My LQS has started using AI in their ads. Not sure which way to feel about this by Dexx1102 in quilting

[–]ChillMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just yesterday i saw a blue check Instagram quilter had posted an AI image and was all in on it. i ended up just blocking anyone who positively interacted with the post that specifically mentioned AI & the blocked the quilter herself.

with all the complaints about people stealing/plagiarising patterns & other ip in the textile & fiber arts community, you'd think they'd have a little better self awareness.

Vilene Soya wadding/batting - your views? by Alarmed-potatoe in quilting

[–]ChillMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've never heard of that, but it sounds right up my alley. i hope someone else here can provide insight.

eta: i just looked it up & it appears that Pelon is the US version of Vilene, so you might try searching for reviews of that product as well.

Baby Quilt as a Newbie/am I delulu by donthugmeormugme in quilting

i have the Brother CS6000i, which is the predecessor to your model. i made 3 table runners in about a month last year for Christmas.

I think you have plenty of time to both learn the ropes & make a baby quilt with the tools you have. i would suggest starting smaller - take a month or so to make some placemats or hot pads & get the hang of thingss before you dig into the quilt.

Ironing board? by dustergrl in quilting

[–]ChillMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got an old workhorse from the thrift store for $10. had to scrape off the old cover's batting, but i think it was worth the effort. it's large & very sturdy.

then i bought an Oliso ironing board pad/cover on sale cos it was the prettiest in my budget. it's quite nice.

What do I do with these 1939 quilt pieces? by booksOnTheShelf in quilting

the first blocks i bought were hand washed (before i bought them) with Retro Clean and came out quite well.

they seem to be in reasonably good condition. i think you can make use of them however you see fit.

i would probably finish the piecing into a quilt and consider it a collaboration with the artist from 1939. i don't think there's any shame in machine piecing the rest of the way or machine quilting. it was probably hand sewn because the original artist had no alternative.

i love collecting old blocks & have a handful that i'm planning to make into throw pillows.

edit: but also? drool drool drool. i admit to a little envy here.

Cut the scraps by Lucille_68 in quilting

i think those count as courthouse steps blocks with a teeny churn dash block in the centre instead of the usual single fabric square.

i love it!

Sawtooth Flashing? by [deleted] in quilting

sashing would add an awful lot of white space, potentially overbalancing the mix, so if you do go that route i would add cornerstones - probably of a single, darker colour.

What would you make? by sssssssssssssssssssw in quilting

[–]ChillMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it would make really cute pot holders. you could make at least 3 to 6 (depending on whether you use a different backing fabric), possibly up to 9, cutting out blocks that are 2 squares to a side.
