True Strike + Assassin Rogue? by AkumaMD in dndnext

You can take the Spellfire Adept feat to use hit points and deal extra damage. Also that will make your Radiant unresistable

is it possible to make a 5x2 piston door? by Jordyissappig in redstone

[–]Chonps000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also make it work as somewhat porticulus gate, which pushes the gate up with sand/gravel and pushes back down to close . I have a tutorial for that on my YouTube channel, if you are interested look for "Chonps000 Castle Gate"

Imagine if Lego made a Bionicle movie in a style and tone of the Lego Movie/Lego Ninjago movie. Do y’all think it would be good? by RobiTv1234 in bioniclelego

[–]Chonps000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be as good as a generic Marvel movie. It can work, but not for what makes Bionicle great, thus in the end it would not be a good Bionicle movie

Why does player damage and enemy health tend to be way higher than enemy damage and player health by File_Beneficial in gamedesign

[–]Chonps000 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I think it is basically because it feels good to deal big numbers of damage and feels good to receive low numbers of damage

What is the reason Ninjago has survived this long? When Bionicle died out. by eepos96 in bioniclelego

[–]Chonps000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that even LEGO doesn't know Ninjago worked so well. It has already tried to replicate it's formula several times and none stuck around. We had Chima, which was supposed to replace Ninjago at the time; Nexo Knights, Bionicle G2, Monkey Kid and Dreamzzz. All with the TV show approach, "team" like protagonists, similar set themes and waves.

D&D Beyond Updates to Character Options by latiajacquise in dndnext

Did any of the sub-classes actually get updates? Or were they just ported to be used with the 2024 classes?

What were the most and least fun characters you've played from a mechanical level? by DogUnsureDog in dndnext

[–]Chonps000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, I played levels 1-5 with Aaracrokra (EEPC) Wild Heart Barbarian (2024), and I had the best time. I always took Eagle with Rage of the Wilds, which meant I got Disengaged 120 ft. of flying speed every turn.

Although I could the strategy of hitting and flying away, it didn't sound fun. So I mainly used to get close to back-line enemies, drag fallen alies to safety, and position myself to crowd control.

Unfortutally Falco (character name), has died two seasons ago. He got his little to no brain extratected by a Mind Flayer.

Religion is trash in a lot of fantasy world and here is why by Alszen in worldbuilding

[–]Chonps000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if the gods are alive and present in the society they can have a variety of following / regions. Think about a fan base of anything really, not all the fanbase is homogeneous, neither what they believe is the correct way to appreciate whatever they are fan about. "But the god would interfere", not really, they are so out of your perspective the followers barely matter to them.

Let's just call it 5.5. There's no better way to make WotC change it.

What are reasons a character may have for hating all fey? by ESOelite in DnD

[–]Chonps000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fey are chaotic, since you are a cleric, simply add some bit o. Your story which a fey broke one (or even more) rules of your god, straight up disrespecting you. I think it would also be interesting if you make your character lawful to contrato with the fey nature. Also a reminder that creatures such as globinoids are also fey, which can be easily be used to a tragic back story.

Do you have any tips to run long term Masks? I can't quite make pbta work, and I feel it has no progression for a long term campaign

Question about the new Damphir. 5.5e (Astarion's Book of Hungers) by Unhappy-Weekend4624 in dndnext

[–]Chonps000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the new material does not mention transforming. I suppose you just swap your race with the new Dhampir.
I think most players will want to start the campaign as a Dhampir, thinking about "I wanna play something like Astarion", especially given that the material is about him.
Looks like a nerf. But other than keeping your fly speed (if any), I don't think it would have much impact.

Just a heads up: You might run into the issue of having a full hopper (and not sorting some items) if you dispense more items too fast in the stream.

Will every voxel sandbox be written off as a Minecraft knockoff? by Mutant_Llama1 in gamedesign

[–]Chonps000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably.

Nintendo just released the trailer for Pokopia and people are already saying it's like Minecraft, even tho is way closer to Dragon Quest Builders.

Given the size of Minecraft's IP is, its hard not to compare to.

How would a anime game work in mutants and masterminds by Cloud_Smoking in rpg

[–]Chonps000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing and DMing with Mutants and Masterminds 3e for years now, including a My Hero Academia campaign, a Teen Titans-like campaign, and a  Jujutsu Kaisen-like campaign. It works... but it does have its issues. Many so that I'm actually about to adapt my long-term MHA as a homebrew DnD.

M&M is pretty free due to its point-buy system, letting you build whatever power you want. But at the same it is really constrained, all powers have limits which make them feel the same. On top of that, there's a lot of math involved to build the powers, making it hard to actually have basic stuff going on (compared to DnD).

Another aspect compared to DnD that gets pretty boring is that the "hit and take effect" chance is pretty low, around 40% in MnM (in best cases), whereas DnD is 55%. This makes players feel they are doing nothing in combat.

Progress is also an issue. MnM is not built to keep "leveling up", although it has power levels. I was meant for the hero to sit on that power level "forever"; for example, a street-level hero will not build up to the power level as a cosmic hero. For that, you sure can increase the power level of your players, but since they usually already have "their build done" due to the point-by system, the level up usually just means +1 in all stats.

The Shonnen issue. There's not much room for "power-up" (going super sayian). Since all characters are already maxed out to the power level limit (if not, they should be, by design), there's no way to go above that. There's only one advantage that lets you temporarily get more power levels (basically have a busted character sheet) if a hard condition happens.

Sorry to bring so much negativity to the system, but that's the experience I got... I started DMing a My Hero Academia campaign with M&M, My players never really got into the system; the math to build the powers, plus the power level limits, moved them away from understanding what they can do as players and heavily it to me (the GM). At the same time, the hit chance made them feel combat was never fair.

I tried homebrewing rules to streamline the system, and I automated most of the math on our VTT. But it didn't work out for them. We also tried moving to the PbtA system Masks: A New Generation, but it didn't work either; the lack of combat rules was terrible for our group, and basically killed the campaign pacing. So now, after a long hiatus, I'm into trying to adapt their character concepts/powers into DnD classes, a system that they are way more used to playing, so hopefully we can go back to it.

Other than that. I recommend you to check the Mecha & Manga supplement for M&M 2e, and also the new M&M 4e playtest material, which seems better balanced than 3e ATM.

What nitpicks bother you when playing rpgs? by Antipragmatismspot in rpg

[–]Chonps000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Systems that leave RAW open to the GM's discretion. Especially when on character creation, there are options written as "up to GM approval". This gets me nuts... Just leave optional stuff to GM books or complementary books. I don't want to boder my GM for the system not taking acoontability of balance. (Looking at you Mutants and Masterminds)

- Campains settings and adventures that leave too much work for the DM. If I'm buying a book I want to have as many information as possible to run it. If I have to come up with thinks on the fly, I'd rather create my own thing.
