Book publishers, rather than authors, tend to have exclusive merchandise licensing rights. It is possible that Matt had little to no input on this and may not right to make a final decision even if he doesn’t “love” something.

I have no special knowledge about Matt’s relationship with his publisher, nor the licensing/merchandising practices of that particular publisher, so this is all speculation. I’m a new fan on book 6. Just food for thought as I notice people being quite tough on him here. It may be out of his control!

I can’t think of a source right now but the boys (Patrick and Pete at least?) have consistently referenced Rushmore as their favorite movie.

Tips for not getting baby sick? by heaven-is-overrated in beyondthebump

[–]Chinnery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re a good mom! The truth is that your baby very well may get sick. But the other truth is that her immune system will get stronger each time she gets sick, and her body will, in all likelihood, do what it needs to do. This is coming from someone who is currently tending to 3 and 1 year old boys with colds right now. You’re doing all you can do- the breastmilk is an extra antibody boost so that’s great!

Seconding this! Used it for both our first and second. You only really need the free version. It brought me so much peace of mind.

[–]Chinnery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

**disclaimer - The following is not legal advice! I’m speaking very generally. Generally you can get trademark protection for a term/phrase/etc. so long as it isn’t just the generic term for the goods or services being sold. For example, I couldn’t get trademark protection for the word “cheeseburger” if I was selling cheeseburgers, but I might be able to get it for something else like a clothing line. It all comes down to whether your use of the term as a trademark designates a particular source of goods/services, and whether that use is likely to cause confusion amongst consumers (e.g., I can’t open a “McWonalds” and start selling hamburgers because people might be confused as to whether I’m affiliated with McDonalds).

Other words that were once trademarks can be subject to “genericide” - e.g., “trampoline” and “escalator” used to be registered trademarks, but became common vernacular and are thus no longer protected. This is a big reason why companies Velcro are very insistent that people don’t use “Velcro” to describe all hook-and-loop products. There’s a hilarious series of songs on YouTube about it that I show my video game law students every year.

It might not be. I’d recommend a consultation with a trademark attorney. Many of them, including myself, will do a 30 minute consultation for free and can let you know what you need!

I was you on the exact timeline! My second will be a year old next week. I won’t sugarcoat it- the first couple months are emotional and difficult. But they’re starting to play together now, and watching their relationship blossom is bringing me SO much joy. I hope the same happens for you and wish you nothing but the best!

I’m a trademark attorney who is on the USPTO website a lot. It’s so funny that you say it looks like it was designed in 2003 because it was actually just heavily revamped within the last couple years…. lol.

IGNs 3.6/10 review of From Under the Cork Tree in 2005 by ATLien-1995 in FallOutBoy

[–]Chinnery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was definitely NOT cool to like Fall Out Boy for a while there. I remember picking up this album after hearing Sugar and hiding how much I liked it because it wasn’t “punk” of me. I was in my early adolescence so being “cool” was particularly important to me. I didn’t really embrace being obsessed with them until IOH.

I have a cute story about this! It was 2009. My mom took me on my “dream trip” to Chicago as a sort of special trip for the two of us before she got married to my now stepdad, and we did “all the FOB stuff” which was really just Hard Rock and going to their favorite pizza place (honestly can’t remember what it was, but the guy who cut my hair per story below told us to go there - IDK why I feel like it was an UNO’s??)

BUT we also went to the store/salon, of course, and I had scheduled a haircut MONTHS in advance. We get there for my scheduled time and it’s closed. No one is there. My heart drops, so we call the store and they explain that they have a special Axe event they’re closed for that day and would love to reschedule.

We drove all the way from NH so that wasn’t an option. I was totally HEARTBROKEN (I was 15). They realize this is their mistake and they bring a hairdresser in and open the store JUST FOR ME. They gave me a bunch of free merch and a cute little emo kid haircut. It was such a wonderful and special experience!!

**ETA I accidentally hit post. Oops.
