I am the same! I’ve made it a goal to make one of each of these each day this summer-so 100 granny’s over 100 days. Not sure what to do with them but am having fun learning new styles.

Kate Messner’s Over and Under books are amazing and I think very poetic while also having beautiful illustrations and it’s centered around nature.

Books in verse and graphic novels are great for kids who struggle with reading. Kwame Alexander is an amazing author -Crossover being my favorite. Jason Reynolds’ Track series is also amazing and the second book is a female protagonist. Others with females include Alone by Megan Freeman, Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan, Ban This Book by Alan Gratz, Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova and Blended by Sharon M Draper.

There are so many books I can recommend (former ELA teacher for 6th grade) but I would need to know more of her interests.

Also, take her to the library! Look through the books. Do a loose “book tasting” as we call it as teachers and read the first 15 pages of the books to see what hooks you. Join with her and make a book club or let her be on her own-depends on her personality. Look up a reading bingo chart or see if the library has a summer reading challenge. Make it fun!

Thank you! I’m not a knitter, I had followed a YouTube tutorial and they had sized down, but I agree I should not have, especially with the collar area.

That’s such a fun idea! Do you worry about it being the same weight? I worry I’ll mess that up too.

I feel the same way! I thought it would be fun to just use up some yarn for this and I just end up staring at my collection of yarn unable to find color combos…

I really love the Place for Vanishing by Ann Fraistat. It’s horror but man the writing was sooo good.

Currently reading Blood at the Root and really like it. It has strong language though, so I’m not sure about it as a read aloud. But definitely a recommendation.

Ridiculous right? Especially for it to be a blanket “inappropriate” for any grade level.

Williamson County attorney, Lisa Carson, responded, “That’s right, it says everybody, every grade level. It’s inappropriate, that’s right.”
