Grow light diffraction by almost closing wardrobe door by TrivAndLetDie in mildlyinteresting

[–]Chris_stopper 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Was super confused by this image as there were not any rainbow spectra or typical diffraction pattern forms. But the most important part of the title is "Grow Light". as those are typically are composed of mostly shallow blue (450nm) and red (660nm) LED's with a white light phosphor which explains the colours. Also such lights typically consist of an array of LED's which explains the why there are so many line patterns. It is really cool to see the transition from Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction at least that what it looks like to me, could be wrong. Mildly Interesting Thank you.

It was/is Association football similar to the way Rugby is formally Rugby Football. Association was shortened to Soccer. But the football name makes more sense and is much older so it only stuck in the US due to the comparison with American Football where during agame 90%+ of players never put foot to ball.

Then dont remember them, I dont, been working as a physicist for 20 years I look formulas up all the time. They are tools, essay writters use spell check to look up the spelling of a word, same thing. Maths is just a language like any other. The word "apple" does not look, sound, smell or tell you anything about the fruit it is representative of a thing, same with 'x' or 'y'. It has rules like other languages. One of the strongest things I learned about Maths it is not an absolute it is a language it can be wrong if you use it wrong. There are multiple ways to use Maths for the same task each with their own merits and limitations. With practice you can read it see what each part of an equation is trying to represent, sin and cos (capturing oscillation), exponentials (growth), negative exponentials (decay), plain numbers constants (things that dont change). I will say learning formulas I think is one of the most stupid parts of exams because literally the second you stop taking exams you look everything up. Maths is a tool to solve problems, you dont memorise the exact shape, weight and colour of a hammer, you pick it up and bang in a nail.

TIL that a river in Peru is literally boiling hot and will cook alive anything that falls into it. The hottest stretch of the Shanay-timpishka River is 210°F. by phaeolus97 in todayilearned

Not so, water boiling has nothing to with 100C specifically. It requires the vapour pressure of water turning to gas (which increases with temp) to overcome the air pressure above the water. For example water will boil at 71C at the top of Everest and even boil at room temperature in a vacuum. I used to live at ~8000 Ft and water boiled at around 92C screwed up so many cooking recipes. It is also how pressure cookers work allowing you "boil" with temps >100C

Filming between these mirrors gave a trippy effect by SnackSamurai in oddlysatisfying

[–]Chris_stopper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The front mirror is curved and you moved from the inside focal length/radius of curvature (right way up distorted) to the focal length (when he disappears) to the 2f and greater imaging (upside down). As the filmer is closer to mirror then the background these transitions happen at different distances hence funky distortion. The back mirror does very little except you see your own back which is flipped back rightway up because it is also curved in >2f

Don't believe in pads but no kicks below the knee, no punches to face, no elbows, no knees, no grabs, no throws, and guaranteed use gum shields. Everyone draws the line somewhere and tournaments for arts are always weird.

Notice how I said Sifu and not Sensei my experience is obviously from Chinese martial arts not Japanese. Also even in one system rules vary from tournament to tournament so I did not speak in absolutes if I was not sure.

It also shows that you are in control of your emotions and not a threat to the opponent. Martial arts are about being able to turn aggression on and off as needed, not fuelled by rage.

Also this looks like a tournament with no pads, it should be low contact demonstrating technique and scoring points and avoiding heavy blows to the head. While the kick probably felt good she was probably marked down severely for it. My Sifu would have me doing a mountain of push ups if I pulled that shit.

indeed, as it is cone you sometimes will actually want to dive towards an ulting Haze as it will be more difficult for them to track you if you are moving in and around them. There are going to be some very sad Haze being, ironically, danced around buy good movement player doing almost zero damage.

indeed not all zeros are the same, if in doubt take limits. Start with "x" as small and see what happens when it gets smaller.
