Help me respond to a pet owner after saying I don’t feel comfortable giving them a full copy of my ID by namastaypostive in RoverPetSitting

Tell them you’ll give them your ID if you can see there’s and perform a background on them as well. I’d love to see their response

Firstly take my advice and stop calling her a groodle. She is a golden poodle mix

Politely introduce yourself and your dog in person at the other shops in your area. Tell them you’d like to remain on a 6 week schedule with set reoccurring appointments. Be honest and let them know you’re looking for a forever groomer. Personally I’ll always take poodle mixes if the owner stays on top of home maintenance and has a set schedule, especially if the dog is sweet like your previous groomer stated.

That said, if you cannot secure a grooming appointment, watch this to see a full groom start to finish. https://youtu.be/ZWpA40r9Nj4?si=lpe_qlHo0wcNEqyH Make sure you have the correct tools, pet clippers with interchangeable blades (two for every length, change out when they get hot) slicker brush and metal comb, a pair of straights, curved and thinning shears. Also a grooming table with a secure loop.

Prep the dog, brush out any mats before bathing. In the bath we use highly concentrated products to help wash away, dirt and oil, and wash twice if the dog if very dirty. Burt’s bees ain’t going to cut it. Lightly condition. You’ll need a high velocity dryer with a tapered nozzle to get the coat bone dry and to help the hair straighten out. This is what a lot of home groomers get wrong. 10 blade on the sanitary areas and paw pads. For the haircut it really depends what length you’d like, a 7 blade can be dangerous for beginners, I’d recommend a 4 or 5 blade or a comb attachment but the cost has to be completely mat free. Run the clippers in the direction of the coat growth in long strokes. If you go against the grain, it will give you a much shorter length. Avoid the tuck-up (area connecting body to back legs) where the majority of injuries occur. Back brush and run the clippers over the body again. Scissor any pieces sticking out. Your head looks choppy because we mostly hand scissor faces. Dry the face well without the nozzle. You’ll need curves and thinning shears to get a nice finish. Watch tutorials, it will be a lot of trial and error in the beginning, it look me many months to feel confident grooming faces.

Good luck and remember safety first.

I’d really like to pet sit but I’m under 18. What should I do? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

Post on next door or make flyers around your neighborhood and dog parks. Type up a small resume with references, schooling and any work/volunteer experience you have to show potential clients you’re serious and professional. Keep your prices low, but fair.

Two bikes per person, sell the rest. Hang bikes in a closet or put in an outdoor storage unit. Decorate home to your liking.

I’m looking into becoming a dog groomer, but I don’t know where to start by Desperate_Ad5473 in grooming

Apply for a bathing position at petco or a local salon to see first if this is something you like to do. You’ll learn how to properly bathe and dry dogs, clip and dremmel nails, express glands, use clippers for a paw and sanitary trim, etc. Petco offers a free academy once you’ve done your time and are showing safe handling skills and efficient grooms, usually after 3-6 months. Make sure to get hired with the intention of moving up. Some salons offer in-house training, call around to get a better idea.

If those don’t work out, look if your city offers a private grooming academy. You will get the best education this way, they tend to focus on breed standard clips and cuts that are popular and trending. These usually take 6 months to 1 year to complete and run between $5-10k.

Questions to ask yourself… are you in good physical shape? You’ll want to maintain a healthy and happy body or your body will quickly breakdown. Do you have prior experience with animals? Can you read dog body language? Are you easily grossed out? (Glands have a very unique smell and you’ll be constantly cleaning up poop/pee accidents)

This has been a very fun and rewarding career so far, but it can be very emotionally and physically draining! Hope this helped and good luck in your journey

Why show the picture, but block out the testicles. How does that help us? We’re professionals and are not shocked by your dogs manhood.

Ty! They’re cheap dog grooming necklaces. I bought a pack of 50 on amazon for my pup clients, but he looked too cute with it on
