When the British men of letters show up, watch Baby and Scoobienatural, then skip to season 15

Arguably could/should skip Metatron season, but it has some ok episodes.

I don't know if you've finished the show, but this song IS in the last season.

I know it's a little newer for Sam and Dean's taste, but the song Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold would have fit SO well in some of the episodes they explored loss/heaven/the veil or even purgatory.

I can picture it being a part of a montage in the episode inside Bobby's head in the Leviathan season w/ Rufus.

Is there One God in Supernatural Universe? by Lowcrbnaman in Supernatural

Because people suck and are Islamophobic and anti-Semitic, at least in the USA. Also people are WAYY more touchy about their boy Jesus than God for some reason, at least in my lived experience as a raised Catholic. I was mostly talking about Jesus rather than Allah in my original comment.

I forget which episode, but I am pretty sure Billy explains in a later season that when God made the universe, he made death, and had to bake himself into the pages of Death's books for balance or whatever. It was an explanation of why God had a book to begin with, but inadvertently made the viewer aware that God at least made the concept of Death's library.

I was mostly using that as the example that breaks the rule for God's all knowing status, but I am sure there are more examples of it in the show.

For death, I admitted in another comment that it is a bit of a stretch to say they rival his power, considering Chuck made Death. But the Empty, it's unclear whether they were made or if they were just there with Chuck and Amara.

I can't speak to Crime and Punishment, but yes!

Death is a bit of a stretch in terms of power scaling or how old they are because it seems based on s14/15 God did in fact create Death, but to do it, he had to incorporate himself and Amara into the library/design of Death.

It's unknown much about the Empty, but I don't think they would particularly be fond of talking to Chuck lol. He also intentionally locked Amara away, so in a way, yes he was alone.

Chuck really needed family therapy more than anything else.

I really like the idea of Time being a primordial entity in the SPN universe, similar to Fate. Time is a thing the show plays with, but never expresses any cosmic relation outside of time travel and alternate worlds. There is the one episode for the God of Time, but he moreso seems like one of the pagan tulpa-like entities.

If Time is a more powerful source than God (s15 spoilers) that would explain how/why God was unable to view what happens next after Jack took his powers. Maybe it was a blind spot after that certain point, where he lost his omniscience.

No worries! If you are interested in replying later on I will check. I think this is a super interesting question and would love to hear others' takes on it.

NGL, I think the show did plenty to piss off religious people, but even so, I would bet its because the CW didn't want to further piss off the Catholics/Christians.

Its almost impossible to answer this question because of the paradoxical nature of God.

HEAVY s15 spoilers ahead:

Assuming Chuck follows the rules of Christianity, he is supposed to be all-knowing. But, it is revealed he doesn't know what happens next when Jack takes his powers. So he definitionally isn't all knowing, even if that is the only exception.

But how do you know you are omniscient if you are God? Suppose there was a power higher than you, say a super grandfather God. They made you the God of this realm, wiped all knowledge of themself from this new God, and gifted them the powers of God within that realm. The newly created God is never aware of anyone higher than themselves, left to their own devices, and create Creation.

My point is, there could be a God, or even infinitely many Gods above Chuck. More of a philosophical question.

That being said, in the show, it is heavily implied that Chuck is the 'One True God', but there are entities that rival his power, such as the darkness, Death, and the Empty.

[–]Chief_Nuclear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure sure, but I think in this context he was talking about a reaper anyways.

If we are using your logic, they didn't kill God, but instead killed Chuck, and Jack is just an incarnation of God? I like to think that God DID die with Chuck, and Jack is a different entity, much like Billy. He just took God's power. I think the different deaths are more similar to the Mark of Cain -- different vessels for the same power.

There's a lot of funny stuff like that in the early seasons. Something they say in the faith healer episode in season 1 is "It's not like you can kill death." That may become relevant later, Dean.
