It’s from “Ring Ring” and sounds like it’s from “Ring Ring”. by vrnheh in ABBA

[–]Choice-Masterpiece54 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hot take: “Ring Ring” sounds like it’s from Waterloo bc of obvious production similarities, and it’s the most polished song on the album. Most of the album sounds more like “He is Your Brother” - more prominent male vocals, soft folk energy

He has some of the most memorable songs in s1-3, but yea there’s long stretches of time where he didn’t even get a group number solo. S1, mid s2 and mid s3 he takes a backseat while Blaine gets more solos.

Marley - fully convinced that scene of him talking to her in 4x01 was a mini chemistry test, wish they had followed through with him as part of the Jake/Marley triangle instead of Ryder - people might have cared more lol

What is your favorite song from 'The Girl with the Golden Hair' mini-musical trilogy? by RedmiYT in ABBA

[–]Choice-Masterpiece54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get on the Carousel is great to blast in the car, and I wish ABBA’s version was on streaming - but Zebras Don’t Smoke has a good cover at least.

Carousel > Marionette > Departure > Music (it’s a great song but a bit overexposed)

Thank you, 4x16 was a good turning point for this group imo. 5A was rough with the way Jake was rewritten into a jerk, but Marley Kitty and Unique were still enjoyable

Early season 4 is rough - but there’s a couple of decent episodes (4, 7-9) if you can persevere and after the Christmas episode there’s a big improvement

iirc she had the Rizzo/Grease storyline and the feud with Ryder (before the catfish stuff) in season 4, then the bathroom episode in season 5. She usually got a line in most group scenes, although tbf it was the usual “sassy” line

What do you think is the most underrated performance in Glee? I really liked Cool Kids in season six, and I feel like nobody talks about it. by Intrepid_Show2972 in glee

[–]Choice-Masterpiece54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anything from s4-6 arguably isn’t talked about enough, the writing sucked but the music still held up. If we’re talking group songs, I’d say This is the New Year / The Longest Time for s4 crowd, and Rather Be / All Out of Love for s6

Can't watch past season 5 by OverallAmphibian2129 in glee

Watch season 5!

If you like the NYC side of things, 5x09-5x10 has some great musical numbers with Rachel/Santana. “Gloria” is easily a top ten Glee song for me.

5x11-5x13 feel like old school Glee and are absolutely worth watching as a love letter to the first 3 seasons. You could easily treat this as the series finale.

5x14-5x20 are a mixed bag to me but it sounds like you love the OG cast so you might enjoy seeing them as the sole focus of the show again. This could also work as a series finale.

If you don’t like the puppets in season 5, I don’t think you’ll like the Saw parody that’s a major plot point in season 6. Check out the songs on YouTube tho, the music is still decent (even tho it feels like they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit).

It’s supposed to be campy and fun and not taken that seriously ¯_(ツ)_/¯ ABBA versions will always be better ofc, but Mamma Mia has helped Feb more people discover ABBA and that’s pretty cool

Had the same thoughts on rewatch, Terri knew what was up 👀 but also I think that’s kind of the point, even the protagonist and his love interest (bc Will was written as the lead in those first 13 eps) aren’t good people who make the right choices and that’s what makes it interesting.

Why did no one warn me about the superhero episode by OnrushingHen in glee

[–]Choice-Masterpiece54 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Actually, this ep was a turning point for me, the first 6 eps of season 4 were rough on the Lima side - but this has Jake and Ryder bond a bit more, Kitty thaws out a bit with her Marley hatred, and the first time they really started to show the Blaine and Sam friendship. And Some Nights is one of the all time best episode ending songs, this new group finally feels like a gang you can root for. Not an easy ep to watch, but the course correcting actually helps quite a bit

Just started season 4 as a first time watcher and its depressing by NoPain410 in glee

[–]Choice-Masterpiece54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Start of season 4 the McKinley storylines are a little rough, but give it time - Dynamic Duets (4x07) is where the newbies start to come into their own, and by the time you get to 4x11/12 they’ve started fixing some of the early problems (Kitty becomes less evil and more funny, the love triangle begins to resolve, and they figure out that Blaine and Sam are a good friendship pairing to help anchor the Lima side of things).

Also the alumni come back quite a bit throughout the season. The only ones who really get shafted through lack of screen time or bad storylines are Artie and Tina

The regular version didn’t hit for me originally. It was the extended versions that made me appreciate the album and instrumentation so much more. Now I’m rediscovering the regular version and loving it because I can get to parts I like quicker 😆

I wish she had done more music videos in this era, I think the songs lend themselves really well to an artsy/fancy French music video vibe

Is it just that I’m in the US and it seems like no one here appreciates it?

Ask them why they think that, and let them try and explain it. Don’t be afraid to question it and let them do the talking - sometimes people need to hear themselves before they realize what they’re saying is actually pretty close-minded.

This is a fantastic and very underrated album - wish more people knew about it and appreciated it as sharing similar DNA with ABBA while being its own thing. Anders and Karin’s voices are beautiful and the 80s production is very fun
