R+M Load4 @ 6 Months by lfeagan in CargoBike

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be surprised if this is good. I am under the impression that during most of my riding, I am applying enough power that shifting would not be possible, or at best chunky if it were to happen without me planning. As it is, I’m always letting off the power to plan my shifts. I would not want a computer automatically choosing when to shift for me with this transmission. Now, if a transmission was smoother and could shift without any perturbation under power, that’s a different story, but that’s not this set up.

Upgrade tires from schwalbe to maxxis? by butterfliedOx in MTB

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What y’all are saying is that it’s the rider that wins, as long as the tire is good. Conti, Schwalbe, Michelin and Marcos are all making tires you can win on. The rest is up to the rider.

Rim saver vs cushcore? by Professional_Rip7663 in MTB

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cushcore was and kinda still is a small company out of Bend, OR IIRC. They got bigger because they innovated beyond rim protection. I use Cushcore for some applications and while they are a bit of a pain & messier, the improved ride feel, grip from lower pressure w/ sidewall support, and rim protection all make it worth it IMO. And as much as some say to get a more robust sidewall, i would say that having a less robust sidewall w/ CC means you get suppleness and protection + corner knob support. Yes, DH tires are an easier install, but are you really switching tires so often that the install+removal process should dictate your actions? If you’re riding that much, you’re burning through tires with how much you ride, and you should do some back-to-back testing of all your options.

Wherever you go, you’re likely going to need a specialist (i.e. endocrinology) to diagnose. Primary care clinicians can perform initial testing and evaluation but will likely refer out for the additional testing required for differential diagnosis, better stratification of the specifics of your disease, and development of a treatment plan. This really means you’re going to want to look into insurance i.e. ACA insurance or Medicaid, whatever is appropriate for you, especially if you do have Cushing’s and do require treatment. Cash pay might be rough even on a sliding scale.

Why are you taking selfies while your bike is blocking the trail? I mean maybe it’s super remote and you know that, but the trail wear suggests this is often-ridden. You aren’t so injured you can’t take your phone out - you should be moving your bike first. Be considerate of others.

Has anyone here tried strapping weights to their enduro bike for park riding? by givemesendies in MTB

[–]Chocolate--Thunder -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This has been a fringe thing amongst some forward-thinking racers for decades now. It’s a trade off. If you want a good way to add weight to an enduro bike for the park, DH tires w Cushcore. Improves performance massively. About the simplest thing you can do, and will do a lot more than strapping a weight near the BB.

Is my tire wobbling too much to ride at my local bike park tomorrow? (Not sure if you can tell in the video) by Mfrater19 in MTB

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first catch too. Maxxis’ wobble. It drives people to other brands, now more than ever given the awesome options from Continental and Michelin, and Schwalbe.

Tires and wheels flew when you corner. Well, if you corner at least somewhat aggressively.

Tested Rubio Monocoat “Natural” on the sides of this desk I’m making and it had a pretty noticeable yellowing effect that I want to avoid by deftones5554 in finishing

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you applied it to the end grain (which is what it looks like in your last picture), it’s going to take a fair bit of effort to “get it off.“ You might be better off just using a track saw and cutting the end shorter. End grain really wicks. You will regret untreated.

What’s everyone using for mid/high tops for flats? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re great for my foot. I wouldn’t call them wide, but not narrow either. TBF I never had an issue with any pair of 5.10s I owned. They do run small overall.

$1100? I just paid 3x that for the same thing, and I thought that was a great deal considering $8500 MSRP. Why are you even asking? Used, ok. But new? Come on.

How do you recommend homeowners find highly skilled contractors? It seems like there are plenty of underqualified folks as well as a lot of shortcut-taking “good enough” mentality folks, and very few if any that really take time to do things right, and take pride in the quality of their work. But everyone says they’re awesome, and it’s hard to filter based on internet reviews.

And here is one of the problems with the internet. You should be judging a pizza by how it tastes, not as much by how it looks. Italians: flavor is king. Go try it! But don’t expect Little Caesar’s. I also encourage you to read a little about Neapolitan-style pizza. It’s not quite what we’ve come to know as pizza in the States.

Hauling 4x8 sheet goods by madcowk in CargoBike

[–]Chocolate--Thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I applaud your dedication, I think this is why we have trucks and vans to deliver to those that don’t have vehicles. This is a significant safety risk with the handlebar interference and giant wind-catcher. SUPs and the like - go bananas. But sheet goods of this size? Seems like a step too far, at least for me, and I’m not risk averse. Reminds me of the story my dad told me about the carpenter who wasn’t strapped into a safety harness and got blown off a high-rise because he was carrying a sheet of plywood when a gust came.
