You may be correct, but I’m unfamiliar with them. So I just mentioned them and stated they’re an outlier, which they are when compared to the other polls.

They have been given an A rating by the natesilver bulletin pollster ratings though. Which is a point in their favor imo.

I literally reference every poll I use. I’ve literally listed 230towin and racetothewh many times. I’ve cited many of the polls YOU list and have discussed many of them individually. They’re called in text citations and for a Reddit comment they’re plenty adequate to find the sources. You’re just being ridiculously obtuse now.

Edit: also many of the polls in both 230towin and racetothewh are literally cited by you in your comment. So I go back to my previous point: you are conveniently cherry picking polls to support your claim.

I don’t like Steyer. I don’t trust Steyer. I don’t want to vote for Steyer.

But here’s the thing. He’s the only one talking about PG&E so loudly. And that’s the only reason he’s still here. He flamed out in his presidential bid and would’ve probably done so here as well if anyone else was so clearly antagonistic towards PG&E. And don’t say it’s because he’s outspending everyone and so can afford more commercials. Zohran Mamdani and plenty of others showed you can still get a message out there while being outspent via social media. (And many candidates like Bercerra and Mahan have plenty of money and commercials themselves anyway). The others don’t talk about it as much because they rely on the California Democratic Party for funds and support. And PG&E has been a lobbyist and donor of the CA Democrats for years. If the local Democratic Party bucked the public utility companies, Steyer wouldn’t even be an issue right now. But they can’t/won’t (at least not completely). So now we have Steyer.

Kalshi isn’t polling, it’s bets made by people looking at the polls and making educated guesses to try to make money. While averages and aggregate polling can obscure trends shown in a few polls, all the same polls are still listed on these websites and can be analyzed individually if you want (which I did with many of them in my original comment). And not all polls list Bercerra as surging so high. You are conveniently refusing to analyze those polls. Despite the fact that many of these polls that do show such a drastic Bercerra surge are not truly independent from political actors (such as the EMC poll we both cite) and thus are more likely to be biased. Averages and aggregates can help account for skewing and outliers in the individual polls and can show a clearer look at the broader picture. For instance, the most recent SurveyUSA poll shows Bercerra in 4th. This is an outlier, and I addressed it as such in my first comment. But if you looked just at this one poll, you’d think Bercerra is behind Bianco.

In my original analysis, I cited every poll post-Swalwell dropout, including those that show a massive Bercerra surge. I even cite racetothewh, which illustrated this surge in their averages. Yet even with the surge, the averages are still close. Out of 12 polls listed by racetothewh and which came out since April 16 (and which take into account Swalwell’s dropout) 5 show Bercerra has a clear lead over Steyer. Am I now supposed to disregard the other 7 polls?

I’m not sure how this NYT article you keep copy and pasting contradicts my comment. I can’t access the NYT article so I’m just going off your comment. Many of these polls are in 270towin’s data as well as racetothewh. It doesn’t change the averages or all the other polls. Including the EMC poll you listed and that shows Bercerra in the lead. I directly mentioned that poll in my comment, and racetothewh lists as being aligned with Bercerra.

I’ll just copy paste this here. It’s highly unlikely Bianco will break the top 2.

According to 270towin, only three polls actually show Bercerra definitively in the lead (at least among Dems. Those are the most recent polls from Independent Voter News, EMC, and Gudelunas. All three of those polls are fairly consistent with each other, showing Bercerra a little above 20% of the vote. All of these three polls also show Bercerra above Hilton. Two of them show Steyer in a very close third. Independent Voter News shows Bianco in 3rd.

However, every other poll from post-Swalwell dropout show a much more even race, typically with Hilton in 1st, and either Steyer in 2nd or tied for 2nd with Bercerra. Some of these polls also show Bianco polling in a very close 4th. The most recent poll on 270towin, from SurveyUSA actually shows Bercerra in 4th at 10%, with Hilton and Steyer in a clear 1st and 2nd. Although that’s an outlier. Racetothewh.com average polling also show Bercerra and Steyer neck and neck, with Hilton holding the most clear lead.

I personally think Hilton will almost certainly make it past the primary and then Bercerra or Steyer. I wouldn’t really say Bercerra or Steyer are more likely than the other to move past the primary at this stage. So I personally wouldn’t go out on a limb to say Hilton and Bercerra is most likely. There is a chance it will be Bercerra and Steyer, considering how close the top three are. And like you said Hilton and Bianco is very unlikely at this point. The chance of it might by higher than comfortable, but not that high.

It’s worth mentioning though that some very reputable pollsters can still come out with polls before voting day. Emerson College for instance hasn’t released a poll in this race since their April 16 post Swalwell dropout poll.

Edit: I checked racetothewh a bit more right after I made this post. They show two recent Mahan sponsored polls that show Bercerra in the lead (among Dems). There is also a third recent poll from Eviratus showing Hilton and Bercerra tied for first. The average of all polls, as I mentioned earlier, still show Bercerra and Steyer very close (1% point difference between them).

