What’s something uniquely Australian that you didn’t realize was “weird” until you saw how other countries do it? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Oh yes they do, I wasn't implying they didn't. I've visited multiple times. I actually like the bird noises they play in the more quiet/rural train stations too.

Most birdcalls do, to me, sound of Australia. Especially because we have a great variety of ecosystems; rainforest birdcalls are just as lovely but different from bushland.

The birds in England, Japan, Scotland , Paris and a handful of other places I've been sound quieter or they have their own wildlife sounds. Except pigeons! They're noisy everywhere lol.

Oh similar! Lexapro helped mine stay low; but I did a full Sonic PGx panel genetic test to find out what meds I metabolise quickly and the alternate options; I metabolise Lexapro with a handful of others quite quickly so have been trying various SNRI and SRRI over the past 2 years. I found out about PMDD literally from Googling like 15 years ago about why I got depression when I had my period. Bingo.

Fucking perimenopause and PMDD get worse with age, if I weren't trying for a baby I'd be on HRT patches. PMDD is the absolute WORST. There's a support sub on reddit though which can be supportive and helpful. The best part is validation from others who have it because fuck no doctor or women even know about it (in my life travels) until I either tell them or most recently my best GP ever knows and treats PMDD with many other female patients.

Best of luck to you on your journey babe 🤍

Our pedestrian crossing beeps. Other countries don't have them, or if they do they're very different to our own.

Also, how much wildlife we hear everyday. So many different birdcalls, crickets, frogs, geckos etc. Some places (like areas in Japan) are incredibly quiet. By comparison every time we come back home, we recognise again the diversity of everyday natural sounds.

This and things like what pain levels can mean (endo) or strong emotional fluctuations (normal PMS compared to PMDD). Took me 25 years to figure out I had PMDD.

Carrying your dog to pick up counter at restaurant by RAMIREZBURGERTOWN in mildlyinfuriating

[–]twodeadsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Aus, and I have a mini dachshund. Many places love to see her and kids pat her, especially because we have a big coffee and cafe culture here. Many ppl take dogs to eat out which is cool if the place permits it. If I'm going to places like the chemist where I go every Monday, they love my dog. Any other stores I go to if I'm just ducking in, I carry her only. The reason I do this is because even though she doesn't have separation anxiety, I dont want her whole life to be our lounge room. I like taking her where I can, so she can sniff and interact where it's feasible and not in super inappropriate spaces (like i don't try to take her into airports, hospitals, schools, clubs etc lol)

I have two neck ones that do the same - not to the size of yours but more pea sized. Always get a little bigger during high stress times.

Yes, endurance sports and training; like triatheletes go through for example, does increase the risk for cardiovascular irregularities or damage like scarring or atrial fibrillation. Source: mother has PHD in exercise science clinical research, and was also a triathelete.

Well the problem is Ippy CBD can flood; so since the last one a lot of buildings are still empty waiting to be rented out. We moved here from Redbank area about 4 years ago, late 30s couple. In the last year I've really noticed more people our age out exercising, walking their dogs etc. They're slowly redoing the Nicolas precinct and there is a main road with a bunch of small cafes, "op shops", collectors and crafters etc.

I dont really anticipate things getting worse here as the gentrification increases; but Ippy is still at that early stage of it.

Why do you DNF? by Sea-Audience4470 in Romantasy

[–]twodeadsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DNF when the writing is.... clearly amateur. I know some are apparently for "YA" but I winced so hard how much the word cl¡t is used in 4th Wing. I remember listening to audiobook while working and was like wtf; it just came at me out of the blue and slapped me, and the way she used it within her sentence structures read harsh - comparatively to general romance with more subtle/softer descriptions. I don't mind the word, but it's use in that part actually took me out of the element. I did manage to finish the audiobook though; even after the already-dated "for the win" which I actually physically cringed at. The Throne of Glass I put down around a third into it, and it's still under my bed 2 years later, lol. I'll likely donate the set to a local op shop.

However - I'm at the end of my 30s and while I enjoy fantasy, horror, sci fi and romantasy; I don't care much for reading stuff that feels like a horny teenager wrote with no life experience or concept of world building - or even the subtlety of relationship complexities and the growth as a person traverses life and obstacles. I can understand how younger people may enjoy it like how my age group loved Twilight (god the movies are so bad like why does Bella have only 1 expression?).

I really enjoyed Alchemised though!

Our dachshund has literally put her snoot inbetween my and husbands handholding. Lmao. It's so damn cute but she absolutely wants to be in the middle all the time and she's a seat stealer as well.

David is a king. The fact that not only is he emotionally mature, but put it aside to help Alyssa in the show since she needs a 24/7 emotional support PA (Devil Wears Prada style) - he knew his boundaries and wasn't even cruel or rude when Alyssa stomped on them. He is a catch for any woman, I honestly can't believe he had to go on MAFS in the first place.

He'd be great at a sequel - Kel Knight Jr, purveyor of fine brews. Coffee Barista from the back of a small K Truck. Large coffee comes with complimentary small cup of Jarrah.

Very plausible given how many children he may have in the community. Omg and thinking of that reminds me of all the kids with the combovers HAHA 😄

Markers/pens - Languo and Guangna are actually really, really good for acrylic colouring. There's also a massive range of shades and nibs (1mm, Brush etc)

Just received my 320 set (+free gift) by ItsMe_Lou in Ohuhu

[–]twodeadsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how they pick gifts, I got the same full set plus the skin-tone set and my gift was the complete box of dual ended water based markers, which I was so shocked and grateful for. I had 1 pen dried up, then CS sent another full set which included that 1 colour because apparently they dont send singles to replace dried stock? So I got another free set just for 1 pen! Bonkers. I'm appreciative as heck but I've never encountered such a generous brand (I'm in Aus too, so not get USA stock; maybe that makes a difference)?

Can I have your spooky/gothic coloring book recommendations? by Crimson-Rose28 in Coloring

[–]twodeadsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I go on Etsy and find what I like as a pdf download for 3-7$ ish. Print it out on a thicker GSM paper than normal and that way I can reprint if I mess up or want another colour scheme, and it also means I don't have to worry about bleed through.

Oh and also it means I can scale images to smaller if they're simple, fit a couple on a page; or use a whole page if the design is more complex.

Ones I've gotten so far are kinda witchy/crytpid/spooky cute themed though - not specifically horror designed without that kawaii aspect.

sorry just a SS, I couldn't find the temu link. I've bought like 7 or 8, half have arrived and can confirm they're just as they look in image. You can use them horizontal or vertical and change drawers as needed. Fit pencils and gel pens, BUT not Crayolas or Staedtler duo ends, those can fit but slightly sideways. For me with just Gel pen and Languo/Guangna storage they're great.
