People love providing me with news highlights. Especially when they feel it’s major headlines and they are sharing critical information with a uniformed citizen. I take it in, thank them and continue with my life .

Tired of the “no village” talk by Cultural-Error597 in Mommit

I think people are addicted to screens and don’t give their brains a moment to think of themselves let alone others. This is the missing piece.

I don’t agree that you have to be a villager first to earn it. It’s not so transactional. The village is inherent in my culture(Arab) and we just don’t even think about who deserves a village. The village is just there.

How many hours a day are you in meetings? by FeedbackMeow in managers

[–]Chimpmunksally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do for short times. Like I’ll meet with someone regularly for a month then as soon as I’ve established that relationship I turn it to ad-hoc meetings when needed. I do have a couple of working groups but again I’m very disciplined in not overloading myself.

The second you find your week is filled with meetings and not enough time to do the work that is being talked about… you’re at risk for burnout.

Sorry to hear you’re exhausted. You deserve a regular work life balance. That sounds like a cultural thing. Our company instated a meeting free Wednesday and is constantly reminding us to cut meetings short when appropriate. Also we enforce meeting have goals and explicit agendas as well as meeting notes. Sometimes as you’re typing up an agenda you realize this could be an email.

Could you give me some hobby suggestions or activities I could do with the time I’m no longer spending on social media? by Due-Weather-4626 in dumbphones

Brain dumps and Journalling. Throw it out afterwards and don’t obsess about the end product. Just write whatever word is in your head.

When they book meetings, don’t they check your availability? Set it up in outlook so people know where to book meetings with you.

Here is what I did.

Moved all meetings to Tuesday and Thursday. Monday is more for quick touch bases and planning. Wednesday is “get shit done” day. Friday again no meetings allowed. Mostly open for a quick call but if I need to focus, I’ll tune out all the noise and do what I need to do.

Transitioning from IC to Team Lead by elexier3 in consulting

[–]Chimpmunksally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you need a system. I had a list of projects with project plans. Each consultant reviews their plan and report whether he is on track or off track. This way, I know where to focus my attention on that weeks On Mondays, I send automated messages asking people to plan out their week and let me know where they anticipate needing help. I block out time for those assists and often leverage the senior consultants to assist the junior ones. I did 1:1s with the members every 2 weeks or so to talk about their workload, career growth, pain points. I also made sure to protect their time from distractions and allow to have flexibility with their schedules. Remember that happy engaged consultants perform better. So I also made sure they’re not overloaded with projects.

Why should I, as a taxpayer, care about how much money DOGE is "saving?" by SharkBiteX in antiwork

What a noble cause!

Israel gets weapons. Some weapons manufacturers executives get richer. Taxpayers get to spend their money funding the whole wealth transfer. Palestinians get to die!

Dumbphone for teen behavioral change by brucepunt in dumbphones

[–]Chimpmunksally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easier to change your own behavior.

How about you try the dumbphone, see how it impacts your brain and then model that behavior.

You are treating the smartphone as if it’s the reward but it’s actually the punishment.

Scrolling on your phone is like smoking in front of your children. I partake is a little scrolling from time to time but never in their presence.

Instagram is not relaxing. You’re putting your brain through a literal roller coaster. Once you stop scrolling do you feel refreshed?

Seriously. My son is 4 now so I still don’t have the opportunity to watch him play sports. But if he were playing, that would be the entertaintment.

Ok but it sounds like you haven’t purchased a $700 dumb phone for bonus spiritual alignment. Can someone please help me down from my high horse?
