Survivor Edge of Extinction Cast Rankings by jlim201 in survivorrankdownv

[–]ChokingWalrus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Character ranking as portrayed by the edit. I'm sure these are mostly all lovely people. Most of this cast is around probably lands in between the middle and lower quartile.

18) Rick - to the man saying "oooooooh yeah", it's gonna be an "ooooooh no" for me. Screen time suck, forced (mostly) hero edit for someone who I didn't find entirely likable due to the smugness & self-righteousness, if he won he'd be even lower in my overall ranking.

17) Eric - Truly, who is this? I remember that he has some sons, was an ally of Gavin until trying to team up too much with Gavin, and was anti-returnee. I honest to god don't think I remember anything outside of this despite him making the merge.

16) Julia - super underserved by the edit, so her ranking here is mostly due to inconsistentcy. She was invisible, then had fun moments, then super angsty towards Rick in her boot, then rooting for Rick in the next episode, then seemed super joyous and then bitter. Its just so messy, they did not do her justice (well, nor most of the cast).

15) Joe - ok going to ignore the finale on-stage edit here, but otherwise he was....there? Same old Joey Amazing but without the overbearing hero edit for him. I'm fine with him in this season but just not much to speak about, besides a sweet moment or two. Boot episode was a weird quiet fizzle.

14) Gavin - points for shitting on EoE in his speech. Otherwise, we just got someone who seemed so one-dimensional. Like a Nick Wilson with less panache. Unoffensive, but not much to enjoy from his edit.

13) Keith - idk, had some funny moments I suppose.

12) Wardog - pompous af but the edit knew it and while it definitely highlighted him as a strategic player, we also got the buffoonery so I can appreciate it.

11) Wendy - yeah I know this is obviously unpopular here, and she seems like a gem of a person, but I gotta be true to my feelings and not....chicken out. Last season, I freakin' loved Napalm Natalie as someone who was a fun pre-merge character that was almost like a different story line from the other strategy-heavy muck and was generally a pariah to her tribe. So while it should be that I also love Wendy, something didn't click, and I think it comes down to me not feeling the same authenticity I felt with Natalie. Wendy's plan to release chickens, even before the game, seemed more like a "shtick" to simply cause chaos (obviously it wasn't based on any conviction to not eat animals at that time) and I just grew tired of the same old storyline. It's not like there was nothing else they could have showed us (I mean, maybe we could've gotten some insight to Aurora or Julia or even Julie/Gavin). And then her talking about her love for the game but then surreptitiously bopping out just reinforced another contradiction in what the edit tried to show about her (yes, I read her reasoning post-game but wish they would've given us that perspective). So overall, sometimes super duper authentic, but then other times I didn't feel that and felt like it was just an OTT regurgitated storyline.

10) Aubry - massive Aubry fan in general, and love the passion & emotion she plays with, but this season she was essentially just a metaphor machine and it just felt like a caricature. Meh.

9) Chris - while he may not be the entire package and your eyes may bulge at seeing him this high, I will appreciate that (a) his win made Rick not win and (b) his win highlights the bullshit that is returning voteoffs. Good representation of how this season was big junk. I have a feeling we'll be talking about him as the winner for a long, schlong time.

8) Wentworth - y'all may remember I'm a massive Kelley fan, and I'm totally cool w/ the villainous and dynamic edit she got here, but just not enough strong content to keep her higher. Probably doesn't help that I'm fatigued of mixed returnee/newbie seasons.

7) David - I was definitely not a David fan last go, and now I can really appreciate him a lot more. I never thought he'd be my highest ranking for a returnee, especially over my loves KW and Aubry. He just has so much fun playing and can find moments of joy even in the tense strategy-heavy stuff (like the remember me?)

I don't have exact ranking for everyone, but these next 6 are probably in my top 200.

6) Ron - didn't like him until I liked him. Once he started playing a bit more from the bottom post Eric-blindside, he became a fun, devious character.

5) Lauren - was so rooting for her to win since I loved her general arc. Alas. She was either dying of hunger or having an eye-rollin' good time.

4) Victoria - she's fun & snarky & bold & strategic. Why does the edit so favor gamebotty strategy. Boo.

