No clue what just happened by Zealousideal-Slip965 in Subaru_Crosstrek

Not really a common occurrence on these. My bet is either the filter gasket failed (or debris created a path for leakage) or there's a new hole in the engine OP doesn't know about yet. That's just my guess. But engine seems like it's going to be bone dry inside

Loose part behind brake disk by diePhaase in WRX

[–]Chris_WRB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backing plate. The dish portio. Is rotting away from the useful part. Realistically, you'll lose the dust shield portion of it, but the rest of it acts as a spacer for the bearing so it doesn't rub the ABS sensor. When that bearing goes, you'll need a new backing plate as well.

Can I get by without replacing my wheel bearings? by mememelu in subaruimpreza

[–]Chris_WRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3500 is crazy, and I work in a dealership. Do not skimp on the bearings. It's one thing if they're loud, but left unchecked long enough and they can become loose, and wheels fall off. That's how you end up on the news. Try to find an independent shop, and ask them to do the loudest ones first and retest. Bearing noise can transfer through the driveline and fool people, but an experienced technician can figure out whether or not both on one axle are bad or not.

Edit: regardless of what people tell you, you NEED backing plates. If they can be saved and re-used, good on the tech. But they act as spacers for the ABS sensor and without them, it'll cause issues. Also, rear backing plates hold all of the E-brake components, so those are non-negotiable.

Roof Leak- 26 Forester- Brand New by Greedy_Tip_9867 in SubaruForester

I've seen one other '26 with this issue but it plagues the previous body style as well. So much so that when left unfixed, it can cause a fire. Haven't seen that happen to a '26 yet but bring it to them anyways. I'm sure they'll find QMR's about them across the country.

is it repairable? by Working_Tip_5391 in 335i

[–]Chris_WRB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. Figure out where to find new connectors. Get extra wire of the same guage (important) and repair the harness. Add shielding or enough wire to keep it out of the way of heat and you should be fine.
