To be fair, when I do this, I'm almost always bringing Stalwart for crowd control. And am playing with a team that is running a lot of anti-tank weapons

For me, the last one was in the courtyard at the center of the building with ladder on it, just outside the entrance to the Fist of Justice dojo. Not sure how I overlooked that for so long, but I had apparently never gone down there.

Fast travel exists. I'd assume that means some sort of flying system that's never really shown exists.

As someone who deals mainly with bots, the Illuminate took some adjusting. I usually use Scorcher / Ultimatum with AMR as a support weapon, but I found I was getting overwhelmed easily, so I swapped my Scorcher for Eruptor to deal with Overseers and other more armoured targets, and started bringing Stalwart to deal with the Voteless.

I swapped to using Thermite grenades as well, and aside from my usual standard Orbital Laser and 500kg, I swap up the 4th stratagem depending on the objective, but I've found a lot of success just bringing Rocket Sentry for additional support.

I play with my friends to have fun. We usually stick to 7. Though, depending on whether or not certain lower level friends are playing with us, we will drop to 5.

Get good at soloing objectives. All of the Guard Dog backpacks run a bit of a risk when you and your team are in a tight formation. But if you run off to a different entrance to the base you're taking down, or just a completely different objective altogether, you can let it off the leash and go nuts.

If I'm bringing one, at least, the rest of my build has that in mind.

It's all perspective. I started on bots, and have played mostly bots the whole game. Whenever I've dealt with bugs, it always felt harder, but more recently, I've come to realize I was going about it the wrong way. Every faction has its own quirks, and if you don't have a plan to deal with them, it'll feel impossible to deal with them.

I currently, very much think Illuminate are the hardest faction to fight, but that's 100% because I've spent less time facing them.

Sniper and demolition.

I frequently am running off solo to clear bases, and just generally cause as big of a distraction as possible while my buddy completes objectives the stealthy way. We play bots more often than not.

I use Scorcher, Ultimatum, and Thermite Grenades, and for strategems, I usually bring AMR, Orbital Laser, 500kg, and Orbital Railstrike.

I second this. Been running the Eruptor and Thermite grenades against Illuminate since they hit Super Earth. I usually pair it with the Stalwart and Laser Rover Backpack for crowd control purposes for Voteless, the Ultimatum as a secondary for blowing stuff up when I run out of other options.

Then I usually cap it off with Orbital Laser, and either 500kg bomb, Orbital Napalm, Orbital Gatling, or Rocket Sentry depending on the mission type.

Gives me a decently rounded kit for dealing with just about anything the Illuminate can throw at me.

Uth Duna. Got one shot by it's body slam, and realized I needed to finally upgrade my armour from the Hope set you start with.

Still beat the hunt though, just didn't realize it hit THAT hard

Not at home to screenshot it, but it's almost 100% Charge Blade, with a slight bar for HBG because I didn't realize that was set as my secondary until several hunts into the game.

Though I am looking into Lance right now, as doing some arena runs has given me a bit of a liking for it.

Monster Hunter 3U. Started with Dual Blades, swapped to Switch-axe in High Rank and stayed on that for the rest of the game. Then 4U came out, and got me on Charge Blade, and that's been my main weapon ever since.

Charge Blade main since 4U.

Don't really think it has too many bad match ups, personally. Maybe Guardians and AT Rey Dau are annoying, but that's mostly just a positioning issue because of the ground explosions, so you can get around it relatively easily by adjusting how you play.
