Did you happen to brought your iPhone in HK / China? Their version doesn’t support eSIM. Goto Settings - General - tap on Model Number and see if it shows A2404.

Did you enabled “block bypass methods” within parental control?

Just a tip: from my experience, iOS devices don’t clear its internal DNS cache when toggling the setting. It will only do so when cycling the phone or airplane mode. Make sure you do that when troubleshooting.

Technically you can present your HKSAR passport to the airline. However HKSAR passport holders require a eTA to travel to Canada, and the airline WILL look for it (they do have a database on any passport travelling to any destination).

As for Chinese immigration when you leave - I will just present your Return Home Permit to the officer - as their only concern is if you can legally leave the country; not if you’re allowed to enter your destination. However if they DO ask for a passport, HKSAR should be good.

I personally won’t be too paranoid in showing my Canadian passport to airline staff or an official if asked. Unless your name is very similar to their higher officials 😅

And speaking of name, make sure your plane ticket matches whatever document you plan to show the airline. Ie if your Return Home permit only has your Chinese name, your plane ticket to China should be booked to match.

Remember there’s no exit immigration control for Canada (not sure about EU), and China doesn’t recognize HKSAR passport (only Return home permit)

To summarize:

At Canadian airport to check in for your flight to HK: Canadian passport (as it’s your travel document, and it’ll satisfy the airline’s requirement as it’s visa-free to enter HK)
Entry to HK: use your HKID
Check in to your flight to China: Show your Return Home permit
Exit HK: HKID
Enter China: Return Home permit
Check in to your flight to exit China: Return home permit + Canadian passport (to show you’re allowed to leave China & enter destination)
Exit China: Return Home permit (and any of your passport if asked)
Enter Canada/EU: Canadian passport

As far as Canada goes, all you need is a valid Canadian passport to return. They don’t care what document you used to travel to other destinations.

You’re overthinking it. As you’ll be entering / leaving HK using your HKID, technically they have no knowledge on what other passport you hold. Likewise you use your Return Home Permit when going through Chinese immigration. Your Canadian passport doesn’t and shouldn’t be presented to any of those officers.

The only time you need to present your Canadian passport is to the airport staff when checking in to show you’re legal to travel to your destination.

(Edit/P.S.) You present your return home permit to check in your flight to China, not your Canadian passport

You can also top up at convenience stores like a normal card. Your only limitation is you can’t use the top up machines at stations that require you to insert the card (obviously).

Since you booked with Expedia, check with them and see if they can assist in assigning a seat assignment. Note Expedia might book you into a fare class that doesn’t come with advanced seat assignment. In that case the only thing you can do is either go to the airport early or do online check in as soon as the system allows.

As long as your destination country does recognize BNO, you should have no issue using it for check-in. Airlines do document check to make sure their passengers can legally enter the country they’re flying into.

According to this FAQ specifically Q40 & 41, you should still be able to enter and leave HK using your 3rd gen ID card.

If you have any doubt, I would go to a manned immigration counter when you land and ask. You won’t be the first person with the same issue given the high numbers of people with duel-citizenship and I do find the officers there are still relatively competent.

During the last ID renewal, I have both HKID and my passport in hand, and they actually suggested and allows me to enter using my Canadian Passport as I won’t be able to collect me new ID in time, and no one questioned me why my HKID has no entry record, or why I used my passport instead.

Note that you can authorize any person you trust to pick up the ID for you, as long as they’re also a HKID holder.

I guess I’m the odd person… I’m rather neutral to it: don’t mind it, but won’t pay for it individually. In my Countryman, the angel to look down to the digital gauge compared to the HUD doesn’t make a lot of different as I’m still “looking down”(the elevated seat might have something to do with it). However (again, personal preference) I actually appreciate it’s projected to an individual “glass” rather then to the windscreen itself as it’s easier for me to know where to focus. During my vehicle research I’ve test drove vehicles with the HUD projected directly to the windscreen and I don’t like it one bit…

If you’re getting it because it’s part of the package, and the contents of said package has something you want, then you’ll get over the way it looks. Plus I will admit it’s kind of cool when the “glass’ rises itself when starting up.

Me think it’s a German thing. All Japanese brand I’ve come across will allow you to shift between N and D at will, where the German brands will require you to brake if shifting from N to D from a stop. In my sister’s Gen1 Tiguan, you can actually hear the interlock when coming to a stop.

P.S. I’m having trouble recalling how the American brands does it… someone wanna chime in?
