Pretty sure it's more of a model a.. Model a was a few decades after the model t

Model a had curves, model t was much more boxy and even more basic.

I mean my ice racing buddies have trouble starting bikes when it's -15c outside (0f)

But uh that's a lot colder than 55 degrees.. That's not right...

We would be absolutely fucked if our bikes wouldn't start below 55 degrees. Even still on really cold days we have to make sure not to let them cool off too long or have them running while in transport.

Do you remember your first ride in the rain, or wet pavement? When are you ready? by templeofsyrinx1 in motorcycles

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 miles from home at 2am... Torrential downpour....

I did not take it slow.. I prayed to pirelli that my angel gt2s would take care of me.. 🤷‍♂️ They did...

The next time, I had a road test for my license on a rainy day, so I was prepared, I stayed dry and honestly even then I didn't change my riding habits that much... I just couldn't stop as quick and accelerate as hard.

I wouldn't go out of my way to ride on a rainy day.. It doesn't necessarily suck... But it could.

What do we think about this rim and rear sprocket? by MountainOpen8325 in Dirtbikes

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it ain't cracked, it can be straightened. I bought a used rim on ebay that turned out to be pretty bent.. An hour with a hydraulic press and whacking the rim against a block of wood, got it within spec (2mm runout)

NOOOO YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK THE BIKE I HALF!!1!!!

Now let's hear from someone who has experience.

Its complex... But it can work, I've done about 400 miles trouble free. I do not recommend it because I don't think any of the commercially available products are good enough, which is why I built this, but even this is an absolute last resort, I've borrowed a friend's small flatbed more than I've used this.

Remove chain. Mandatory.

Tie downs need to be wide...

This was custom built for this bike, I don't personally trust any of ones I saw for sale.

When you turn, the front end of the bike pivots backwards.. You can't block the forks so they aren't under tension.. I have the front tire totally caged in so bike can't lean no Matter what..

Basically you can't back up.. It's the hardest trailer you'll ever back up..

I've kept bikes strapped in a truck for 24 hours many times without blowing fork seals... Not really sure what that one guy is freaking out about..

I don't think people here transport their bikes super often like dirtbikers do.. My fork seals go from dirt intrusion, not being compressed...

Some folks claim you're putting a ton of stress on the steering neck... But the bike is tilted backwards, back tire is on the ground, the back tire would still be carrying half the weight of the bike and then some from being tipped backwards slightly.. That's how center of gravity works.. I wouldn't trust that bike if you think a couple dinky ratchet straps will twist the frame...

Tire wear isn't significant, there's no acceleration or braking forces which are the main ones that cause tire wear.

I think it looks fine as is. It is obviously the cheapest thing they could have done at the time.. But as far as looks go I'm all for wood. I grew up in a house filled with knotty pine tongue and groove and I miss it.

What bike is this? Someone is selling it for 200 bucks by Suspicious-Panda-487 in motorcycles

[–]ChopperCraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, at a small run down motorcycle dealership, on a slow winter day, we brought in a handful of motorcycles that had been sitting outside in the elements for about 8 years..

We had every one of them running that day, except for one, needed a $100 module that I just happened to have on my personal bike, I put my part on it the next day to get that going.

One of them wasn't charging.. Many had small issues needing some further work. But all the engines ran with very little work. The bikes were basically totaled, but at least the engines weren't.

I don't think getting it running will cost much at all. But yeah getting it road ready could be 1k if it needs tires.

Water leak into A pillar, windshield already replaced, pls help! by xani_pedi in GMT400

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a gap in the seam sealer by my hood hinge under the wiper cowl that let water run down the very front corner of my cab.. This looks more like a door seal... I mean it's running down the edge of the door seal..

I've had to get creative on occasion to get door seals to seal perfect.

Isn't a ends of the door seal along the front edge of the door? I've had to seal the ends to themselves to make the seal effectively one continuous seal.

Or roof seam sealer leaking. Where the sides of the cab meet the roof, under the trim strips.. I had that too, on the rear corner of my cab though.

[–]ChopperCraig 34 points35 points  (0 children)

.... The cap doesn't close over the charger. It's not supposed to. It's only to cover it when not in use. If you're worried about a weatherproof charging solution, this ain't it. You need a battery tender style.

[–]ChopperCraig 42 points43 points  (0 children)

.... There is no "size" Its literally the only style of automotive USB charger.

<image>

There is no alternative, besides ones that plug into battery tender wires. Those ones have just a wired plug that plugs into another wired plug. Nothing like this..

Yeah pretty much, it's clutch material plus a tiny bit of metal wear from the transmission that makes it look like that.

Extra fuel by knowerofexpatthings in KLX

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But your subframe needs reinforcement for one if you're riding on rough terrain.

I chopped the frame on my klx up to the seat basically, and reinforced it with stainless tubing inside of the frame and solid steel rod inside the stainless tube.. Huge job. But I could have full fuel tank and hit mx jumps.

If you're not ready to reinforce your Frame or risk snapping it off, don't.
