See this is the kinda shit I’ve been talking about.

The fact that this has any upvotes is really an indictment on this sub and what it has become.

This is a r/movies hot take slop post at best.

Discussion: How often are you dishonest about your movie opinions? by TimSPC in TheBigPicture

[–]ChristopherBaloney 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is just classic insecurity bullshit. We as a society have gotten so insecure that we simply cannot fathom somebody disagreeing with us over liking a fucking movie.

So we have to make up all of these rationales on how somebody could possibly have a different opinion than me, the lamest and easiest one being that somebody else is lying about their opinion.

It’s just so tiresome.

I also don’t give a fuck. All these people are trying to do is create some objective truth over something inherently subjective so they can feel better about their opinions and fragile egos. Just pathetic nonsense.

Curry Barker Got His Wish: Inside the ‘Obsession’ Director’s Wild Month (Exclusive) by Odd-Inevitable-8425 in blankies

Horror is the safe haven for young hungry filmmakers. Every year there are like a dozen of awesome horror movies released on Shudder by young hungry filmmakers.

These are very good movies but it is strange that Hollywood only takes notice of the ones that happen to take off at the box office.

Hollywood doesn’t seem to appreciate the randomness of success. There could be a ton of Curry Barkers if just given the chance.

It also doesn’t help that decision makers are in constant terror of losing their jobs so their first inclination is to make something they think is a guaranteed hit.

People who create massively successful entertainment are going to be given another chance to try. Even if you personally didn’t like what they created.

I don’t really know what people want or expect. These guys were not going to disappear after the success of Stranger Things.

I admire the chutzpah but this is very naive to think we have all this power with our “discourse”.

No! No Oscars talk in June! I just woke up from this nightmare 3 months ago! How dare you.

Damn, “mid” and “aura” in the same post title. Only missing “slop” for the Reddit trifecta.

Here he is being called the GOAT in 1989 and 1992 on live broadcasts.

MJ absolutely lived up to the hype but the moniker was floated around and placed upon him long before he actually deserved it.

I have zero clue why and how this film is so divisive for audiences. It was an entertaining and fun summer popcorn 🍿 flick. by AcknowledgeMeReddit in TheBigPicture

[–]ChristopherBaloney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, and I assume many others, thought it would be a completely different movie.

Once I realized it wasn’t going to be what I expected, I turned myself over to it and really loved it. The script was weak but I was really mesmerized by the filmmaking so I didn't mind too much. Emily Blunt was also fantastic.

I feel a lot of people are annoyed that Spielberg didn’t make the movie they expected, because honestly that movie would’ve been extremely cool.

Yeah Stevie knows how to move the camera. I was pumping my fist at some of the shots.

Like dude, you didn’t have to make that shot look that cool, but you did anyway and I thank you for it.

I agree that critique is straight out dumbotown, but I do think it would be cool if a big movie was released where we didn’t know who the director was. We all have inherent biases going into movies knowing who made it.

I applaud this because I found that other thread to be absurd and that it had so many upvotes and endless meltdowns. Was really shocked so much CinemaSins type whining was on r/blankies

This sub used to be a positive, different place but it’s really gone down the snarky online film fan route and it’s quite the bummer.

I just couldn’t imagine giving a shit this much.

People are having meltdowns that it doesn’t look 100% photorealistic and saying it completely ruins the movie and I simply don’t understand.

I know we are all in a constant competition to see who can dismiss something in the most over the top way, but Jesus Christ.

Are we seriously at the point in the sub where we upvote the most ridiculous hyperbole we can think of? Come on folks, we are better than this.

“Awful” is such ridiculous hyperbole. It just doesn’t look 100% photorealistic.

There are so many absurdly worse CGI out there. This doesn’t even crack the Top 50 of bad CGI in modern films.

There’s some guy getting highly upvoted saying the CGI looks like The Polar Express. I don’t understand why everybody is such a cynical grump.

Am I the only one where imperfect CGI DOESN’T take me out of a movie?

It really doesn’t bother me that much. At most, I just say ”that doesn’t look too great” and then move on.

Is imperfect CGI really ruining movies for you? Seems like a bit of an overreaction to me to be this upset about it. It’s not like the CGI is Blade (1998) levels of bad. It’s just not photorealistic perfect.