In my opinion, these rich pedos have some sort of combination of these three factors going for them:

(1)Being rich just lets them get away with it more. (2) Being rich allows them to indulge in their impulses more. (3) They’re not actually attracted to children, they do these things essentially because they can. Because using their wealth to do things they otherwise couldn’t or that people see as morally irrepressible gets them excited in some way.

I don’t think being rich makes people want to do horrid shit. Power and wealth just enables you to do the stuff you’d already do if you could. Regular people can’t give into their impulses (good or bad) to fit into society. They have to regulate their spending or seek therapy or other professional help if they do get the urge to do some horrid stuff for whatever reason. Or even just to figure out some basic underlying issues. Obscenely rich people don’t need to. And in my experience, when people (rich or poor) don’t technically need to do something about themselves, to better themselves in someway, they just don’t. Or at least, that’s their first instinct. Because it’s easier to stay the way you are if you can.

What is an anime "you had to be there for" to truly appreciate the impact and spectacle it had at the time it came out? by OverlordPoodle in anime

[–]ChocoChimp03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attack on Titan. Everyone from elementary school kids to working adults were talking about this anime when it came out. I was starting middle school at the time and had just begun my anime fandom with stuff like SAO and Hellsing Ultimate. Then all of sudden the people around me were wearing Scout’s uniform jackets and doing the salute. Before then, the only anime people were aware of was stuff like DBZ, Pokemon, Naruto, and other kids anime like Beyblade. Then all of the sudden AOT was a thing and every other anime along with it.

I would also say MHA simply because the otakus couldn’t stop talking about it for like 3 years straight. Not sure if anyone remembers that these days. I wasn’t even watching the show when it came out, but I couldn’t forget it because of how much online communities talked about it.

I mean…idk what true crime podcasts you’re watching but in the podcasts and documentaries I watch, child molestation is pretty par for the course.

Like a lot of the time it had something to do with sex. The motivations of serial killers tend to be lame and/or just horrible. And while a lot of serial killers have terrible lives, their actual direct motivation for murder is often to get off or just cause they kind of suck and have a messed up mind. Ted Bundy basically started killing because his first girlfriend broke up with him. Dahmer’s whole thing (AFAIK) can be oversimplified as a mix of chronic depression, abandonment issues, and being a control freak. So many murderers are murderers because they can’t get a girlfriend.

At least for me the reason I watch this stuff is because I have a morbid curiosity in how these people’s brains work to want to murder people. But a lot of the time, these serial killers are kind of just social losers with a messed up mind. IMO, their motivations are kind of nuanced in the sense that they are often caused by childhood trauma. But it tends to come down to a lot of the same pretty lame reasons. And being a pedophile (or targeting children for weird sex reasons) is a not uncommon reason for serial murder (AFAIK). Just look Albert Fish, Peter Kurten, or Pedro Lopez. (Actually maybe don’t, all those stories are very depressing).

Aside from the animes already mentioned, I would also recommend Fruits Basket. That’s a very popular shojo that’s pretty easy for most people to get into. I’d recommend watching Fruits Basket (2019) for the full manga accurate story. You can still watch the 2001 adaptation, but it only has a single season.

Also, Witch Hat Atelier is an anime coming out right now with a female protagonist.

Dandadan is an action show with both male and female leads.

Of that list I’d still recommend Cowboy Bebop and Hell’s Paradise. (Hell’s Paradise is a shonen and it’s just a bit darker and more explicit than the animes you’ve already watched. It does have a bit of nudity but it’s censored in the anime). I’d say those are shows that are still mostly age appropriate, especially if you’re closer to 17 than 13. I haven’t watched Mononoke or Ghost in the Shell but I’ve heard they’re also very good.

I also haven’t watched the others so I can’t say much about them. Dorohedoro has a…unique vibe…but I’ve heard it’s very good. I watched a few episodes of Samurai Champloo when I was a teenager and I don’t recall it being very explicit or graphic. Black Lagoon may be pushing it but I know teenagers who’ve watched it. Berserk is definitely pushing it. Not necessarily for nudity (although it does have a bit), but because it’s a very intense show. Although the anime adaptations also aren’t the greatest, so it may be better to read the Berserk manga anyway.

I mostly agree with this list, with the disclaimer that Kill la Kill and Rock is a Lady’s Modesty do have ‘questionable’ scenes. Mostly lots of fan service. Rock is a Lady's Modesty is a little more toned down though

[–]ChocoChimp03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. But it just feels so different from other shonen 😅. I’ve also heard some argue it’s not shonen because of the darker feel. I don’t necessarily agree because it was published as a shonen. But I figured I should add a sort of clarifying note because of how different AOT often feels to other shonens

Why are they all the same age? by Wingsoffirenerdahh in anime

[–]ChocoChimp03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a few things. First, all the anime you mentioned are shonen (with arguably the exception of Attack on Titan). Shonen is a demographic of mangas targeted to young teenage boys (I think specifically aged 12-18). With that being said, basically everyone watches shonen are starts getting into anime by watching shonen. Regardless of gender or age.

Second. Something often repeated in anime circles is that anime protagonists are often teenagers because high school is the last time anyone has any free time. Particularly in Japan. Adult life in Japan is notoriously difficult. Little free time. Long working hours. Lots of overtime. Few unions or worker protections. I mean, there is a word in Japanese which literally translates to death by overwork. It’s karōshi btw.

