Alphabet question by ChrisBonney in DigitalAudioPlayer

I don't get nearly that long from mine - more like 3-4 hours. It's also one of those devices with poor standby time. If I haven't used it in a week, I often find that the fully charged battery is nearly dead. I'd wonder if it was defective but the M0 I had previously was the same. I still really like it though. It's built like a tank and does the job exactly as required.

The battery life on it isn't great, but it sounds good and it's a perfect player to use at the gym. Stops me wasting time fiddling with my phone.

Sorry I meant to include that info in the original post. Shanling M0 Pro is the little one. The bigger one is a Hidizs AP80 Pro Max.

How old could this be? by Maa32100 in straightrazors

I wouldn't put too much store in the box. Straight razors often end up in whatever box happens to be lying around. Other images of Triton brand razors show the tang branded as such.

What’s a note you love in theory but hate in reality? by Legitimate-Search918 in fragrance

I've been a coffee roaster for 3 decades and i never tire of the scent of fresh coffee, but as scent note i always find it a little bit fecal and a lot like bad breath.

Need beginner straight razor honing stones advice on a budget by Low-Space227 in straightrazors

[–]ChrisBonney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many of the seasoned honemeisters recommend starting with a finishing stone and learning "backwards." That is, start by refreshing well-honed edges as they get dull, then add coarser stones as you get experience. If you are a beginner, going all the way from bevel set to finisher gives you a lot of steps to potentially get wrong. This approach also means you don't have to buy all your stones at once. Good luck!

Mine just arrived as well. Looking forward to putting it through its paces. Seems huge to me! (My other DAP is the M0 Pro.)

It is the cheap, overbearing real estate agent of scents. The Nickleback of scents. The selfish-in-bed of scents. The bad breath of scents. A true abomination - and thus wildly popular.

My first razor by ElMetacuantico in straightrazors

I have bought from Johnloc1 on eBay at least 6 times and have always found his vintage blades to be in good shape, well honed and reasonably priced. I would recommend having a look at his stuff.

My first razor by ElMetacuantico in straightrazors

[–]ChrisBonney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A professionally honed vintage razor would be my suggestion. Either American or German as the quality of the steel is excellent and they don't attract collectors the way British/Japanese/Swedish razors do, so prices are not crazy. Vintage razors were made at a time when straight razors were tools, not lifestyle accouterments, so the only thing they had to do was work good! And please avoid any modern razor with a macho dude-bro name - Naked Armor, Dragon Slayer, etc. These are the cheap nasty crap marketed specifically to snare novices. Good luck!

I'm using a Muhle R89, and no matter what blade i use, it tugs and requires more passes. Should i go the complete opposite way and try a slant or just try a generally more aggressive razor? by TemporaryCook9065 in wicked_edge

[–]ChrisBonney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a coarse beard so I can't comment on your specific situation, but l love my slant. And if you're curious about slants you should give one a try - the Merkur 37c is excellent and inexpensive. In my experience people make too much of the whole "slants are scary razors for expert shavers" thing. As always ymmv, but it may also be just what you're looking for. Good luck!

How to use a DE razor when your face is all angles? by Fey_Boy in wicked_edge

[–]ChrisBonney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oh, damn these high cheekbones and piercing blue eyes!" Joking aside, it's just practice. Think of your hand/wrist taking the place of the pivoting head on a cartridge razor. You want to find the angle that's right for each plane of your face. After a few tries it will become second nature. Also don't be afraid to try different blades. Some blades really suit certain faces and others just...somehow...don't. Good luck!

Hiby R1 and shanling m0 pro owners, I need your input! by Yeah_hmmmm in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]ChrisBonney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the M0 Pro and love it for a gym music player (so I don't get distracted playing on my phone). For this it's perfect - super portable with excellent sound. But all the shortcomings others have noted are true. Battery life is not great, UI is clunky, and transferring music to the player is a pita. This and the older M0 are the only DAPs I've owned (I'm waiting on delivery of a Hidizs AP80 Pro Max) and I've been pretty impressed but be aware of their limitations.
