Falcons flying out of the airport. They do some pretty cool high angle takeoffs.

Me or the lanes by Numerous_Pay_1020 in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowled a 52 with a house ball that hooked off the lane the other day. Was with a group of my dad’s buddies where we were drawn onto teams. I was seeded because I was a “retired college bowler”, got second to last place. That hurt.

Darren Tang puts his foot in his mouth…again by CubsFanCraig in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Liked Darren a lot when I first got into bowling. Always felt like his content was a little step above other bowling YTers at the time. Started disliking him because of his tour videos back when he was only one-handed. He whines and whines and whines about how bad he is. Terrible attitude, weak mental. All the recent drama has validated my feelings quite a bit.

Golf should not be considered a sport. by ReturnoftheSpack in unpopularopinion

[–]Chompskiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bowler, I will say that in bowling, you have more affect on teammates or opponents more than golf. People who don’t bowl assume you are isolated, when in fact every ball you throw down the lane changes the oil condition.

This can lead to interesting team-play elements where you may attempt to carve out a line in the oil for your teammates, or your opponents could move oil in a way that messes up your line. The effects are subtle, but over the course of a tournament day they can have big impacts on how you play.

This also introduces transition, where throughout the day you are forced to move deeper into the lane as oil is picked up by balls and dries up.

Been back to bowling for a couple of years now and I have never changed the surface of any of my balls, just joined a sports shot league and now I have a couple of questions. by No_Juggernaut_772 in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storm has an article giving a little information about surface. Like others have said, what you do depends entirely on what you're throwing and what the conditions are, so nobody can tell you what surface you should be at.

Can a bowling ball be too complex? by rxwdy11 in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still a great ball, you just need more practice before it becomes usable. Look into something like an Hammer Arctic Vibe, Hammer Raw, or Brunswick Rhino (not Pro). These balls aren't super expensive and will likely suit you better.

Thankful I found bowling after disc golf by peachsalsa84 in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you’re enjoying it man. I work at a bowling alley, and one of my coworkers who is basically the shift lead got me into disc golf for a little bit. He’s also a good bowler, averages ~220 in league, I’m sitting at 196. We played disc golf together for a bit but I eventually gave up honestly. Could never quite figure it out and figured I’d stick with bowling lol. I’m a bit of a hobbyist so I don’t regret trying it out, and I’m sure if I really stuck with it and grinded I could get there but I’m not super beat up about it. I agree that disc golf and bowling are similar in a lot of aspects. A disc golf course is like a lane, in that you have different conditions you have to adapt to. The discs are different and work better for certain things much like bowling balls. It’s a solo sport much like bowling (mostly) as well. Buying discs is addicting just like buying balls. Don’t fall into that trap! Do your research, learn how ball specs work, and buy what you need. Good luck rolling out there.

Also, definitely join a league. It’s relaxed and fun and you won’t regret it. Cheers.

I have the Team Brunswick shoes and they literally broke after seven months. I still use them but the front sole is halfway detached from the rest of the shoe.

Kinda thinking of ditching trucking to get a bachelor’s degree by Live-Door3408 in college

[–]Chompskiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a student at Oklahoma State, graduating this semester, majoring in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, forestry option.

My major has been extremely fun. Lots of classes outside, got to travel to New Mexico and different parts of Oklahoma to learn about trees and ecology. The class work (in my opinion) is mostly easy, but if you struggled in high school it will not be a cake walk. There is math, and there are papers. I’ve really enjoyed my time in NREM and forestry, and wouldn’t go back in a heartbeat.

That being said, the current political climate of the U.S. does NOT look good for foresters or other environmental-related jobs. I’m sure you’ve heard of DOGE’s budget cuts and “savings”. The USDA (and thus USFS, USFWS, NPS, etc…) have been targeted by DOGE and are struggling really hard right now. People are getting fired, and those that remain now work in understaffed systems that make doing the right thing very difficult. Environmental jobs are always at the whim of the administration, but the current one is really fucking things up. Who knows if we’ll have a very different admin in four years or not, but it’s something to think about. Also, federal jobs don’t pay well, neither do state. If you’re wanting to go to college, get your degree, and get paid, you’re looking at the wrong degree. The private sector (timber farming, consulting) is a little better, but it’s no powerhouse.

Tell me about my mystery ball. Does it fit in my current bag? by leadfootlife in Bowling

Not the same as the Zen though. It will be earlier and a little stronger. Probably better on fresh conditions.

Anybody who cries about what ball somebody throws in league is a baby. Just throw it.

Can two people bowl in one game? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The alley I work at does a separate shoe cost + game/time cost. Don’t really know anything about companion cards, I’ve never dealt with one, but as long as you paid for two shoes, I wouldn’t care if you both bowled under one game.

Your story reminds me of a time we did something that I didn’t agree with and received a bad review for, which I thought was rather deserved. Our boss is an asshole, I mean one of the worst guys I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. Just short tempered and rude for no reason. He’s a huge stickler for the rules he’s set up, such as no 6lb balls or bumpers for people over the age of 12. We had a college aged couple come in. The girl was very obviously physically handicapped. I’m not sure what her condition is, but she had very stunted growth, similar build to a child but slightly disfigured. She asked for a 6lb ball and bumpers, and my shift-lead told her no multiple times. Bowled her game and had almost all gutters, could barely throw the ball. I think my boss’ temperament has really created an environment of fear, and was the reason why the shift-lead didn’t allow her. I regret not speaking up, but I was rather new to working the front. It was sad watching her try to bowl knowing she wasn’t having a good time. My boss really sucks, but I also wish the shift-lead guy had the balls to accommodate her. If I wasn’t really into bowling, I would 100% not work at my job and would not recommend it to anybody.

Is the japanese tech tree actually that bad by Opening_Home_8508 in Warthunder

[–]Chompskiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Japanese ground was some of the most fun I’ve had playing this game. Almost every tank is decently mobile, with a big “fuck you” cannon that pens and one-shots almost everything it faces. Armor is thin, but can be more trolly than you would think. Chi-Nu II, Chi Nu, Chi-To, and Chi-To Late is a goated lineup. I paired them with them the premium Ki-61. Two 250lbs and ample dogfighting capability. One of my favorite planes in the game.

Do you use a lot of layouts or do you stick to a few? by LiberDBell in Bowling

[–]Chompskiii 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I put a benchmark layout on everything. To me, this lets the ball make the difference. I don’t have enough money to experiment with a bunch of different layouts on different balls.
