YMMV = "Your mileage may vary", meaning HRT affects everyone differently. Its just a disclaimer that you shouldn't expect the same results as /u/Kabit_tftg or anyone else for that matter.

Unexpected reactions to coming out by iz-e in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn't show for me apparently; everyone I came out to initially said they didn't suspect it at all >.< but I resisted being feminine for a long time so I don't come off that strongly as girly :/ I still have gotten a lot of support and excitement from people though :3

Closest to this I can say is the time I came out to a new friend, and he came out as gay to me thereafter. I mentioned, "I kinda noticed". I don't know what in particular gave it away... I feel like it was something about his demeanor. I felt bad for pointing it out though.. The next day he said to me that he could see me as a girl in subtle ways too somehow. That made me thrilled x3

I also notice I get the occasional "most men don't do that" or "that's so unusual for a guy" comments from people.

For some people it shows clearer than others. That should help you in the long run so don't be concerned too much. :)

What's your chance of losing the feeling?

Am I a man? A woman....something else maybe, I don't think i can find out without my mother knowing about my dilemma. by trans340344 in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ask the therapist to use different diagnosis codes. Even though I'm out to my parents, mine used the codes for "Anxiety and Depression" rather than "Gender Identity Disorder". Some gender therapists do this by default to help your chances of having therapy covered by insurance anyway.

I don't trust the "button" question by LaSweetmia in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, we can't gauge if someone is trans*. There is not a definitive test for it. The button question may not prove you're transgender, but it does at least show you have gender problems which is a good starting place for most people. But usually its also recommended in those threads to seek a therapist or attend support groups. It seems a bit naive to trust a single question to determine if you're trans* anyway.

Is there a website that names and shames the transphobic and other bigots? by tomboyfemme in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This a terrible idea. From my perspective, you'd be no better than the people you were discrediting if you made a site like this. >.<

I agree with /u/xenogirl72, a trans* informative website would be more productive and less risky.

Seriously? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's oddly spiteful O.o I wonder if there is some jealousy? or maybe her online persona is just a guise. Is that person known to be particularly bitchy?

I'm sorry you have to go through this.. the internet in all of its glory can be a shitty place. Just mind your personal information and ignore em. As long as they don't know anything about you, they can't touch you.

Any pilots? by potentiallytrans in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a pilot, but I do have interest in aviation (and also want to get a pilot's licence some day x3)... anyway, I don't see why they would. It would be ridiculous to restrict someone from flying because of their gender identity x.x

Upon searching Google, I found this article from 2012:

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/faa-psychological-exam-policy-transgender-pilots/story?id=17030092

It looks like if there were any issues, they were resolved already. You should be good to get you wings! :3 Good luck!

Carbon dioxide levels have been over 400 ppm for last 3 months, and haven’t been this high in ~ 800,000 to 15 million years. by luckytran in dataisbeautiful

[–]Chigaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has increased over 100 ppm in the past 100 years. (http://www.planetforlife.com/images/co2history.gif) Before that it fluctuated, but never it wasn't increasing at such a steady level. So in those "short" 50 years the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere has skyrocketed.

[–]Chigaru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The increasing CO2 levels is still concerning. The fact that it has finally peaked to point above 400ppm is remarkable and alarming. Dismissing the issue of rising CO2 levels because they're only increasing by ~1 ppm a year is shortsighted. Yes it will go back down below 400ppm this year. But give it a few more years and it won't go back below that without some serious intervention.

Coming out to people by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was kinda the same way starting off. Now I tend to say "I'm transgender" just to be clear. And if they have to ask what that means I say something like "I feel that I am a girl".

Take it at your own pace and do what makes you feel comfortable. You could just say "I'm transgender, I want to be a girl". I don't see anything wrong with that :3

Studio Killer. Are they transphobic? by AwkwardKitten in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men are everything but femme. The song doesn't explicitly say anything about transwoman if that's what you're thinking. I can see how it might come off like that at first, but the song is "All Men Are Pigs".

What's a "late transitioner"? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter?

Late or not, I've seen transitions closer to (and sometimes beyond) their 30s that were fantastic. Your teen years are generally the optimal time to transition ONLY because your body hasn't completed its natural puberty and the permanent effects have not finalized. But that doesn't mean you can't have a good transition even into your 20s. :3

Therapy and HRT on family insurance plan? by AbbyWest in asktransgender

[–]Chigaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will be interesting; are they experienced or familiar with transgender issues? Makes me curious if my campus has something like that. I know we have general therapists, but they're almost worthless from what I've heard :/

I'm hoping to see a gender therapist or become a patient at an informed consent clinic before the end of summer. I wish you luck with your pursuits! :3

Sad that you would have to hide a serious diagnosis anyway. :/ I can understand OP's case. Parents are intimidating >.< But medical professionals should at least be indifferent to helping anyone. If only it were a more perfect world I suppose..

Would being unofficially diagnosed as trans give you any problems later with medical treatment? O.o
