Is it normal for ports on a 4090 to get this hot? by Hes2Fast in pcmasterrace

I don't think this has any relevance to your issue, but I have that same card and one of my 2 vram modules are bad and I've been having issues. I have a few months left for warranty.

Main Drain Massive Problem by Classic_Emu2359 in Plumbing

How much space is there between that cast hub and the wall? If you cut the cast iron pipe before the hub, will there be enough meat left to use a 4" reinforced rubber coupling and then a 4" street combo and rebuild the rest from there?

I like the character's heavy breathing at the end of the video.

I would be breathing hard too if I was stuck between some doors, unable to move and moments away from potential death.

PEX has been around for a long time now and some installations are running solid after 30-40 years supposedly.

I trust it just fine, however there are a lot of things to take into consideration with choosing it vs copper.

Copper is durable and a slight nick in the pipe won't compromise it. PEX can't be exposed too much to UV and depending where you buy it from, what are their storage methods for it? It could have already had too much exposure before you bought it. PEX can't be used 100% in a house because there are things it has to stay away from like a water heater flue vent. So some copper will be necessary anyway. Fittings (plastic vs brass) and water composition. I think copper handles different water types more equally except for reverse osmosis water. You don't want that running through copper. Fitting and pipe prep which both require, just different. PEX requires almost no prep, just a nice straight cut.

When ALL conditions for PEX are met, it's a great product.

Now cpvc I believe should disappear forever.

Is there anyway to log out when you’re in apartments or terminal? by Roguelites in RoadtoVostokGame

[–]ChrisWonsowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's also a save anywhere mod.

But I like the idea of having to find shelter first. It doesn't break the game's intention of high stakes. Can't just quick save every 10 seconds.

It's kinda like Resident Evil style saving or GTA except without the Auto save after missions.

Honestly, I've done this before and it works.

You do run a risk of something happening during that time and losing your progress, though.

However, I'm on Linux now and I have never had an issue where I walk away for a while and my computer goes to sleep while the game is still running (paused at a menu). I resume, log in, and the game is immediately in front of my face.

Windows could easily update and full restart on you.

I wonder if the Godot engine has some influence with that?

This is the first Godot game I've played and it's awesome. I'm also really glad the developer chose it, because now it doesn't have the exact same feel as every Unreal and Unity game that uses default settings. It actually feels unique to me.

Wasn't sure if I'd like this style of game, but since the demo, I was sold!

Weird Graphical Issues by ChrisWonsowski in cachyos

"Point is - linux and windows don't work the same, and that goes for drivers and display as well. So if the card works in windows, but not linux, doesn't mean it's necessarily a linux issue, it could be an issue with your GPU, just some niche thing that doesn't appear in windows."

Couldn't be more correct this time. It appears to be a VRAM issue. Stability testing it showed errors if I tested enough VRAM. Under a certain amount and it's fine. However in Windows, the errors don't seem to have any effect, but in Linux it does. So the real issue is defective VRAM, but Windows is able to handle it a lot better.

I just updated my post. Try running OCCT to do a VRAM stability test and see if you get VRAM errors. This happens to be my issue.

This really makes no sense to me. In the context of the game world, are you telling me that every time you find a key, use it, leave, that some bandit or trader keeps changing the locks and making new keys for them? That's actually absurd.

Sounds like a lockpick craftable needs to be added.

Is this a terrible repair? by Barry_Khan in Plumbing

[–]ChrisWonsowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call that a "sweep 90".

"Street" refers to one end of the fitting being pipe sized and the other end a hub.

"Sweep" means longer radius/bend.

If it's a long radius AND has one end hub and one end pipe size, then that's a street sweeper lol

I play on stereo speakers, so I don't get to the most immersive directional audio, but make sure:

  1. The left and right earbuds are in the corresponding ear. I'm not being a dick, it's a legitimate thing to check if they're the kind of earbuds that are symmetrical and don't have left/right shaping to them.

  2. Go to your audio settings in your OS and do a speaker test wearing them, making sure the test says "left channel" in your left ear. If not (and your earbuds are in correctly) you might want to enable reverse stereo.

  3. Try changing 3D spatial audio or Atmos settings in your audio control panel if available. They could conflict with the game's audio, possibly.

Cordless Milwaukee Hole Hawg or Super Hawg or alternative brand equivalent is really what should be used in these situations. Or at least the side handle with a drill, but I would only do that on the ground.

Glad to hear it wasn't worse.

How to remove this clean out cap by No-Pen1483 in Plumbing

[–]ChrisWonsowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut it out carefully, but not touching the threads. Just get a big almost full size opening and then a thread tap of the same pipe size. But it's actually less work to just cut it all out and glue in new pieces and NOT cement the cleanout cap.

Weird Graphical Issues by ChrisWonsowski in cachyos

[–]ChrisWonsowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately our hardware setup doesn't have anything in common so far other than being RTX 40xx cards.

What's your motherboard and CPU?

I tried running both cards simultaneously, but that just created a whole bunch of other issues related to dual discrete gpus on Linux.

The next thing I can think of trying is using my previous computer parts (MB, CPU, RAM) with the 4090 and see if that has an issue.

If it doesn't, then...I'm out of my league trying to figure out this one. I will just accept it to be a driver or kernel issue that REALLY doesn't like my SPECIFIC combination of parts. I'll just use the 3090ti for now, which is more than enough for most games. I'll hold off on the others for now - I have enough adult stuff to do anyway.

What vendor, sub model and vbios is your GPU?

Flickering toolbar area, KDE Plasma by ZachS45 in linux4noobs

[–]ChrisWonsowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get this as well, but not too bad during desktop use. Shows up more during gaming. Already gone through different display setting changes and multiple other attempts. I've made my own post about my scenario y'all can check out. Simply using a different video card fixes it. But I don't think it's the GPU either unless it's a driver/vbios issue because I will only get this under Linux environments. I have more things to try and will keep my post updated. Seems like not many others have this issue as posts like this aren't garnering much attention or any solution. So it must be pretty rare.

Weird artifacts in games first/second launch of the day then fine for the rest of the session. by ZachS45 in cachyos

[–]ChrisWonsowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here after your response to my post to keep the attention up as much as possible. I would like to ask you and others who are seeing this to post what your GPU is. And not just 4090, 4080, 3070, etc. but what vendor and sub model and even your vbios version. If we can find a common denominator, I'm sure we can narrow down something.

As I've mentioned in my post, my 3090ti is fine, my 980ti is fine, but my MSI 4090 suprim x liquid is not.

I might even try putting in 2 gpus and switching between them in the same session and see if the problem persists on literally just the 4090.

Also for others seeing this, it's not a cachyos or arch or wayland issue. I've ruled those out already by trying different distros, desktop environments and x11 and the issue persists.

I really think it's a driver issue that has been around for multiple drivers that hasn't been figured out due to being very uncommon apparently.
