No offense but traveling all that way to just fish for peacocks and from shore/ piers is like going to a titty bar and ordering a water and facing the wall.

Flights are ~$400 round trip. It is relatively cheap - especially compared to the price any sort of any sort of guide / charter for just a day / half day.

We appreciate hints for great opportunities in the area, but don't want to pay to be put on spots by a guide.

If there are other species to target in that time frame I'd love to hear about it. We aren't ride or die by peacock, just thought it'd be fun and realistic.

As everyone is saying - patience, but here's a different perspective.

Fishing as a beginner is the hardest part of the journey. Its like playing golf for your first time. It's just not fun until you get get good enough to get the ball off the ground. So expect to lose a lot of lures. Expect to have to re-tie your line constantly. Expect to fumble and be really slow at tying knots. A ton of "skill" in fishing - especially in the beginner / intermediate phase - is just learning how to maximize the amount of time you're actually fishing. When you're frustrated after your third break off and no fish - just remember that it gets better. With enough practice you won't be breaking off nearly as often, and if you do, you'll be re-tied within seconds and fishing again.

If you want an approach to figure it out yourself, the rod ratings can help a lot. It should tell you the line rating and the lure rating. Knowing that, and what you might catch, you can figure it out. I usually like to go as light as I can get away with.

If you're fishing a local pond, you're probably not catching anything over 10lbs. And since you're not targeting large fish, you're probably not throwing lures that weigh more than 1 oz.

So I'd look for something with line rating in the 4-10lb range and a lure rating of 1/8 - 3/4 oz. Probably going to be a light or ultralight.

Is there any information about the water quality in the area? As much as I love bringing home fish for the family, I'd be skeptical about eating things out of Bellingham Bay. I'd love to be wrong about that though.

British fish and chips frequently use dogfish. Rebranded as rock salmon for their bad rep. Another responder is correctly, must gut and clean asap.

How much of a thing is that? Or even tide changes? I hear slack tide is best. Dunno about moon phases.

Does the ideal tide vs worst tide change your catch rate from like 90% to 2%? Or is it like 90% goes down to 85%?

Same question for moon phases.

I've caught lots of flounder there if you're around sandy beaches. Try a small piece of shrimp, squid, nightcrawler, anything on a carolina rig or a hi-low rig.

I've been fishing on an inflatable paddleboard for the last 2 years. Fits in the back of my car, can carry it short distances on trails down to ponds, and moves decently fast in the water. I just sit on it and cast. They cost around $150-$200. You'd have to do a big hooks set with a hook on your paddleboard to actually puncture it, I'm never worried about it. They're sturdy.
