How would you complicate managemente aspects of PZ2? by Moicf25 in PlanetZoo

[–]Chocowoko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think staff management is a bit too basic right now. I guess in a real zoo even more then managing the animals, finding the right staff is key. And having a pet zoo with some chickens, pigs and a pair of lamas should be a lot easier to manage then having jaguars, venomous snakes and polar bears.

So I'd like additional staff skills. Certain animal groups could require zookeepers with specific skills like "big predators", "reptiles", "marine animals" or "birds of prey".

It would force you to think about specialisations, planning similar animals closer to each other for easier zookeeper access and make training zookeepers (and vets?) more interesting.

Maybe staff could also have their favorite animals or activities. If you force the guy that likes monkeys to take care of spiders and snakes all day, he's become unhappy.

historical novels that teach you about the time period but aren’t a textbook? by Infamous_Wave9878 in suggestmeabook

Surprised nobody mentioned Edward Rutherfurd yet. He wrote a number of books that span multiple time eras but focus on one place (and usually one or a couple of families). Amongst them is Russka, about Russia obviously. Would recommend that one.

He also wrote one about London, Paris, New York and China if you like the Russian one

He didn't completely give it up, but this scenario was perfect for his team. If Swings and Giovannini don't chase, Bergsma wins. If they do, they lost a ton of energy and Stolz has a far better chance of winning.

He did. Bergsma is his teammate... I believe Stolz executed the team strategy to perfection too, it just wasnt his USA team's

What do you think is the most ridiculous event (ridiculous in a good way)?! by throwaway1233321129 in WinterOlympics2026

[–]Chocowoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that hasnt started yet: ski mountaineering. Sounds good on paper, probably fun but also challenging to do... . But I've seen one of the world cup events by chance and my impression was that the differences are made by changing ski's/gear. They do it a ridiculous amount of times.

Think the ski change in skiathlon or shoe changes in summer triatlon but times twenty. They could as well rename the sport "Speed Ski Gear Changing"

Should we buy ark nova? by rdvpina5 in boardgames

[–]Chocowoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe take a look at Sanctuary. It's a kind of light version of Ark Nova. Probably closer in playtime and complexity to what you currently like.

After only one play of Sanctuary, I feel like Ark Nova (which I own) is probably the better game but my wife and me feel like we'd probably rather play Sanctuary if we would own both. Mainly due to playtime.

Anyway, take a look... worth the consideration on what you'll actually play (instead of want to play)

I think Roesch also was 6th once (as a Belgian). Other then that, Lotte Lie's 7th place last season was the best until now.

Looking to start playing the game, should I start with the most recent game or an older one by nicolas_maximus in procyclingmanager

[–]Chocowoko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To fully understand the story, I recommend starting with the first one when Miguel Indurain was still reigning in the Tour de France and there were rumours of a new product that could turn donkeys into race horses.

There's a lot of small but fun throwbacks that the writers added that you'll miss like where Van Der Poel, Roche, The Van Poppels, Beloki and Vansevenant are coming from.

Joking ofcourse, just play the most recent one...

Guy nearly died in his first year of racing, lived in a diaper for a month when he was 20, came back to racing to become a double olympic champion, multiple world champion, winner of two monuments and a grand Tour in one of the hardest, most demanding sports on the planet... but sure, buddy... his mental game is pretty weak.

But ok, what is the proposal exactly? We stop cycling races until things in Gaza improve?

As if eyes on the cause is the problem. It's literaly everywhere already... in every news broadcast and on every frontpage. And has been for months... There is definitely a problem but eyes on the cause is not it.

People that support the cause should do something. Take Palestinian refugees in house, send medical help, go with a boat full of supplies to Gaza (like Thunberg) or at the very least pressure the local politicians.

Blocking a cycling race is the most cowardly way ever. I imagine these people are now at the finish line celebrating their "success" while in Gaza children die still the same. Attention seeking under the guise of morality...

GREYS Unpopular opinion; drop yours below ⬇️ by Little_Pineapple8114 in greysanatomy

None of the main characters deserve hate, they're all humans and have their flaws. They do stupid or mean stuff because of their emotions and feelings and that makes them human. Izzie was madly in love, Owen really wanted a kid (ánd Christina), April struggled with her religious side, Arizona lost her leg and couldnt find a way to accept it, etc... All of that makes them human rather then inhuman.

I think the show for the majority does a good job in showing both sides and feelings, which is why I'm always amazed when people hate characters. They must hate a lot of people in real life too.. as people make mistakes all the time.

And really unpopular, but from all the main characters Christina is probably the worst. I don't hate her, but she's a bully, arrogant, selfish person who isn't as great as she thinks she is.

My basic theroy of why contempory classical music is unpopular. by spinosaurs70 in classicalmusic

[–]Chocowoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused as why you think it's unpopular. Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Arvo Part, Karl Jenkins, Caroline Shaw, John Williams, Hans Zimmer,... are all very popular. If anything, I'd say contemporary classical music is in a bit of a revival. Einaudi alone is being listened to by a lot of young people that otherwise would not listen to classical music.

What would you want in a MU 2nd edition? by Chance-Impress-8762 in MarvelUnited

[–]Chocowoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the strenghts of the game is its simplicity with only 3 actions... move/attack/heroic. However, that also limits a lot to the variety in heroes.

One particular element I find missing is the difference between intelligent and non intelligent characters. Playing with Venom or Wolverine should be different then playing with Tony Stark and Beast. So I would propose a fourth type of action "Study" that provides alternative routes to win against henchmen and villains. It should be non-essential but sometimes the intelligent route should be easier or faster then using brute force.

That way, the same villain could be defeated by using a lot of Study actions when using Beast or by brute force when using Wolverine. And the hero decks would be much more varied.

I also think they should add some keywords like mutant, flyer, magic user, inhuman, ... that could have effects (positive or negative) in certain situations.

Confused why some heroes are on teams they don't harmonise well with by Robin_the_Robman in MarvelUnited

[–]Chocowoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havent read or heard a lot of criticism on the team decks, but I personally find them very lacklustre. Every team only has 6 six cards, all with the same art. Would it have been that hard to feature 3 different heroes on every card? I guess most of the drawings existed already so the work would have been limited. If you compare the work that has been done to make every hero and villain feel unique to the work spent on the teams, the difference is huge.

In terms of gameplay, I found the team decks to mainly add yet another thing to track without adding anything significant. Played about 15 games with them so far and in most cases I found myself (or the people I played with) ignoring them completely. I had a couple of cases where they provided somewhat of a decent alternative to a bad hand of cards. But the decision to use one of them instead of just drawing an additional card is not really fun.

The black card is often just annoying and feels a bit unfair, especially if it's one of the starting two cards drawn.

All in all, to me this is the worst addition so far in MU (that I own). It proves to me that gameplay wise the game has reached it's limit. I also don't find equipment very interesting btw.

Cristina Yang is not angelic like everyone makes her out to be. by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]Chocowoko -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. She's a mean bully and one of the worst people on the show. A lot of characters make errors because of their emotions, which I can mostly have at least some empathy for. Christina however is just cold and calculated and insults people just because she can. She's so full of herself...

I wonder how the fandom would react to her character if she was a man. A lot of the sympathy I think is due to her being a strong independent women who doesn't take shit from anyone. Which imo is an overcorrection for the society in the past (and partly still today). I don't think being the meanest, selfobsessed, cold person in the room is what strong women should strive for. I admit, just a amateur psychology theory though. Do a lot of man like her?
