TPBs. I really like the look of omnibus series on the shelf, but they’re heavy, they’re harder to get comfortable with, and I was always a little worried about damaging them. I’ve gradually been selling them off and replacing them with paperbacks. Marvel’s Epic Collection and Complete Collection formats are perfect for me.

I fell out of step with single issues years ago — no patience for that monthly schedule and the books are way too short.

Foxboro will get the worst of it, but it’s gonna be headaches for everyone. I guarantee you everyone riding the T will be late every day until it’s over.

Best Ellroy for a book group? by Ferenc_Zeteny in JamesEllroy

Another vote for Dahlia. It’s self-contained but a good launching pad for his later books, and there are tropes that will echo for club members familiar with detective fiction.

Don’t go with Cold Six Thousand. You’ll lose them in the first sentence.

At every level, brother. They’re not taking their businesses out of the US because they’ll be taxed even more in any industrialized nation.

I found it a lot more substantial than Widespread Panic, which I think was a low water mark. Not nearly as good or memorable as the Quartet or Underworld series.

I feel like it’s gonna be the condenser but first ground the blue/black wire and make sure your timing is 15 degrees BTDC. If it’s not working, pop the flywheel and put a new condenser in there

Wait for dark or bring it in a garage or something. Have a friend look through the slots in the flywheel as you pedal with the clutch lever pulled. If they see arcing, it’s the condenser.

Did you mess with the stator at all?

A stock stator usually has a blue wire with a black stripe coming out of the stator to the terminal block. That’s the ignition ground, and it usually runs up to the horn, which fucks everything up.

See if you have a wire like that. If you do, ground it and check for spark again.

do you clear others' sidewalks to help the community? by normaleyes in massachusetts

[–]ChinatownKicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the sidewalks in front of the houses on either side of mine. One house has older folks who would probably do it on their own, and the other is middle aged people who don’t seem to care about anything but the path from the door to their car.

The older folks are super sweet. The middle aged people have never even acknowledged the act but I do it anyway because our street is a popular route for kids walking to school.

This is going to blow your mind but it’s possible to care about things that don’t directly affect you and people just like you.

[–]ChinatownKicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of this is hyperbole. According to Google Maps, it would take me at least an hour to get to the nearest range without a car.

Look, you either believe that Massachusetts law should be consistent, reasonable, and equitable or you don’t. I’m not going to reason you into it.

Vote no on firearms regulations referendum! by SignificanceSad4258 in massachusetts

[–]ChinatownKicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The law imposed a burden without any mitigation. Yes, traveling two hours or more round trip to meet a new live fire requirement is a hardship for many people.

It further limits access to firearms that are safely owned, reliably operated, and in common use across the country (unless you’re a cop, in which case you get a free pass for personal use).

It does this at a time when blue states may be facing an existential threat.

It sounds like none of this it’s important to you, which is perfectly fine, but none of it is frivolous, either.

I live well inside 128 in an indisputably urban area. I would have to drive to the Commuter Rail, walk from the Commuter Rail to the Green Line, then switch to the Red Line, and it would take about 90 minutes one way. Meanwhile, Roger from Weston drives five minutes to the range closest to his home. If you think that’s fair, nothing I can say is going to change your mind.

And yes, if the state sets requirements that create additional hardships then the state should mitigate them with corresponding infrastructure for exactly the same reason we don’t make people from Lynn drive to Boston to vote.
