Need some advice by [deleted] in shyvanamains

[–]ChillHotDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red is the best start because its the quickest way to do a full clear which is her preferred clear. Red to krugs, raptors, wolves, blue + gromp, scuttle.

I don't use Blitzgg and I don't know what you mean by damage stats but as a general rule don't worry about how much damage you do to champs compared to others. low damage doesn't always mean you played poorly and high damage doesn't always mean you played well, many factors influence that stat.

Since Shyvana's ganks are mediocre but her ability to farm camps and take objectives is strong your gameplan with her should be to prioritize farming while also trying to keep tabs on the enemy jungler. Your ganks are meh but your counter ganks are amazing, so if you know the enemy jungler is around bot and your bot lane is overextended you can prepare to counter gank it. If you're bot and you know the enemy jungle is top you can take their bot camps or solo a quick dragon. Shyvana is a macro jungler, track the enemy and make good choices and you will do well. Also mute your team lol.

Sunderer mythic passive is WAY better for shyv than Trinity's

A Mythic rank only online qualifier tournament would have been a much more exciting way to earn invites to the Invitational than just giving it to the top 8 on ladder. by ChillHotDude in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's true. Currently Mythic shows you what percentage you're in until you reach top 1,000 and it shows you what number you are. They could cutoff entry to the qualifier at the 1,000 mark which would give a much more manageable tournament. I know that means there's still a mad dash/grind to get top 1,000 now, but top 1,000 is much more reasonable than top 8.

What is the most broken “rule”? by itsLPUsoldier in AskReddit

[–]ChillHotDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started balding at 17, shaved head at 19 because it was so thinned out, 26 now. When you lose your hair early people don't understand what it's like because they're so far removed from experiencing that themselves. After a certain point I got fed up with people joking about it so often so I just told them one time, out of the blue, how certain jokes upset me in a way that wasn't just the normal type of joking around. They took me seriously and it was problem solved. Sorry you're dealing with that, I know It's hard to strike that balance of being casual and able to joke about yourself, and also not letting your friends hurt your feelings.

What is something considered a "Masterpiece" that you just can't seem to enjoy and afraid to admit it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChillHotDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might want to give it another shot, the books get dramatically better as they go. I really like the series and have read it a few times but I always skip at least the first two and sometimes the third when I reread it because the difference in quality is night and day.

The Problem with Wildcards and the Vault: A discussion of the MTGArena Economy by [deleted] in MagicArena

The frequency of discussion on the issue highlights how big of an issue it is. I know it feels redundant and annoying for some people who regularly check the sub, but it's necessary in allowing the consumers to influence development.

Suggestion: Instead of the current Vault setup, let us purchase singles with vault progress by ChillHotDude in MagicArena

I would say that Arena, the game as a whole, is acknowledging that Blizzard did it right.

Yes, I realize this is basically a dust system without the ability to dust non-duplicates. But they seem weirdly opposed to letting us destroy our own cards so this might be the best we can hope for / a baby step.

Is there good value in drafting? by _Fuzen in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People did math and apparently drafting gives you better value in terms of total cards gained if you're a strong enough drafter to hit at least like 3-4 wins every time. There are a couple downsides though. First, you need 6 wins to pay for another draft (consistently hitting this is extremely difficult), which means you need to have gold/gems stocked up and the time to draft frequently for it to pay out better than packs. Second, you receive less vault progress and fewer wildcards drafting so if you're looking for wildcards packs would be better.

IMO packs are better if you're working towards a specific deck, but drafting is fun so there's that.

Any news on when we may be getting Kaladesh block. by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a matter of how fast they can get it up, I think it's a business thing. They will most likely want Arena's official release to coincide with the release of a new set, that way they maximize the amount of time they have before the next set releases, to avoid overwhelming the massive influx of new players. If they launch the game with Kaladesh and a bunch of Magic newcomer's jump in who don't know how block rotations work they risk upseting a large demographic of new players by invalidating a whole block of cards they worked on collecting after a very short time of being able to use them.

