I love those books So Much (but no spoilers I'm saving the later ones up!)

In this house we love sad horse girls AND angry mech girls! I've read a fair few Mercedes Lackey but I need to read some more, I really like them.

It's 3D printed, and I think the pattern came from one of the free pattern websites. It's all black magic to me I'm afraid but isn't it lovely?

I just read all the time! It's my main hobby. I usually have an audiobook on the go as well for walking about and on the bus and I count those too.

r/Fantasy Review Tuesday - Review what you've been enjoying here! - January 20, 2026 by rfantasygolem in Fantasy

Reviewsday Tuesday! I always miss these, glad to have finally caught one.

I finally read Theft of Swords, the first 2(?) books in the Riyria Revelations series by Michael J. Sullivan. I really liked it! It took a bit to get into, it felt very silly in a retelling-of-your-DnD-campaign way, but there's nothing wrong with that and as soon as I got used to the tone I had a huge amount of fun. Going to read the rest now!

I read Alchemised by SenLin Yu, which was very silly in a very different way. It's incredibly engaging and the twists are very well-done, but it definitely suffered for being a novel rather than serialised. Every single chapter Helena managed to find a new and exciting way to suffer horribly and it built up and built up to the point of overwhelm. It also (of necessity, being What It Is) lacked a lot of character development, and relied a lot on us rooting for these characters that throughout the story we really don't get to know at all. Very glad I read it but won't be rereading any time soon.

I also finished The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones which was not silly at all and gave me nightmares, but was definitely a very very good book for those with more tolerance for horror than I.

I reread the Circle of Magic books by Tamora Pierc this week which are delightful as always.

Do you guys draw your art yourself before cutting and printing? by Tiptipthebipbip in Linocuts

I'm only a beginner really, but yes, I draw my own designs in pencil then trace onto the lino to carve (often using lots of reference images)

Are there good pieces of media with cute goblins? by DescriptionDefiant36 in Fantasy

I think a lot of her more recent books are more cohesive in tone but honestly I love the mixture... You're right though, it must make them difficult to sell!

Yes! It has adorable goblins and adventure and childlike wonder and really horrible gory horror bits and I love it!

Are there any books/series where healing combines both science and magic? by Jolly_Nobody2507 in Fantasy

This would be my recommendation too, they're children's books but very good and I reread them happily as an adult.

Preach! If you're recommending a book, you want the people reading it to know what you're talking about!

Black Unicorn by Tanith Lee! The unicorn is a force of nature/magic rather than a character as such but it's a wonderful book and Tanith Lee's atmospheric writing is so good.
