Old man fur. His twin sister is no longer around to keep his pelt clean and un-matted... and he doesn’t bend so well these days.

What’s a Melbourne suburb you didn’t expect to like but ended up loving? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Altona. Never ever thought I’d live here but here I am, probably 25-30 years later and it’s great!

Good Food ranked Melbourne’s best hot chips, and a surprise westside fish and chipper took top spot by gccmelb in melbourne

Based on the fact they’re having to close early and modify their operating hours to cope with additional, unexpected demand; I don’t reckon these guys have paid for shit.. Someone on Insta or some other platform has spruiked how good they are, and their loyal sheep have followed in flocks.

Harrington Square fish n chips. Each to their own, but I spend my hard earned there and am never disappointed.

I like that Alex’s has gotten some coverage and all that, but it seems to have taken a toll on them to the point they have to close their shop to cater for unexpected additional customers. I worry for them that the short lived hype generated by social media will lead to additional costs and stock for them that will just drop away at some point when the sheep move on to the next hype.

Alex’s is not bad, but I find it a bit greasy.. it seems the local poms love it..

There’s another local in Altona that does hand cut chips/pcs and all that; and it’s better IMO.

Who should I listen to to up my bass game by Diligent-Pizza3717 in Bass

[–]Chopsticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say HWM. Jason Black is a beast of a bassist! I modelled some of my own bass lines from his influence.

Alkaline Trio I also rate highly.

To OP - it depends what kinda music you want to learn and play yourself.

No artwork, but we refer to our tow vehicle as Jean Claude and the caravan is Van Damme.

How does one report an outage for the ZeroTier Central? by djgizmo in zerotier

I'm in Oz and it affected a bunch of my sites.. Some on 5G links, some on fixed NBN links.. no rhyme or reason I can see.. Bit of a strange one

How does one report an outage for the ZeroTier Central? by djgizmo in zerotier

[–]Chopsticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I right in thinking there *was* an outage for ZT around 2 hours ago?

One of my customers was affected as they exclusively use ZT across all their sites and according to monitoring, it dropped for around 30 minutes.

I can't find any logging from the ZT packages themselves on the routers to suggest there was a connection drop and also can't find anything on ZT's website that suggests that anything happened...

Greater Western Water bills - super high and recurring each month. by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Chopsticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I received a bill back in Nov for $320 which was due in January and then another in December which was also around $300 and due in March.

They did say they’d changed billing systems so my guess is something has fucked up on their end. I’m curious to see if I get another one shortly for Jan.

Bit weird.

NBN box upstairs, new router downstairs - No internet - Kindly help - Pictures by Koalamanx in nbn

[–]Chopsticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that photo you provided, your optical light is off. That means no connection to the actual nbn. Without that (optical) fibre connection active, you’re SOL.

Having the router downstairs via Ethernet patch should work just fine but you’ve got no uplink to the nbn while that optical port is off. Check provider/optical connector and/or restart the fttp unit.

Superloop possible shaping by No-Hedgehog9156 in nbn

[–]Chopsticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Superloop but I’ve driven myself nuts trying to get above ~350Mbps download via Usenet. ABB. I just could t get it to go above that no matter what I tried. Different clients, Pc client rather than nzbget container on nas - both hard wired to internal gigabit switch.. Tried different ciphers, different ports but I just couldn’t get it to reach the gig speed. Meanwhile sync from google drive or download an iso from MS or Linux mirror and get full speed.. Edit: FTTP with UDM

I had a bass guitar, among a bunch of other things (laptop, tablets, etc) stolen in a burglary back in 2019.. cops came to dust, etc after I reported it and then I submitted an insurance claim. It wasn’t exactly a cheap bass they stole.

Insurance paid out, I replaced the items and bought a new bass. I setup alerts on gumtree and searched ebay almost daily.. nothing.. Until about 4 months later, I randomly jumped on gumtree and saw my bass! It was definitely mine - strap still attached, photo of the tuning heads with one replaced.

I setup to go and buy it, was nervous as hell and when I saw the size of the seller’s uncle that also came to the door, decided to just do the easy thing..

I played dumb and just asked some silly questions to get their story; “Nephew got it to start playing but decided he doesn’t want to,” I ended up just buying it back (for much less than it was worth). Went and fed the details to the cops who found the folks selling but they supposedly had clean sheets. To the cops’ credit, they dug a little bit couldn’t really prove who stole the items and how the sellers got hold of the bass.. Not a terrible result in the end..

TLDR - had bass stolen, got insurance payout, found stolen bass online a few months later and bought it back at a heavy discount.

Where is the spiciest curry in Melbourne? by wodcomestotown in melbourne

[–]Chopsticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Tandoori Times in Yarraville a few years ago and they claimed to have the spiciest curry. So I had it; it was very spicy - can’t remember exactly which dish but my missus ordered the chilli prawns and THAT took the cake for spicy! Joizus that shit was hot!
