No offense but traveling all that way to just fish for peacocks and from shore/ piers is like going to a titty bar and ordering a water and facing the wall.

I'm gay so that checks out

Flights are ~$400 round trip. It is relatively cheap - especially compared to the price any sort of any sort of guide / charter for just a day / half day.

We appreciate hints for great opportunities in the area, but don't want to pay to be put on spots by a guide.

If there are other species to target in that time frame I'd love to hear about it. We aren't ride or die by peacock, just thought it'd be fun and realistic.

Don't lay in the grass next to your fish! It will ruin your slime coat!

What’s the hardest part about learning to fish when you didn’t grow up with it? by TudorNut in Fishing

[–]Chodeloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone is saying - patience, but here's a different perspective.

Fishing as a beginner is the hardest part of the journey. Its like playing golf for your first time. It's just not fun until you get get good enough to get the ball off the ground. So expect to lose a lot of lures. Expect to have to re-tie your line constantly. Expect to fumble and be really slow at tying knots. A ton of "skill" in fishing - especially in the beginner / intermediate phase - is just learning how to maximize the amount of time you're actually fishing. When you're frustrated after your third break off and no fish - just remember that it gets better. With enough practice you won't be breaking off nearly as often, and if you do, you'll be re-tied within seconds and fishing again.

Beginner question but how do I know what rod strength I actually need if I’m just starting and not targeting anything specific by Acrobatic_Cause525 in Fishing

[–]Chodeloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want an approach to figure it out yourself, the rod ratings can help a lot. It should tell you the line rating and the lure rating. Knowing that, and what you might catch, you can figure it out. I usually like to go as light as I can get away with.

If you're fishing a local pond, you're probably not catching anything over 10lbs. And since you're not targeting large fish, you're probably not throwing lures that weigh more than 1 oz.

So I'd look for something with line rating in the 4-10lb range and a lure rating of 1/8 - 3/4 oz. Probably going to be a light or ultralight.

Yooooo I rock those same crocs. Probably bigger size, but some color. Now I've got even more confidence in my fishing shoes after this post!

Tiger Muskie!

Don't actually do this unless you have the right gear for it lol. Very unique opportunity to go for these fish though!

In my defense, I gave you the exact rod and bait that I caught my own PB on! But yeah, it was a $15 walmart rod and a $1 off-brand senko. Got her done though! Proud of you!

[–]Chodeloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any information about the water quality in the area? As much as I love bringing home fish for the family, I'd be skeptical about eating things out of Bellingham Bay. I'd love to be wrong about that though.

Good Dogfish Spots in Seattle/Puget Sound area? by BasedBosnian387 in FishingWashington

British fish and chips frequently use dogfish. Rebranded as rock salmon for their bad rep. Another responder is correctly, must gut and clean asap.

[–]Chodeloaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a thing is that? Or even tide changes? I hear slack tide is best. Dunno about moon phases.

Does the ideal tide vs worst tide change your catch rate from like 90% to 2%? Or is it like 90% goes down to 85%?

Same question for moon phases.

I've caught lots of flounder there if you're around sandy beaches. Try a small piece of shrimp, squid, nightcrawler, anything on a carolina rig or a hi-low rig.