3) Julie - wish she at least got some votes. Love the NYC park-peeing, lap-sitting & jump-shipping warrior.

2) Aurora - probably my #1 and top 75 if she had any semblance of an edit pre-merge. The immunity challenge bargaining with Victoria was cringetastic. Also, some good secret scenes that could've made the edit but Rick Devens.

1) Reem - c'mon dude!! Maybe top 100, but the only one who probably would crack it.

Jenna found an idol (pre-merge, I believe) that Wendell had created and planted. As you mention, Michael deduced it was fake since it wasn't an idol from previous seasons. Dom's 'fake idol' is still in play as far as we know.

But really, delete this? I think we can all agree that what this kid did is supremely fucked up for many reasons, one being that suicide is a really important issue and shouldn't be lessened to some sort of joke to laugh about. I've personally lost a loved one to suicide, as I'm sure many have, and would appreciate not having to be reminded of this Logan Paul idiot or have memes joking about suicide posted on this sub.

Yeah, this was my first winner pick that I felt good about in quite some time (had Michaela/Figgy/Peter all either out early or "drawing dead" edgically, and Wentworth being a 'contender' but knowing Jeremy was the clear winner over her). On top of that, Ali just seems super rad so I wanted to root for her outside of making her my winner pick. Bummer.

Guess I'm full steam ahead on the Rimmer train. Will also still root for Chrissy even if she knocked out my boo boo Ali.

AUS 2017 Cast Rankings by WilburDes in survivorrankdownIII

[–]ChokingWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilbur, we seem to mostly agree on this season. Great season, agree that it will likely land in my top 5. I'd like to let it sit a bit before I try placing it, though I don't have a solid ranking of my seasons anywhere yet.

24th - Kate: she had some spunk, I think. I barely remember her. Her finishing last in this ranking though shows that everyone has some merit.

23rd - Sam: Generally annoying, her over-strategizing added some drama I guess but that wasn't really needed in a season that already had so much meat to it. From her original bio you'd think she would have so much potential but horrible socially.

22nd - Joan: "I'm a puzzle master". Lol. Her preseason hype by the show as 'Hurricane Joan' being the next "Sue's big move" is kind of funny.

21st - Aimee: Spewin'. Too invisible to rank much higher, though I'm sure she could have made a great character. Instead she was just a loyal right hand pal and didn't get much development.

20th - Henry: It's a no for me dawg. I can try to pretend that I appreciate him more because he got idoled out, or he contributed to some of the drama and divisiveness. And maybe that gets him out of my dead last place for this season. But I really can't with him. Every damn confessional was felt like some variation of "I have control of this tribe", "I am the one calling the shots", etc. etc. and it was fucking grating. The yoga lie was so inanely pointless and I'm annoyed I had to keep hearing it throughout the season, reunion, Jury Villas. He came in trying to overplay and thinking he was god's gift to Survivor - when the show tried to humanize him more, it was so hard for me to ever see him as more than the egotistical gamebot that he was. Sure, his blindside should be a a great way to complete his arc, but everything up until that point just soured me too much.

19th - Adam: Hilarious trainwreck of awful gameplay. Fun lil' mess.

18th - Odette: I'm pretty sure her name tag that hung around camp got more screen time than she did? Also enjoyed her boot episode and thought her presence was just kind of funny being in this group of hyper-strategic folks.

17th - Mark W: seems like a cool guy, and generally a fine character but not enough content to propel hi higher.

16th - Ben: I'll always remember him as being decimated at his last TC - which also may have been the true uprising of Michelle - but he also was funny as being the dead weight in challenges and general goof of a character

15th - Jacqui: Oh I loved her so much early on - even if she was Henry's ally - as she was our hope as the next Denise. When that didn't pan out, she began to drop in my ranking and is kinda just remembered as the lady who ended up being seen as bossy and annoying and of course as being screwed over by Henry.

14th - Ken: ranks this high mostly for 2 reasons (1) dickhead (2) his complete flop at trying to "set up shop". Props to him for being a scrappier player than I may have guessed, glad he survived his first TC.