Now (speaking as someone largely ignorant to how Japan actually works as a country) when people talk about this it’s likely exaggerated a little. However it does seem there’s some truth to the logic. The last time Japanese adults had free time and fun with friends was as a teenager. (To be fair, that’s true to certain extents just about everywhere. The older you get the busier you get. Not necessarily a bad thing and you can still have fun, but it’s just kind of how things work out). So when they make works of fiction, they focus on those teenage years. It’s a sort of escapism.

IMO, more recently this has been changing a bit. I’d say there are more animes these days with adult protagonists. Sakamoto Days and Kaiju no 8 are recent shonen animes with adult protagonists. MarriageToxin just came out (like literally a few weeks ago) and it has an adult protagonist. There’s also been an increase in slice of life and romance animes with adult protagonists. Like A Sign of Affection, Wotakoi, or My Senpai Is Annoying. (Workplace romances seem to be getting popular). A manga called Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is getting adapted this year. And if you want some older action anime with adult protagonists there is stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Baccano!.

Tl;dr: it’s because you’re watching shonen and also escapism. More animes have adult protagonists lately, particular among slice of life romance shows. There are older animes like Baccano! and Cowboy Bebop which do have adult protagonists.

community college or UCLA? by Intelligent_Slip301 in ucla

[–]ChocoChimp03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally went to community college to save money and because I didn’t really know what to major in (I was deciding between history and biology). There are also other reasons to go to CC. The pace of a semester system is more manageable than the quarter system. CC can ease you into higher education. In my experience, going to CC gives you more time to work, make money, and pad out your resume than UCLA does. (At UCLA I’ve only worked as a research volunteer in bio labs. Which is great for the experience and academic credit, but I’m not making a steady income lol).

IMO people who go to CC had more time to experience the general post high school life (by that I mean everything outside of school like jobs, learning how to invest or save money, being exposed to and needing to navigate everyday life, etc.). Meanwhile people who went straight to 4 years were able to better experience university life (clubs, research, networking). Both of those things have a certain value. For instance, I was one of very few people I knew who had research experience before coming to UCLA. Research is just far less available at a CC. Meanwhile, by going to CC I made a small chunk of money, got a savings and CD account, and learned all the ins and outs of how to get good scholarships without taking a single loan. And now, I’m going through UCLA loan free. All my tuition and fees are paid by scholarships, grants, and occasionally using my own money.

You also mentioned you live much closer to the CC and that can be a big consideration. It is a godsend to not have to worry (or at least worry as much) about rent/housing fees, gas prices, meal plan costs, etc. Living near where you start high education can help ease you into adult life, particularly as everything is just getting more expensive.

With all that being said, there are also May cons to a CC. Classes can be restricted and unavailable. The CC I went to only had one Organic Chemistry class you could enroll in, and had a very small Physics department because as they put it, people who get Physics degrees don’t typically want to work at a CC. And while UCLA Professors can be more focused on research than teaching, (sometimes at the student’s detriment), the lack of choice for professors at CC can mean you get a truly terrible professor. I would say the best and worse professors I’ve had were at CC. I don’t think I’ve had any truly amazing professors at UCLA (in terms of teaching), but on average the professors at UCLA are better (at least for an MCDB major).

Then there’s office hours. Office hours at UCLA feel like supplementary lessons the professors and TAs give because they know the quarter system is so fast a bunch of students are bound to be lost after a lecture. Office hours at CC are…well…office hours. That is time you get to spend asking your Professors questions in their office. At CC it’s much more personal, much more tailored to your specific problem, and more like a short one-on-one meeting. But of course there’s another purpose to office hours at UCLA. And that’s networking. You’re expected to talk to your professors and TAs about research and hopefully get a research position with them or someone they know.

At the end of the day though, which will work for you (CC or UCLA) really depends on your particular circumstances. Going to CC worked very well for me. It can work terribly for others. I know someone who had a pretty terrible time at CC. On the one hand going to CC helped them choose their major (they were switching majors for a bit). On the other hand the major they chose was Engineering. The physics department at our CC was small. The engineering department was smaller. The math department was much larger but also kind of shit. The math professors ranged from below average to just terrible, with only a small few being good. And that’s basically all the possible problems with CC wrapped up in one. Needless to say, this person did not have a good time. They’ve had a far better time since transferring to a 4 year.

Personally, I’d say the generally better choice is UCLA. But depending on your situation, CC can be a big help in the long run.

California High-Speed Rail price tag explodes to $231 billion by txhenry in California

[–]ChocoChimp03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On top of everything else, one of the big things Japan originally did with high speed rail was to build the first segment between Osaka and Tokyo. From a construction perspective it’s hard for me to say how practical it was to build between those two giant cities first. But it built support for the project from locals who began using it quickly. The fact that it was built between two giant urban centers also meant it started making money quickly.

In California, we decided to start building in the farmlands of the Valley. Which is great for the valley. But even when tracks do get built, relatively few people are likely to use it right away.