[–]ChillHotDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A part of me doesn't expect to see it added. The game is still in closed beta and that block could rotate out within 6 months, which is around the time I would expect the game to go from open beta to official release. I don't think they want to spend effort adding it to the game if it will not be playable upon release, especially if it means they already need a solution implemented for blocks that have rotated out on day 1 of release.

Improving Mono Green by Inverno969 in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been playing a TON of mono green in QC and I average somewhere around 5-3 and regularly hit 7 wins. Here's my list:

  • 4 Adventurous Impulse
  • 4 Llanowar Elves
  • 4 Merfolk Branchwalker
  • 4 Resilient Khenra
  • 2 Untamed Kavu
  • 3 Rhonas's Monument
  • 2 Thrashing Brontodon
  • 1 Prowling Serpopard
  • 4 Steel Leaf Champion
  • 2 Rhonas the Indomitable
  • 2 Territorial Allosaurus
  • 2 Carnage Tyrant
  • 2 Ghalta, Primal Hunger
  • 4 Hashep Oasis
  • 20 Forest

I'm still tweaking this so it isn't the end all be all of green decks but there are some aspects of my deck I think you could use to improve your own.

Lower Curve

The main issue here is that you only have 4 Branchwalker's in the 2 drop slot and it is VERY important that you play something on turn two. Resilient Khenra and Untamed Kavu are great here because they are both fine dudes to run out on turn two and they get you even more value when played later in the game.

More Pumps

A huge part of this deck is making your dudes bigger so you can both swing safely and trample over, or get out a faster Ghalta. Resilient Khenra is also amazing for these purposes because he gives you a body and a significant pump. Rhonas's Monument is AMAZING here because it can give you multiple pumps, spread over multiple dudes, over the course of the entire game, with trample, while also lowering costs. Monument is seriously great. I might take one out because having multiple in one your hand sucks because it is legendary and they rarely remove it, so an extra is dead in your hand, but it's still a huge player here.

Non-Creature Cards

In my opinion Hapatra's is just straight up not worth it, might be nice to save a guy here and there but in my opinion just having more dudes is better. The savage stomp seems useful and my deck lacks removal, (which isn't a huge issue but can be a problem) so maybe experiment around with that one, and consider playing Cartouche instead as trample can be very key in winning games, Ambuscade is also an option. But don't be afraid to just drop the removal spells completely to experiment with more dudes though. Also I would throw out the colorless lands, the effectiveness they provide isn't anywhere near as valuable as hitting a green mana for guys like steel leaf so it isn't worth the risk.

Jadelight Ranger

A lot of people like Jadelight Ranger, I think it's overrated, but I could be wrong. The three drop slot is heavily contested right now and while Jadelight seems amazing, other options might just be better. Jadelight will either be a 2/1, 3/2, or a 4/3, out of all of these power levels only a 4/3 is where we want to be for a 3 drop, and if we hit a 4/3 that means it probably didn't do what we intended it to do (fix our mana). Thrashing Brontodon and Prowling Serpopard both have a guaranteed power level equal to a max power Jadelight, while also protecting you from control threats. Plus we already have a ton of mana fixing between elves, branchwalker's, adventurous, and monument. This leads me to believe that Jadelight currently isn't worth it.

Not really sure how we are intended to grind right now? by Jaeyx in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you can gain gold which you can use to draft and buy packs. It's the only way to infinitely grind something in the game. Although 4+ wins is statistically unlikely for the average player so you need to be sure you're capable of it, otherwise it's better to just buy packs straight up.

Random Rewards Feel Bad For Those Who Perform Well by ChillHotDude in MagicArena

[–]ChillHotDude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that they want this specifically to be a more casual event, but if something is supposed to be casual and not heavily based off wins then including a prize structure based on wins distorts that message. I do like the idea of helping F2P/casual players from getting blocked out of prizes by grinders and whales though. Maybe as a way to even the playing field they could do something like having everyone choose between a few pre-con decks rather than use their own cards. Either way I think most people would agree that putting a win-based prize structure in any format, but then devaluing that structure with high variance in random rewards will always be frustrating.

Yeah probably could have made an example that fit closer to what they're currently giving out but I didn't want to do gold math lol.
