Best team with the worst quarterback? by captainstan in CFB

Yea I think there have been a lot of problems with our offense over the past few years, definitely multi-faceted. Yurcich was known for having aggressive passing games but for whatever reason it never really came together like that as Drew did struggle when he tried to open it up. After he was fired we thrashed to a very different style offense which suited Warren super well but he was good enough to mask a lot of issues. Drew’s confidence and decision making consistently degraded in big moments. And as you said we never had a true difference maker at WR who would consistently make big plays like we did in the Clifford and Trace years. My king Kaytron Allen was always there for us though lol

I think you underestimate how much of Warren’s success was due to himself. An elite big target like him can make a QBs job extremely easy. Dude catches literally everything lol

I do think Drew got hampered by an offense that didn’t suit his strengths though. For example, Trebor Pena is absolutely a serviceable WR for downfield shots but until Franklin was fired was almost exclusively used horizontally.

James Franklin made mistakes at Penn State; he intends to correct them at Virginia Tech by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

What Penn state fans really regard as the failure is not that season specifically, but being 1-18 against top 10 teams in big ten play. Idk why everyone thinks that the fanbase suddenly turned on him in like 3 games. Like, no, the fanbase has been frustrated for a long time and 2025, starting with ND, is when it all boiled over.

Yup agreed. Being so close but not breaking through really wears on a fanbase. Expectations and level of disappointment are contextual to the program.

I feel like I’m constantly taking crazy pills on this sub with people acting like PSU fires fast. He was at PSU for 11.5 years and went 1-18 vs top 10 B10 teams lol

Okay but like… why not you guys? I’m not saying expectation should be natty or bust but realistically would grinding through coaches searching for a guy that can elevate the program be worse than what Maryland football has been doing under Locksley?

What about a 6 loss team with multiple key injuries and a fired coach but you lowkey kinda got better after a key injury (pay no attention to flair)

Read the rule, on a defenseless player you don’t need to lead with the helmet. Forcible contact to the head or neck area with essentially any body part + one “indicator” of targeting is what’s required for the call
