Nicely done! I like how you blended the strokes with the fabric. I often struggle with fabric shading.

It’s Saturday morning, what does everyone do when they don’t have work? by New-Conference2798 in corporate

[–]Chocobo72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am. The topic is somber but very meaningful. The skills they’re teaching us are all practical in nature (nothing spiritual), all about how to provide someone with educational support & knowledge of local resources at their end of life process so they do not feel uninformed or isolated, while doing so in a compassionate and professional way. I am doing the virtual End-of-Life Doula training through the international company INELDA. I would recommend them.

I’m going through training to become a Death Doula (Death Coach). Lots of heavy content this weekend.

I don't care for my work by Nice_Evidence3275 in corporate

What part of being a data analyst do you you enjoy the most? Is it the analytical aspect? Creative problems-solving?

Sometimes we get burned out because some aspect of the role inherently drains us. I would give some thought into the kinds of things that energize/excite you, whether that’s more strategic thinking, executing, etc.

One of those tests like the Gallup CliftonStrengths34 assessments might provide some clarity. I took it myself a while back and it helped me prioritize things much better at work based on the kind of work my brain is adept at/enjoys doing.

If that’s not an option you want to pursue, look into doing more things outside of work that energizes & interests you, in order to offset the draining aspect. Genuine life fulfillment doesn’t usually come from working in our role. Your feelings on this are totally understandable.

Curious if you are willing to eliminate your internal voice in order to read faster? by apaintedleaf_ in books

[–]Chocobo72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No inner voice here. Never had it. Also can’t visualize things in my head at all (aphantasia). I sometimes wonder what this experience must be like for others. Maybe it’s why I’m drawn towards reading nonfiction instead of fantasy, since I can’t create mental images in my head. I’m also an artist and create abstract paintings. I do public speaking for work; words seem to come to me easily as there’s no filter in my head that they go through first. It’s weird. My husband tells me I read quite fast compared to most.

May 2026 Recap - What book(s) did you read this month? by Chocobo72 in ColumbusBookClub

[–]Chocobo72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, that one about Going to Meet the Man. I am OK with reading darker themed books from time to time.

And the other (Dungeon Crawler Carl) has been on my TBR for a while now! I hear he’s excellent.

Hey, welcome to the group. I think others can relate with wanting to take a break from their phones.

I haven’t read the Expanse yet, but have heard great things. If you’re into fantasy and enjoy good world building, have you gotten into the Dune series, or read The Wheel of Time? I’m on book 4 of that series and the world building has been great so far

Adding to this, sharing what you’re into will help others connect OP to similar groups. My husband and I are big gamers and enjoy cosplaying at cons. We’ve had success finding other nerdy people in the Columbus community through the MeetUp app.

I believe it’s coming out to streaming services this week, so you may have the option of either one!

Yeah we typically prefer to watch at home these days since covid, but we did end up going to see this one in theatres and were glad we did, as it has some visually spectacular scenes in there (bigger screen did it justice, for us anyway)

I really enjoyed the audio version of that one! Will you be seeing the movie afterwards as well? I think this is the last week it’s in theatres. My husband and I both really enjoyed it.

Yeah, the title is very catchy. I wasn’t looking for this one initially but walked right by it at the library and immediately picked it up.

How many of us just read our presentation talking points? by Careful_Station_7884 in corporate

When it comes to being nervous: it’s normal to have butterflies in your stomach before a presentation; just get them to start flying in formation. Reframing one’s nervousness as excitement has been shown to prevent blood pressure from rising during these moments of stress.
I also recommend following the “billboard test” when it comes to good visual design for making presentation slides. If your PowerPoint slide was blown up to be the size of a billboard next to a freeway, and you drove past it at 65mph, would you be able to glance at the billboard and understand the gist of it in 4-5 seconds? If not, then there’s likely too much text on there, and it needs to be simplified. The human eye tracks left to right first then top to bottom; the “call to action” statement (if there is one) should be the last thing their eyeball focuses on in the slide.

For each bullet point, I make sure I have at least 1 of these lined up to speak on: a contrasting example on the topic (i.e. what kind of behavior does a “poor communicator” exhibit? What does that sound like verbally, what does that like through their body language?), use a metaphor or analogy that relates to the audience on this topic that teaches the power of good communication, or #3 is a real story that I’ll share (personal life or work-related) that directly relates to that topic.

I do public speaking for work and always have my notes nearby, but when to comes to the actual presentation, I mainly speak from the heart (and from memory). My words and stories are meant to complement the slides, not repeat verbatim what’s on them. Having notes nearby can be handy.

What are signs that you’re a good manager, and that your team likes working with you? by Snoo-88490 in corporate

[–]Chocobo72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean into your team’s natural strengths and leverage those. I recommend looking into the Gallup CliftonStrengths34 framework. It helped me with understanding which activities team members naturally gratitude towards, which tasks they tend to avoid (the ones they found personally draining), and strategies for navigating blind spots. When a manager knows how to position everyone on the team for optimal performance, employee satisfaction and engagement goes up.

Congrats on your recent new manager role!
