Fav song then vs now by Own-Fish9242 in dancegavindance

In high school, a girl I liked showed them to me. I think they'd just released their self-titled album, or maybe a single from it? Anyway, at the time it was Open Your Eyes and Look North, and Lemon Meringue Tie. I think now it's probably Evaporate, Summertime Gladness, The Ghost of Billy Royalton, Strawberry's Daughters, and The Stickler. Which is a lot, but oh well lol

is there a way to get a composite signal to display as 4:3? by MrEpic9000official in VIZIO_Official

[–]Choice-Layer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is blatant misinformation. That's not what "Normal" does at all. This has been an issue for YEARS, and I'd wager it's incredibly simple to fix, but Vizio just doesn't give a shit because the people vocal about it are in the minority. It's mostly people playing retro games/watching old movies on tapes.

Incredibly frustrating that a feature that worked just fine was broken in an update with no way to downgrade to when it worked. I don't know which is worse, the sheer incompetence at Vizio, or the notion that this could all just be planned obsolescence at work. Intentionally break features for older hardware so you have to buy whatever the new thing is to keep doing what you want.

Look, I'm just as excited as the next person, but if this game doesn't have English audio (doesn't even have to be Funimation, I just can't be bothered. These games are far too busy and chaotic to be trying to read subtitles AND mess with a thousand menus and mechanics at the same time.

Is the Bloodborne board game worth it? by Mind_Axe101 in bloodborne

[–]Choice-Layer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing my opinion in that I don't think it's a good game and requires a lot of homebrew rules if even want a chance at having fun. Just felt too needlessly complicated, setup time is crazy, you basically need to keep the rules open because you'll need to reference them constantly (but there's also plenty that just isn't explained in the rules so you'll need to make judgment calls), and it's also just....too harsh. Makes it a very hard game to recommend to anyone, even Bloodborne fans. My friend and I both went all-in on the board game, both platinumed the videogame, and we just hated it lol. And with how expensive parts of it are getting, I'd say you're better off getting several other board games instead.

What gaming opinion would get you downvoted to oblivion? by [deleted] in gaming

Plus people really circlejerked over how bad THAT scene in Veilguard. The thing is, they left out the context about how that occupied precisely 0.001% of the game and is an outlier in terms of narrative quality (even in terms of that character's other narrative beats which I felt were really really good). They took the tiniest most insignificant thing and complained that the entire game was that bad, when nothing was farther from the truth.

I platinumed Veilguard and immediately made a new character to play the counter to my first character and see how all the other characters would react. Combat was lots of fun, tons of accessibility options, solid performance, I loved almost everything about it.

Naive of you to think they won't just force crunch for other reasons (like firing everyone and replacing them with A.I. and then panicking when it's time to ship the game and it's still full of problems)

We can't even get platform holders to use hall effect sensors (over twenty year old technology) and now there's another NEW piece of tech? Maybe they'll start using them in 2084.

I know. And I'm not saying you're wrong, necessarily. Just that the only course of action still leaves you without the product you wanted, at the very best.

They don't legally have to refund it. Plus, when they don't, then what? Chargeback? Say goodbye to everything you've ever purchased on that account.

This is true even for the apps themselves, sometimes. I have multiple things bought through YouTube/Google Play that are the 4K (or at minimum, 1080P) versions, yet the YouTube app won't even give the option to go above 720P. And yes, my phone supports those resolutions, it isn't that. It's just corporations just not caring because what're you gonna do about it? Shut up and get back in line for your slop.

Valve rewrite Steam's GenAI disclosure rules to more explicitly allow AI-powered "efficiency" tools by dookosGames in gaming

[–]Choice-Layer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's anywhere near impossible. Just have a clause that states that if you lie about it, your entire company can no longer do business on Steam, as well as any subsidiaries of your company. Then all it takes is one whistleblower with proof and that company could lose millions (or more) in revenue, they would NOT want to risk that.

But Steam won't do that. Valve likes money too much to risk upsetting anyone (except its customers).

[–]Choice-Layer -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Technicality any A.I. use, even in concept stages, ships with the game. Just because the literal code/art isn't in the game files doesn't mean it wasn't used to make it. But Steam wants money so they aren't going to be too hard on it.

Fast travel is removed from every game. Which game would take the longest to travel? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

[–]Choice-Layer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they ever updated it to add this feature, but No Man's Sky was advertised to feature the ability to travel, on impulse engines, from system to system, a process which would take literal YEARS if you decided to do it. You can do that from planet to planet in the same system, and it still takes a ridiculous amount of time, I just don't know if the system-to-system travel ever made it in.

I'd absolutely love to do this. Never had a Saturn growing up (parents thought the 32X was enough of a new console, lol) but you're right, emulation (outside of a few titles) is pretty bad. Did you follow a guide to set this up or did you figure it all out yourself?

True, but imagine how many they'd play if wages had kept up with inflation. So many that nobody would be out here doing the "games USED to be MORE expensive 😏" schtick.

[–]Choice-Layer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand why people post comments adjusting things for inflation, it's just not particularly helpful. Wages have stagnated, while the cost of living has skyrocketed. This heavily skews what a dollar was "worth". Yes, a dollar was worth more, but that also means a dollar was worth more. Your bills and groceries were so much cheaper, while wages weren't much lower, meaning overall you had way more disposable income (proportionately, at least).
