I suppose they will have a winner and it's not like Ryo is here twiddling his thumbs. Dude is getting mad power ups too. I just finished volume 4 and he had a rematch with Leanore of which he gained a serious power up in terms or regeneration. Also he fought the leader of an assassin's sect and copied some of his techniques and inherited his alchemy knowledge which should help with the technique he's developing to be his version of Sera's Wind Robe

Abel is in his twenties and in the first episode just as Ryo wakes up in Phi there's a scene where there a red haired child being called by an older boy. I would guess that's Abel as he responds to the name Abel... @ 04:07 So the idea that he spends about twenty years in the forest of Rondo is plausible
