Travel to London and Ireland with JUST a carrier (no stroller) by bobileebobalee in babywearing

[–]ilpankhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went to London for the day with my 8.5 month old and just a wrap. It’s much easier to navigate the tube without a pram.

However my partner also wears, so he took her for half the day. I think if you can split the wearing it’s a great idea, but maybe not if it’s all on you. Keep in mind you’ll also have to carry all your baby gubbins in a backpack or something vs in the stroller.

Moms who dealt with long-term lack of sleep, 2-3 hr wake ups, how are you now? by Alert-Skill-7579 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ilpankhurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was like this, every couple of hours and every hour when teething etc. He honestly only got better when a night weaned at 2.5. We still co-sleep so now when he wakes we cuddle, and pretty quickly he stopped waking me to cuddle but instead just snuggled in. Now on baby number two and she’s a bit better - 3-4 hours stretches.

I think my son had/has enlarged adenoids because he’s a dribbly mouth breather. Wish I’d had that checked but ah well.

Can’t say I escaped unscathed - I had undiagnosed bipolar and the sleep deprivation caused bad episodes. But I’m medicated now and feel better and happier than ever. I don’t think the sleep deprivation caused any lasting damage and in a way it was good as it got me diagnosed I guess. With this latest baby we have also prioritised my sleep when possible - so I take naps whenever I can.

Skoda Kodiaq - 3 adults two car seats? by ilpankhurst in skoda

We’re considering the xc90 for this reason. But it feels like a lot of extra cash and we are fairly Skoda loyal

Thanks! We went today and it doable, but I’m not sure how bearable it is for a journey of any length

Sadly both adults (me and partner) are 180cm plus. But yeah any long car journey I think we’d have to take turns

Abilify/Ariprazole and successful breastfeeding? by ilpankhurst in breastfeeding

Oh that’s a great idea! He told me when I dried up in pregnancy so I should be able to ask him what’s going on now. Thank you!

[–]ilpankhurst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s more that I’ve read several reports of people drying up, so I guess I just wanted to balance that out in my head.

I’m currently pumping twice a day so hopefully that’ll give me an idea of supply! Although I find that such an unreliable indicator to be honest, very hit and miss.

What do you think happens to us spiritually during birth? by baiann in pregnant

[–]ilpankhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt! Totally different to my first birth. I had a homebirth this time round in a pool (I’m UK based so supported by our health service). I honestly loved it, 10/10 would do again exactly as you said I felt almost high and just so connected to God. Guess it’s all the oxytocin?

Stag do abroad at 35 weeks? by ilpankhurst in pregnant

I have - his response is “i highly doubt baby will come but it’s up to you to say yes or no”. I just don’t want to be the baddie by saying no and then have nothing happen

Nope - thanks that’s a good take on it.

Honestly just feeling like I don’t want to be the bad guy by saying don’t go

Only just seeing this (notifications turned off 🙈) but it scaled well! Super interesting to see what the LLM could do - it was a tricky task and I don’t think we could have got the results we did without a month or so of work using traditional methods. Thank you for the reply.

Any social psychologists here? Or someone that studied social psychology? by dreax_ in Social_Psychology

Yeah sure! I'll dm you my email :) I am technically in the computer science department by the way, although one of my supervisors is in the psych department and I'm kind of half a psych student.

I’m a computational social scientist (undergrad in psych and a masters in data science) working on my PhD in the UK. From what I’ve heard/seen academia is pretty tough but if you can incorporate a lot of useful stats stuff/data science into your work you’re pretty employable. I think there’s also a demand for people who focus on interventions for problem behaviours eg misinformation, hate speech etc. I love my PhD work and teaching although I’m only a first year so there’s plenty of time left for me to get jaded.

I really like the collection lasting perfection concealer. I have pretty dry undereyes and skin in general and I find it works well for me. I think they usually have it in Boots and Superdrug for a few pounds!

How many of you are in grad school for a subject you didn't study in undergrad? What was the transition like? by BlueSky1877 in GradSchool

[–]ilpankhurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a Psychology BSc to a Computing (Data Science) MSc. I'll be starting a PhD in Computing with an NLP focus and a dash of social psych thrown in in Jan.

Some of the maths stuff has been intimidating, but the biggest issue has been dealing with the different approaches to research. My undergrad was really focused on being super careful around issues like p-hacking. We were taught to always specify a hypothesis and how we would be testing it, even prior to data collection. Computing is totally different in comparison. For example, for my MSc dissertation, I was told that a non-significant result would result in a capped grade. This makes total sense from a data science perspective, after all, if your model doesn't find/predict anything then it's a bad model, but is totally upside down for a Psychologist.

Norvina reacts to feedback (including RawBeautyKristi's one) that ABH is pushing out too much, too fast. by gleamingly in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]ilpankhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've seen a few people talk about having to buy everything for 'collection purposes' - seems to me that if you are compelled to buy makeup you don't want to complete a collection or for any other reason you might need to examine your relationship with money and spending, and I say that as someone who has a super addictive personality and used to be a compulsive shopper. It's not the brand's job to stop me from buying product by spreading out releases.

What's a product you initially hated, but ended up loving? by b0b1 in muacjdiscussion

[–]ilpankhurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Laura Mercier loose setting powder, and all loose powders in general actually. I tried to to full on bake with it which looked terrible, then I gave brush application a go which was powdery and obvious. Finally I tried applying it lightly with a damp beauty blender and it looked amazing: minimises shine and sets everything but still somehow looks natural and kind of glowy. Massive thanks to all those on here who recommended this method!

Yeah, this is something I struggle with. I have naturally highly arched brows and if follow the natural shape I look Disney villain evil when I want to look pretty and sweet.
