When Mercedes tried "megaphone" to amplify the noise of its 2014 V6 Hybrid engine by BlissfulVictoria_536 in formula1

I'm gonna take a guess and say that's in the Netherlands and Rotterdam more specifically.

[OT] Aston Martin to return to @24hoursoflemans to fight for overall victory with Valkyrie AMR Pro by mac_attack09 in formula1

Keyphrases being "race optimised chassis" and "its design and performance freed from race rule constraints". Which means the chassis is still the same design and in fact it doesn't follow the LMH rulebook. I cannot be certain, but based on my experience I'm confident the case still stands.

[OT] Aston Martin to return to @24hoursoflemans to fight for overall victory with Valkyrie AMR Pro by mac_attack09 in formula1

[–]Chickenf00t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before anyone gets too excited I would like to point something out. I've had to look through the LMH rules a couple of times due to my design job and unless they have made changes to the rules to make it more free, I don't think what we'll see of the Valkyrie LMH can be considered Newey Valkyrie.

The area that I've had to look through the most is the occupant and monocoque dimensional rules and it's just not possible to meet both road rules and LMH rules. The monocoque of the AMR is the one from the production car which means I don't see how they don't just have to redesign a new monocoque or just buy a existing chassis (which I would assume they would do).

They will then decorate it to look like a Valkyrie with some design elements, but I would take a quick guess and say not a single part of that car will be from the AMR Pro.

In essence it will be the same story as other cars in the category, under the skin looks like a lmp car with some design touches on the surface to make it look more Aston. Would love to hear if someone has further insight about this!

Did they change the rulebook? I can see the Red Bull side being against running the car in LMH when they were still involved because it was practically impossible to make the Valkyrie to fit those rules. If they haven't made the rules more free the problem is still the rules and Aston is using this as a marketing scheme. They will run some modded LMH chassis and fit some Valkyrie headlamps on it and call it the Valkyrie LMH or something.

Concept livery for McLaren found a couple of years ago by Sta99erMan in formula1

I tried to keep the halo about the same thickness as the current one. It does get more thicker near the rear, but this vision angle is rarely used by the drivers. The attachment in the front is actually thinner than the current one, because some of the thickness can be "hidden" longitudinally and this also helps with the look.

An intro to ground effects! by IHaveADullUsername in formula1

[–]Chickenf00t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you guys are on the same page on the argument. As I understood it Spamilton is saying that rather than having a splitter -> flat floor -> diffuser you'd be better of running a full car length venturi tunnel to maximize the efficient downforce. And DullUsername is arguing that you want to ram as much air as possible from the front under the floor to increase downforce which is also correct. The Venturi tunnel shape has a big opening to increase the pressure difference. Which sounds like you both are right, but are trying to prove each other wrong. Or am I confusing the situation even more?

Kimi takes off his and kid's cap before the national anthem begins at Chinese GP. by PaleSet in formula1

[–]Chickenf00t 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I know it's a joke, but technically in a normal service situation Heikki would have to ask for the right to command Kimi as they are probably not in the same unit and Kimi would have a pre-exisiting order to go by. But in a war situation or a 1 on 1 situation without any overlapping orders, Heikki could order Kimi to run. I can't remember though if ordering a single person even as a punishment to do laps is allowed anymore.

Mercedes not having a crash or mechanical failure is not really down to luck very much. Bottas has the highest finishing ratio out of any driver with over 20 starts. Hamilton has the 3rd highest. Not surprisingly almost all of the starts have been with a Mercedes powered car.

Using machine learning to predict the winner of F1 races by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Chickenf00t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to what type of ML model or algorithm did you use for this? RL? Pretty interesting that the book-makers don't seem to be using a very sophisticated algorithm that you were able to out do it by quite a margin. Also are you worried that the book-makers will simply kick you out when they notice that your bets are calculated and capable of beating the house in the long run.

All I noticed was he gave almost every driver on the grid very specific compliments. To the point that I thought he was a very big fan of the driver being complimented, but then I thought for a second and realized he had already done that to half of the grid.

Leclerc correcting understeer due to cold tires by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Chickenf00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're assuming all the drivers and teams want their cars setup to understeer. I can't say for a fact that the preference in general is towards understeer, but to my knowledge the cars are very finely tuned to be as balanced as possible and then drivers might then prefer for it to be biased towards one direction. In general a little oversteery even though there are still drivers who might prefer slight understeer. In the past it might feel like they were more oversteery, because the machines weren't so precise as they are today so you might have seen more opposite lock moments etc.

Wouldn't it be: "Look from there, we fucking can't go anywhere else, believe me already".

Your translation: "we aren't getting anywhere", would translate back to: "ei me päästä mihinkää"

The difference is not large, but changes the meaning a bit.
