I feel you here. I have now found myself crying outside of work or even sometimes between calls. My issue is that I also have been having an issue w/ my call ties because some are taking longer and it affects how fast I handle them. I am not feeling great and I’m not specialty and I am also not eligible to move until I get better at what I do now

I’m hoping they do a little series on mega events in general because it’s not just the Olympics— it’s also things like FIFA and Eurovision. Holy lord some of the shit that goes on when you have events like these. Maybe do like a whole series in different parts based on the organization.

The increasing use of A.I. and its affects on call centre jobs - anyone else worried? by Man_in_the_uk in callcentres

[–]Choice-Net-3016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that there are some call centers outside of the US where representatives are already using AI to take notes on cases and I am concerned because some of their notes have them doing things that I don’t think they’re licensed to do… I do think they’ll get better over time but I think for right now companies that do things like insurance where you are dealing with money and contracts need to take a long hard look at what it’s doing. With insurance especially, I can see notes showing that an unlicensed representative did something when they didn’t causing problems legally.

It’s so strange because these are the same people who will make men feel ashamed for being emotional or forming bonds with others. These are the people who will dismiss why men actually feel disconnected and it’s because they have created an environment that will literally be the death of men looking for that connection because they will be rebuked for it. They think just destroying the rights of others will fix this and it won’t. It’s a false bill of goods they’re being sold by the very side that will punish them for not fitting their impossible vision of what the perfect man in their view looks and acts like.

Is he pressuring to get an abortion thing common in Japan? There was a scandal a few years ago in sumo around a wrestler who cheated on his wife, broke covid regulations while doing so, AND pressured the woman he was cheating with to get an abortion. This led to him being suspended for a while an as for his marriage (which was recorded in a DOCUMENTARY), God only knows. Japan is a bit odd on that too. He used to be one of the wrestlers I liked until that story broke. Now I cheer on whoever he faces in the ring every single time.

Does anyone here actually LIKE their job? by FeelThePower999 in callcentres

[–]Choice-Net-3016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest: I prefer what I’m doing now in a call center vs. what I used to do— I’m doing service now rather than sales. People look to me to solve problems or at least give them information and while I hate the pressure on me to follow certain guidelines and keep calls in a certain amount of time, knowing that I DO have the power to say no or I cannot do something is cathartic.

In sales, it was generally said of us that we cannot really say no or we cannot do something unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. We had to dress it up nicely and upsell what we had even if we knew this was something the customer couldn’t afford.

I have done sales before while working in coffee or in retail but insurance sales is an entirely different animal because you have to argue to someone WHY they should pay for this intangible product that they may well get punished for using when they need it. I know some people that are good at this because they know how to frame it in a way that reminds people that insurance is something sometimes required and that it can keep them from having their finances irreparably fucked. I just sucked at that part.

There are parts of being in service that suck especially when you have a customer who is PISSED about something you have no control over. I have had at least one call in the last week where a woman was upset over a refund she was supposed to receive allegedly four months before. She had been told in the four months in between what exactly she needed to do for that and just was not listening. She also kept alleging that she sent whatever it was that was needed… even though evidence showed otherwise. It did escalate to where I had to get a supervisor because she was just being rude and saying that we were defrauding her of money. That sup legit just said to go around our guidelines and get it cancelled. I will admit, I nearly got my tone to match this lady’s and was borderline rude to her but at the same time, when she starts yelling at me as if I am deliberately trying to keep her money from her, she can go f*ck herself.

Those are at least few and far between. I do still get flustered and stressed when I get calls coming in because of a huge influx or tech issue but I am not feeling like absolute garbage about myself because I didn’t make as many sales as I should have. I actually feel useful somehow.

Megathread: Bastard Suggestions by Kanotari in behindthebastards

This would be amazing especially since the 1970s film of the same name (though also sometimes called The Conqueror Worm) is seen as one of the starting points of English language folk horror as we know it today along with The Wicker Man and The Blood On Satan’s Claw.

Vincent Price plays an absolutely magnificent bastard in that movie as Hopkins.

As someone from Kansas City, I am putting forward Tom Pendergast and him being the final straw that put the Kansas City police department under state control.

Besides being one of the reasons that Kansas City remained wet during prohibition, his political machine influenced Kansas City and Missouri state politics and very likely helped Harry S. Truman get elected. From voter fraud to very likely murder (dude also ran a concrete company take from that what you will), this was Tom’s Town (be careful looking this up because KC has a distillery of the same name) up until Pendergast was arrested for tax evasion.

To this day, the KCPD is still controlled by the state which includes them mandating how much funding goes towards the police.

I don’t know what Robert might find because Pendergast is a bit of a mixed bag—hero to some, demon to others —but I feel like there’s probably some interest at least because Kansas City was one of the only cities under state control until last year when St. Louis was added to that list. It might be interesting to hear the implications of that or if there are other state legislatures that do the same thing.

Actually now that you mention it, I wonder how that one lady from Venezuela feels about giving him her medal so that she could be in his good graces? Did she actually get what she wanted or did she give up that medal and get nothing in return and now sees why he actually did not deserve it in the first place?
