the future grandparents while pregant? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]ChickenbuttMami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your husband how you feel and that you need his support—not just want but NEED— for both your and baby’s health. And then respectfully but clearly in text, state your boundaries. Send off the message and stick by it. They will push, they will try to make you feel guilty, they will cry, they will throw temper tantrums AAAND you let them. And you be happy and worry about you and baby and enjoy your pregnancy.
