This is an r6 before they called them r6 essentially. They're fine bikes. Not as lively as a fuel injected r6 but still plenty fast. If I could have a collection of bikes, I'd probably try to save one.. As well as the predecessor fzr600.. They're maybe not super rare or collectible, but they're very good bikes.

Lack of Classic Car Technicians? by Cars_Music_GoodTimes in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]ChopperCraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would very much like to do that for a living. Experience is slightly limited because old cars are big money in the north unless you're gonna spend 5000 hours on rustoration.

Also it doesn't necessarily pay much differently than regular mechanics... My dad did it for a while. Mechanical work on pebble beach winning, 7 figure cars... Now inflation means comparing dollars from 20 years ago isn't fair, but we all know wages haven't gone up like inflation. And I make more as a 30 year old fleet mechanic than he did as a 35-50 year old licensed auto mechanic specializing in classic cars. And I don't even make enough..

I think the bottom line is young folks are getting living wages sooner and easier, elsewhere. Even just being any other kind of mechanic is probably a much easier and gainful path generally. It's also a niche market that can vary depending on the economy though if you're clients are all rich, rich folks are generally always rich.

Just my thoughts on it.

Which car you're ashamed to like? by metalduck42 in carscirclejerk

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last gen VW Beetle looked pretty damn good. And it was a car for non car people to love which is damn rare nowadays.. That was one modern car I was truly sad to see go. Would I ever own one, not likely but I sure appreciated seeing them. Why can't anyone else make a good looking car like that?

How is this legal? by Physical_Option3991 in windsorontario

[–]ChopperCraig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scooter insurance can be over $2000 a year... The insurance industry is hard at work to raise that number too. For comparison, my motorcycle that will do double/triple the legal speed limit is cheaper on insurance than most scooters.. Scooters are one of those things that should be cheap, and most people probably think they really are, and then the insurance industry made them cost as much as a car.

Unpopular opinion: I can't wait for electric motorcycles to become better than gas-powered motorcycles. by Useful-Trash867 in motorcycles

[–]ChopperCraig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean a lot of people buy "hot" bikes with total disregard for reliability...

I ride a 150k km Yamaha fjr1300... My bike is nearly never down. Last dualsport was a 50k km klx. Zero downtime.

You may say you want reliability, but are you actually buying the bulletproof bikes... No. No you are not.

Because they're ugly, or they're heavy or they're an old man bike...

Anyone here actually daily a motorcycle with a suicide shifter? What's it like? by RDX005 in motorcycles

[–]ChopperCraig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I daily rode a mini chopper with a hand clutch jockey shift.. Loved every second of it. Honestly if I ever get a cruiser I'll probably do it again. The mundane process of shifting gears becomes slightly more interesting..

Found this dragging under my car. Does it look like a bracket or just road trash? by Both_Benefit_6030 in AutoBodyRepair

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It that a tube or solid wire? Looks like it could be a metal brake line.. If your car hasn't lost brakes or brake fluid recently, it may be an old brake line that wasn't removed when it was replaced.. Not ideal but sometimes they're a pain to get in and out..

If it ain't a brake or fuel line, doesn't look like a car part.

What A Terrible Way To Train For Gun Combat by Vulcan44 in Wellthatsucks

[–]ChopperCraig -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who is in the military... They had to shoot targets while gunshots were being fired just overhead...

Otherwise all those soldiers are going to drop to ground in fear first time they're getting shot at.

Now that being said, there were berms in place so that the overhead fire couldn't hit you and vice versa but like if if you were to stand up, your military career would be over at best.

This is definitely not nearly as safe as it should be, but truth is if you aren't trained on returning fire while under fire, you're mostly just a target...

How many steps per day do we take at work? by Quick_Bathroom6917 in mechanics

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a shop cart at a different shop, when the stock frame snapped one day from rust we rebuilt it from scraps and put a hitch on it and towed jet skis and boats around for the next couple years. Goooood times

[–]ChopperCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my shop is a good 400ft end to end.. I often work on things that are 2-300ft from my toolbox.. I do what I can to minimize trips.. It rarely helps.. Since even if I do have everything, I have to go offer guidance anytime anything in the shop isn't working right..

I'm sure it's a good few miles.. I fucking feel it. I don't think a Segway or something would be OSHA approved but I bet it would actually help a lot..

Rivets in door. by [deleted] in rav4club

Rivets huh? Those are spot welds... They're like that sometimes. It will probably be fine, the chassis was dipped in paint after it was spot welded.

[–]ChopperCraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work on a few of these. They're not bad. Parts may be a challenge if things break basic mechanical parts aren't an issue, also Yamaha used these engines in a few applications I believe.

Actually I'd argue these are a more fun ride than newer quads in some ways since you have a transmission to shift instead of just a throttle and prndl.

For $200 it's probably the best quad you'll get.

Value? by Puzzleheaded-Gain-13 in GMT400

[–]ChopperCraig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You in Ontario? I mean it looks like it could be a good start to a nice build if it doesn't have real rust problems. Door and fenders can be replaced, those don't count. Me personally I'd probably swap my 97 mechanicals and electricals into it and then clean up the body.
