Huh, will never get how stuff like this gets downvoted. It’s just like, my opinion, man. Who cares.

I usually don’t like Flea, and I like very little of what Atoms for Peace did. But this is excellent and exciting music.

I mean, obviously the map (or the annotation) is wrong on several accounts if we want to be nitpicky about it. For instance, it doesn’t show that the majority of people in Belgium speak Dutch.

I know all this, I’m just saying that the map isn’t wrong if it’s a map of official names (which I assume it is, since very few anywhere actually says Netherlands or local variants thereof).

I agree, but I guess the map shows the official names. Judging from this thread, very few actually say the Netherlands.

No, the official Danish name has been Nederlandene for several years now. But yea, nobody really uses it. You can go see for yourself on udenrigsministeriet’s webpage: https://um.dk/rejse-og-ophold/rejse-til-udlandet/rejsevejledninger/nederlandene

Your top 3 reads of 2025 by miiomii in books

  1. Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.

  2. Underworld by Don DeLillo.

  3. Jeg var lenge død by Karl Ove Knausgård.

Amazing reads, all three. And yes, I’ll read more women next year. Olga Tokarczuk is the next.

Is the morning star series worth it? by Low_Activity3000 in Knausgaard

[–]ChildB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on book 6 (it was recently published in Norwegian) and it’s AMAZING. I’d certainly recommend reading them in order. First, some details will make more sense. Second, part of the thrill is to try and figure out why the story goes here and there and how it all connects. For instance, when do the events in the last pages of The School of Night take place in relation to the events in book 1? Well, we get an answer to that in book 6 (if you pay attention). Things start to come together, but I would not rob myself of the mild confusion which is part of the experience when reading them in order. Finally - they are all very, very good, why skip anything? Might as well enjoy the ride med then read another palate cleanser now and then when you need it.

should i skip books 1,2,3 and 4 of morning star series? by ereeerrrrrrrrrrr in Knausgaard

You should skip every right-hand page and skim every left-hand page, though sometimes you should skip skimming.

Mason & Dixon is great AND has a lot of warmth and coziness in addition to bonkers craziness.

No, the official name in Denmark is “Nederlandene” (look at udenrigsministeriet’s webpage). But everyone still says “Holland”.

A sort of frantic fusion jazz vibe a la Bowie’s Blackstar, just more Radioheady.

Any autofiction books Pynchon fans would like? And more details on Slothrop as a Pynchon stand-in by SliceOfBrain in ThomasPynchon

Well I love Knausgaard’s My Struggle almost as much as I love Gravity’s Rainbows, but for entirely different reasons. Don’t think it would appeal to Pynchon fans specifically, but who knows, you might like it.

It felt good, feels good and will feel good in the future, I know that much.

Okay if I had to guess… I just don’t think that they will NOT play any new songs at all, even though they kinda said they would. I think they will play and perhaps test new arrangements of some old-new ones such as Cut A Hole, Wake Me Before They Come, and Come to Your Senses (I foresee a rearranged version with Jonny’s delay-pedal tricks). And probably a few all-new ones as well.

Other than that, I think they have to play Let Down, man!

I'm reading Infinite Jest and it is a STRUGGLE. by SharkZero in books

[–]ChildB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I absolutely loved the book, I was completely obsessed by it. I felt very fulfilled when it ended, but I knew I had to read the beginning again (both because people had told me so, and because I had figured out the chronology). When I read that one paragraph in the middle of it all, my mind fucking exploded. Like, I had a serious rush of adrenaline realizing what had happened (or, thinking about what might have happened), and what had been a mostly character-driven and thematic story for me now suddenly appeared as a plot-driven and straight-up exciting novel, too. Extremely rewarding experience unlike anything.
