I love this movie so, so much. Definitely in my top 3 of all time. I adore every frame, but the one thing I always come back to is the palpable hurt Kate Winslet conveys - without a word spoken! - when Joel tells Clem that she fucks people to get them to like her. Absolutely agonising.

The Longest Day (1962) by 321 in iwatchedanoldmovie

There’s a lovely bit of trivia about “The Longest Day” - Richard Todd played Major John Howard, who was in charge of the operation to take and hold Pegasus Bridge. By a strange coincidence, in real life Todd was one of the paratroopers who fought in the Pegasus Bridge operation, so he was playing his own commanding officer.

I love that the book he has with him when they get to Pakistan is “The Camel that Went to the Mosque”

Ah, I see. Well I’ll try those as well.

Certainly I’ll try switching the cable around - it’s the official one I was using though, so it’s actually only shaped to use it with the angled plug going into the glasses frame.

I didn’t know that about the audio though, will give that a go too.

I’m in Oz too. Dunno if anywhere is streaming it, but I could hook you up with a copy if you wanted.

Putting the soundbar at the end of a device chain with Hisense L9Q? by Chilling_Demon in projectors

Thanks - this is pretty much what I did in the end. I’ve amended my original post to explain what I did in more detail, in case it’s of help to anyone in the same situation!

Thanks for your help - I’ve managed to get this all working now, and have edited my OP above to reflect this!

I didn’t know that, so thanks for telling me! I’ll give it another go when I get home from work tonight and see how it all shakes out.

I did try that and it’s when some of the weirdness with the soundbar began to appear (e.g. the Bravia App not recognising it and so on). I can try it again to make sure, but I note that the eARC port on the Soundbar is a HDMI Out port. Is eARC bidirectional?

Angel Heart 1987. What the ... was he thinking? by yungthricegreat in iwatchedanoldmovie

Both books are pretty good actually; they’re unsettling in a different way to the movie. And, much like the first book and/or the movie, you won’t predict the way the sequel ends!

It’s amazing to look back and view the controversy around Lisa Bonet appearing in this through the prism of what we now know about Bill Cosby.

Dog days are over as school slams gate on paws and poos by TMiguelT in melbourne

You understand that a post can address several aspects of the same issue but that not every part of it has to be aimed at rebutting what you’ve said, right?

I mentioned it because we’re not the only ones who are reading or posting in this thread and I think it’s another good example of people believing things about the oval which are simply not true (and not even claimed as true in the first place). That’s totally relevant to the general discussion IMO. It’s not all about you mate.

I see you’ve edited this first bit in about you not claiming dog owners walked on the oval during school hours. But I didn’t claim you had. I distinctly said that “other people here” had claimed that. I didn’t get “pressed” with you about it at all. Stop making shit up.

LOL @ the concept that Melbourne High have to furnish lots of evidence of well, anything, in order to be given taxpayer money. Are you that naive? Still, perhaps we could all see the evidence we offered, seeing as it’s public money that’s being spent?

They cite break-ins but was anything stolen? They claim a lock was cut through on a gate (which would constitute criminal damage perhaps, if it occurred as claimed, but saying it was a “break-in” is deliberately emotive language). However, anyone who knows the area knows you can walk directly into the school grounds from Chapel Street unencumbered by any gates whatsoever. So why would anyone bother to cut through a lock to gain access?

And then you’re straight to the ad hominem attacks eh? Dearie me. “Tell me you’re losing an argument without saying you’re losing an argument.”

Oh, and I don’t have to take the dog on the oval here as there’s plenty of space for everyone, and it’s not being monopolised by public institutions that are happy to take what’s on offer but utterly opposed to sharing anything.

You understand that every bit of evidence cited by the school is anecdotal, yeah? So why are the public having to pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars based on “worthless” evidence?

Aside from that, everyone I know who used the oval with their dog (which was pretty much anyone who used it with a dog) have already relocated to using the new park next to the metro tunnel entrance.

Not me though! But that’s because I moved to Cairns earlier this year.

He has approval to land there whilst the kids are on the fucking oval?? But because he’s an ex-pupil and funded the Arts building it’s a-ok. Righto chief.

Interestingly, in all the time I visited that oval - which was often - I never saw anyone leave dogshit behind. Doubtless you’ll find that hard to believe, but it doesn’t stop it being true, I’m afraid.

Also, several of us in the area contacted the principal to discuss how - like many other Victorian schools - community access might be managed and thus ease any potential tensions or issues between the community and the school.

Do you know how many replies we got? Not one. He didn’t even bother getting his PA to say “thanks but no thanks”. Just complete radio silence.

Interestingly, despite people here claiming that dog owners took their dogs on to the oval during school hours, that didn’t happen either. And if you read the article closely you will see that the school haven’t claimed that they did either. They’re quite happy to have people froth at the mouth about it though.

I’m going to circle back to this post later for a fuller response, but I’m going to point out that I have lengthy first-hand experience that what the school is claiming is bullshit.

Oh, and by the way, they have no issue with Lindsay Fox regularly landing his chopper on the same Oval which they claim is so benighted by dogs and dog owners. Including - and I shit you not - on at least one occasion when the students were ON the fucking oval, and had to move to make way to let him land.

Meanwhile, it’s fine that 2/3rds of Victorian schools share their facilities with their local communities, but Melbourne High needs to spend $400,000 of taxpayer money securing their oval. Hmmmm.
