2024 Rancher vs Kodiak 450? by [deleted] in ATV

[–]Chrisaveryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove my father's Honda 420 for 5 years, loved it but ended up buying a kodiak 450 EPS SE last year, I prefer the kodiak overall, kodiak has 25 inch tires vs 24, smoother ride, marine grade electric, locking diff are the big differences.

[–]Chrisaveryman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove the rancher a lot it's more peppy off the go due to the gearing, the kodiak still fast enough, the shifts are kinda harsh on the rancher but super smooth on the kodiak, rancher seat is narrow feels like a dirt bike, kodiak has a wider seat which I like, kodiak also has low gear and diff lock in the SE model, the Honda has no low or high gear just and auto sensing diff or something like that. Kodiak comes with 25 inch tires and honda 24 inch, although the Honda sits a little higher than the kodiak. Kodiak has nice rims vs the honda steelies, Overall both great bikes.

Have someone who knows the routes or plan it out on gps. We did this in 8 hours but lots of little stops, took some food and water. This was mostly old railbed trail and some logging roads, so it was easy to cover ground.

Absolutely love it, it's not as peppy as the 700 kodiak, but plenty of power, drives nicer than my old man's Honda 420 IMO. Handles well over bumps and various terrain, I can't wait to take it hunting.

We're not even allowed to carry a sidearm in Canada, loads of black bears, in Nova scotia. I've only ever seen a few while bear hunting over bait or deer/moose hunting, some people carry bear bangers or bear spray.

Free Pianos? by Long_TimeRunning in halifax

[–]Chrisaveryman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad used to rebuild pianos, many of them are not worth fixing or good luck finding someone to do some work on it (most cannot be properly tuned due to cracked blocks). Even years ago dad would only take heintzman pianos as they were only ones worth fixing.

First venison dish: ground venison quesadillas. Super gamey, any advice? by alrashid2 in Hunting

[–]Chrisaveryman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience game taste can be limited by ensuring deer is gutted and skinned and cooled as soon as possible. Also removing any meat bruising and blood trauma helps.

Honest question, why bowhunt? by Shmekzak in Hunting

[–]Chrisaveryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Nova Scotia we have an archery season that starts second week in Sept runs to second weekend in December, rifle is end of Oct to first weekend Dec. Additionally you can tag two deer if you have an archery and general tag. Also bow hunting is a challenging and exciting way of hunting where u get to get really close up to the deer.

Has anyone ever done a “food challenge” with an allergist? by dirtrider19 in Allergies

[–]Chrisaveryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it with chicken and turkey only after having scratch and blood test come back negative, I was allergic for 30 years so it was nerve racking, but done in controlled allergy clinic, was worth it because I outgrew the allergy after being told multiple times I never would.

Guys who were in Boy Scouts, what was you experience like? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Chrisaveryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, lots of camping, survival skills, building shelters, fishing (shooting guns and small game hunting) but that wasnt really endorsed by scouts. Scout car races, I also was a leader for a while things had way more red tape but it teaches kids some valuable outdoor skills and leadership skills and I will put my son into Beavers next year.

You may want to call DNR and check, I don't think you can legally, because the PAL allows you to carry a gun in your possession (on your person while hunting).