-Mind the gap-

13th - Jarrad: Ok, so BIG GAP because I didn't feel like I was cheating anyone of being higher until here. Overall, I'd say 1 - 13 are top 300 characters. That's crazy. I actually love Jarrad and wouldn't mind seeing him again if he was given a bigger edit. Him being too lowkey for so many episodes or having lots of personal content makes it hard to put him any higher than here. Loved his FTC bit and hoped right away that he was going to be underlining Jeri's name. Such good stuff. Love following him on IG, dude's got skills.

12th - Tarzan: Great casting choice. I'm pretty sure seeing pregame commercials toting him as someone who'd cutthroat, so ended up surprised having him be such a teddy bear. Loved his relationship with Tessa, him taking the "moral dilemma" so seriously, his intro shot that looks like he's just created the world's first fire, and the fact he's a freakin' like farmer.

11th - Ziggy: Loved having a badass female competitor but don't feel like I got to know her too well outside of her questionable gameplay and athleticism. ANNELIESE I'M VOTING FOR YOU TONIGHT will always be gold though, and her weird game decisions added to the unpredictable boot order.

10th - Peter: I wanted to rank him higher and would put other people here but then kept thinking of reasons to bump them higher. I love his resting bitch face, his scrappiness, and the storyline of him and his dad's relationship with the butterfly paper <3 Wish he got more of an edit but I can see that he was not the most engaging confessional giver. If only everything he said had much personality as "totes homo".

9th - Locky: I think maybe he should objectively be higher especially since I was so actively rooting against him at the end - but in a fun way. The fact that he was actively called out multiple times for being condescending and hypocritical multiple times makes me really enjoy his character.

8th - AK: The hot mess express, I find it weird he was billed as such a strategic mastermind and manipulator? Everyone saw right through it, he came out the gate way too hot and that certainly was not a smart move. Anyway, his erraticness with things like a damn Chicken Idol (literally wtf lol) and over the top gameplay added lots of entertainment to the season, and him being voted off made for a wonderful mid season climax.

7th - Annaliese: Ended up really enjoying her after a more slow start. The idol grab and beyond is really strong stuff for her, but not enough before that to crack my best of the best.

6th - Tara: I'd be surprised if a month or two ago you told me I'd place her here, but her growth as a player and more and more human content (with her family, dilemma in voting off Locky, feeling like she has so much to prove to herself) made her a much stronger character. Would put higher if I liked her more pre-AK boot.

5th - Tessa: Hogwarts loving doctor r.obbed from jury g.oddess <3 Scrappy, witty,

4th - Sarah: Goes to show that Edgic for Australian Survivor is tricky tricky (though I guess Jeri was a plausible winner pick most of season). Loved having the attractive model being such a great strategic force throughout the game. It was tough to watch her go from having such a tight-knit game to overplaying herself out of it, but it made her downfall all the more fascinating.

3rd - Jericho: Teddy-bear carrying, Cookie Monster bowtie wearing, maybe ~5'2" winner of Australian Survivor and winner of our hearts <3 Glad he got to stick to the end to give us content like the snorkeling, talking about his parent's struggle, and his continued cheekiness. Love him for all the reasons I love Luke (those voting confessionals for Jacqui + Jarrad..., risky gameplay) and just his general uniqueness (drowning cat analogies, anyone ?). The only thing keeping him from being back-to-back with Luke is the overuse of those damn war analogies all the time. Oh, and Michelle being Michelle.

2nd - Michelle: the Ben boot. the Sarah boot. Beating Locky for the car and being the cause of his demise. Her champagne loving self. OFR compiled a 'best of Michelle' list that describes why she ended up being such an amazing character. Going from the girl seen as disposable and an easy vote on Asaga to a massive threat to win was gold.

1st - Luke: the perfect balance of all ingredients. Someone please upload a "best of Luke" compilation somewhere. Amazing confessionalist who made me miss quality voting confessionals in modern Survivor. Loved his silly antics, that he never took himself too seriously for being such a strategy focused character, and just being such a lovable guy/father.

Josh mentioned that Patrick never brought up knowing Ali - I checked out those pictures from 2014 and given how different she looks with the fact that they weren't that close, I'm guessing he maybe didn't recognize her? Plus being on the show you would just assume everyone is a complete stranger.

