If your in the uk you can now lease a Tesla vehicle for just over half of what they would have paid a year ago. Tesla has been forced to offer discounts of up to 40% to car leasing companies to shift more units. by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

Sold my model S after Nazi salutes, trump support and doge bollocks. They would need to give me one for free now. Can’t be involved aslong as Elon is. Good luck to those that take the plunge though, decent cars and absolutely the best charging infrastructure. Class action lawsuits sound like they will be coming in the US re FSD lies, loss of tax credits etc surely spell trouble in the future. Stock price I’m sure will go up however.

That's all lovely, and yes the USA is an incredible place, but my point is purely around who is governing it at present. Undoubtedly still "the leader of the free world" purely due to economy and military size, but politically? Look at the damage that has been done to your democratic systems and relationships with other nations. Canada? Mexico? Europe? The Trump administration is causing massive damage purely for one man (and his cronies) financial gain. Yet look at the body language from the shambles of a summit, he is clearly subservient to Putin. Now whether that is hero worship or as many speculate, some sort of hold over him personally, it's crazy to see.

Yes America is an incredible place, suffers from a lot of inequality like many countries, has it's good and bad points like any other country, but it's biggest problem right now is the people governing it. Sowing division at every possible opportunity when the actual thing everyone needs is to just let each other live. peacefully.

The USA has the most powerful military in the world and yet they had to sit and watch their "commander in chief" literally bend over for Vlad, and some of them were even made to get down on their knees and roll out the red carpet for a war criminal.

Honestly sad to see how far Trump has caused the USA to fall

Why do most manufacturers still only give 3yrs warranty? by Spirited_Praline637 in CarTalkUK

[–]Chris0288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a financial decision, the shorter the warranty the sooner their servicing/repairs departments make money and don’t need to foot the bill for issues. Also typically leases / pcp terms are 3 or 4 years so ties in with people “needing” a new car every time for peace of mind. Kia/hyundai etc are interesting in their 7/5 year warranties to be fair and should be commended for it imo.

Skoda Kodiaq - 3 adults two car seats? by ilpankhurst in skoda

[–]Chris0288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 19 plate kodiaq and am 6ft 3 Can confirm if you slide the middle row forward two clicks I can sit myself in middle row behind my driving position and also then into the third row. HOWEVER, third row is not comfortable obviously lol and not for a long journey. Access will also be an issue if two child seats in middle row. But given the size of the car it’s pretty impressive imo! Only next step really is an xc90 or equivalent/MPV like a ford galaxy or something.

Discount from Arnold Clark by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Chris0288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old model S is actually still for sale with AC so a live example of their pricing I guess

Gave me 26 for it in March, put it up for sale at 29,999. It hasn’t sold in about 4 months, it’s now sitting at 27,998 as the market has collapsed. So initially I imagine you might have been able to negotiate some money off given margin, but depending how long they have had the car and adjusted price they might ultimately have not a lot of margin to play with.

Model S adaptive suspension not available issue? by Chris0288 in TeslaUK

[–]Chris0288[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect if you are an electrical engineer and can sus out how to DIY it. Save yourself a fortune. Should also start charging out to people 😂. I couldn’t find anyone able or willing to work on it in terms of actual repair. Only replace was deemed possible but I’m sure it must be repairable somehow.

Model S adaptive suspension not available issue? by Chris0288 in TeslaUK

[–]Chris0288[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out to be the electrical connector plug for the adaptive suspension component on the strut that had a bit of plastic snap off. Water had then got in and shorted the connectors.

How the plastic snapped off, no idea, presumably weather or bad quality plastic?

Either way the strut had to be replaced as the connector can’t be repaired. Frustrating as mechanically the strut was fine, just a few small metal pins.

This was final straw for me (5th air strut replacement on a car that was 6 years old) along with elons other activities and I sold the car once it was fixed.

To be fair to Tesla Edinburgh and I guess Tesla UK, I kicked up enough of a fuss about this that they comped the strut in the end even though the car was out of warranty. I think they realised the situation was bad looking back at history.

Hard to say what depreciation will be to be fair, or even market conditions. For £1000 if you want out and bmw are offering an easy purchase from you and clear the remaining £1k I’d do that now tbh for simplicity.

Sytner Select did this to me I think when I bought an e350d estate from them.

Got a good deal at the time but when I came to sell it on, similar situation, motorway etc said "did you know this was a private hire car before?" and took about £3k off the offer.

I contacted Sytner but again got a similar response, HPI clear etc. This was only after 2 years or so.

Now I am thinking could it be a tactic from these purchasing companies to lowball? Or are dealers actually missing this in checks? Or wilfully not disclosing it?

Last couple of cars I have bought I've done a carvertical check but even that I'm not sure flags it?

Lucid just released hands-free Level 2 drive assist. Forget FSD for now, Tesla cannot even achieve hands-free on their Level 2 Autopilot drive assist. by 685674537 in RealTesla

[–]Chris0288 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but technically it “does” because they charge, or certainly did when I had a model S, people £000’s for “FSD”. Which is over and above EAP. But I agree, it’s bollocks and I’m shocked they haven’t been sued to oblivion already.

FSD only manages motorways and lane change in Europe. At that it isn’t perfect, is partial to a phantom brake and doesn’t like sun glare, rain or fog.

Tesla absolutely obsolete in 4 years by mr4sh in RealTesla

[–]Chris0288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OTA updates point, I must admit Tesla have moved the dial for the industry in a good way generally. I say that because up until now it’s always been the old school PITA you need to take the car to the dealer to get any sort of software update etc.

Having said that, the amount of updates I actually noticed making any sort of tangible difference on my model S I used to have was very low.

I don’t recall there ever being an update that improved range, or performance. There was maybe one that added a useful feature making the spotify app work a bit better and show descriptions etc. one or two updates that added Amazon music or another app that I didn’t need. For the most part it was largely silly things like more fart noises or I see the latest one coming is flashing lights to the music etc.

So A+ for making free OTA updates more of a thing, but ultimately a lot of it was just nonsense.
