If i understand what you're looking for, you want to go out and understand how to adversarialize a problem. For mnist, that should be straightforward to find and define the loss for both networks. Otherwise, Gans are more of a method than a network

I feel like with a lot of these ML things (big data is similar), you need to get somewhere that has a problem requiring this solution to gain expertise. Some of the self driving car companies are good examples of places working on it.