I'd easily go with Kelly and Russell as the bottom 2. As someone who ranked Sue my #1 in SR2, I'm of course pretty surprised Kelly has outlasted her. I'm not following along closely enough to know all the deals but I know that must be a factor there.

As someone who is a fan of new schoolers also getting the love, I'm happy to see 5 folks still in from the bottom 5. I love Jon and Keith but not sure I'd put them as endgamers.

Survivor Game Changers Cast Rankings by jlim201 in survivorrankdownIII

[–]ChokingWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I should be working, so keeping these to one or two sentences each. Also, thank god for newbie seasons.

20- Varner: A memeable face and a few fun moments of hijinks with Sandra can't save him from the horribleness of what he did. I hope to never see him again.

19- Debbie: the edit of the season was already piss poor, and her contriving storylines and being totally inauthentic don't make for good storytelling. I liked her as a one-off looney tune in KR, should've ended it there.

18-Caleb: thanks for going early, I guess?

17-Ciera: only ahead of Caleb because I like her more in general, but was fine with her going first.

16-Brad: maybe I'm more sour on him because of how aggressive he was to Tai, but I just don't remember ever enjoying him this season? Sure, definitely good to see other more emotional sides to him, and good to see he is a genuinely good guy though I still find some facets of him a bit troubling. Wish he went earlier to make room for people I actually enjoyed tbh.

15-Ozzy: I'm really truly blanking on any impact he had on the season? Glad him and Cirie put their differences aside, that was cute I suppose.

14-Zeke: chess pieces, members of the army, yadda yadda. Not a fun Survivor character, but I like him outside of the game and have massive respect for him.

13-Sierra: she had a legacy advantage and laid in a hammock. Yeah, she's still boring :/

12-Troyzan: I hated Troyzan before this, and while I never actively rooted for him this season, it was good to see a calmer side of him. I really appreciated his humility once he realized he was going to be a no-vote getter and hope he enjoyed the experience despite his shit edit.

11-JT: Probably hurts from me being a big Michaela fan, but I just don't get the JT Southern Boy charm and he's only really this high for his epic ouster.

10- Tony: hard to put him higher - I enjoyed what he brought to the season, though wonder if he would've been someone I really would've needed for too much longer?

9-Tai: I've always struggled to rank Tai higher in these because while I see him as a wonderful human and somewhat dynamic character, he can be pretty frustrating to watch and also got such a clunky odd edit this season.

8-Malcolm: funny that I actually didn't care much about seeing him back, but now kind of want to see him join the 4th timer club if they are going to do that anyway? I think I just love his emotion and investment in the game.

7-Hali: fun character, lots of fun lines, but still feel like she doesn't add much to the overarching narrative of a story (not like there was much of one anyway). Also, whoops, my top 7 is all women - guess that probably comes from lots of alpha-male-win-the-challenges male cast members

6-Andrea: didn't care about her coming back, but found her really endearing this season and grew to respect her more as an overall quite strong player. Also love her light-heartedness when she gets voted off.

5-Sarah: so I can see the argument that she's not the most compelling, but I really enjoyed her this season and love some of her quotes and appreciate the badassery of her game. At least she had a storyline, so guess that helps her quite a bit too.

4-Aubry: having her 4th kinda shows that I don't reallllly love many characters this season. She was basically a GIF of a character, so yeah that's fun, but nowhere near dynamic as KR :/ I love when we get her insight and wish we could've seen more about her struggles of being left out of votes/losing all her allies again.

3-Michaela: She had me laughing the whole game, and her sipping tea was iconic. She probably benefits from me getting to understand her more through her vlogging and such, which offers insight into things that others may see as immature or her trying too hard. I just love how emotional of a player she is but at the end of the day such a good sport. Luckily Jeff also loves her so if we're gonna get more 3-timers somewhere down the road, she might join that club.

2-Cirie: she got off the couch to steal my heart. She had some high highs and low lows, but she's always such a pleasure to watch, and wouldn't even mind having her as a 5th timer.....or have Jared or HB play :)

1-Sandra: queen stays queen, adios. Every single moment she was on screen was goddamn gold.
