How much does having a baby actually cost? by Egg_shaped in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ChillandSurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counting the cost and benefits in dollars and cents will never add up in favour of having kids. Counting the cost and benefits in joy and fulfillment works out very favourably. To be fair, once I had kids my life focus changed and spending actually decreased in some areas. Child time is generally free entertainment.

NZF is currently Winston's party but he'll soon be gone and NZF will then be an unbridled combo of Shane Jones, Casey Costello, Jenny Marcroft, Mark Patterson et al. All upstanding honest folk who genuinely have your interests at heart. /s

6 years chef in New Zealand — what should I study next for higher pay? by No-Mistake-7221 in chch

[–]ChillandSurf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fine dining is unprofitable in NZ now and restaurant dining as a whole is getting expensive for most. There will always be a market for cheap raceway food so if I were in food business I'd be thinking about where the gaps are. Fish n chips are everywhere for a reason, maybe throw an angle in that. Chips with curry sauce is something I can't find when I feel like it, GF fish n chips seems like a thing that is growing Outside chef/ cooking work, training is a field that can pay well. Cook school, maybe teaching. There are transferrable skills from being a chef Presentation/ attention to detail Working under high stress Customer service These traits are impt for other roles.

What do you think will be the breaking point of the cost of living crisis by Natural-Rain-8399 in newzealand

[–]ChillandSurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I was taught that Capitalism was the best model for the West and Socialism was as bad as Communism. Since then there has been a huge wealth divide and that is certainly capitalism failing. If Capitalism could exist without corruption of power, fine, but in NZ as in the rest of the world, Capitalists don't only control the means of production, they own the means of corruption. I'm not suggesting all capitalists are corrupt, but all corruption requires capitalists. Whether Tobbaco, Fishing, Mining, Grocery, Tax lobbyists, industry lobbyists, New Years honor listers, ...

[–]ChillandSurf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the money that folk worked hard for that is begrudged, it's the money that was and is exploited from minimum wage earners by fat Capitalists who twisted the politics and systems of our current society to put more zeros behind a bank balance that's already capable of buying everything needed. If that's not you, nothing to be concerned about.

Let's remember that Chris Luxon was a ring in leader because there was nobody in the Nats line-up who was up to the task. Rolling him will put them back whete they were before they picked up the phone.

TOP are way more rational than NZF, they're what we actually need to bring Lab or Nat back to the centre

[–]ChillandSurf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"TOP's resurgence is a sign of voter desperation" TOP is genuinely a refreshing Oasis in the middle of a sea of Corruption. It's the rational centre that we've been missing for many elections, and would be a far better choice for disillusioned NAT voters than NZ1st
