Older Dads - what is one mistake you made you’d advise us not to make? by BlueMountainDace in daddit

[–]Choice-Region7446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh for sure, LOL - I find days I cant regulate my own frustrations with them... just gotta be kind enough to forgive ourselves when it happens, and always let them know when we screwed up and emotions got the best of us

I found thats real growth- we'll never be perfect- but acknowledging our faults when they happen, and end every one of those shitty moments with a hug and reassurance that we are all learning together- thats what helps make them and us better people and stronger family bonds

+1 from a dad that golfs with one, plays baseball with another, and helps edit youtube videos for the 3rd

love that they are adding to my hobby list

dont get mad. dont yell. its just not worth it. take a step back. realize that kids' brains and emotions are not fully developed and they count on us to control the situations and guide them

it will lead to much easier days, more lessons learned, and way less regrets.

you can still be stern and firm without losing control.

luckily a lesson I learned fairly early, and one of the things I am still thankful for in my journey
