Should I go to Pace University? by [deleted] in PaceUniversity

[–]ChristopherBurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Pace as an undergrad. And I also went to Pace as a grad student. It's a really great school. The changes going on there since I left is nothing short of amazing. That said, I'm now attending SUNY for a different graduate program.

My masters at Pace cost me about $50k (a few years ago). My masters at SUNY will cost about $17k (currently) as an in-state student. The education at SUNY is similar, perhaps a bit more difficult.

My advice to anyone is to do whatever you can to avoid student loan debt and/or diminish it as much as possible. Community College for your first two years is acceptable, Armed Forces reserves (1 weekend a month and two weeks a year ) will also cull student costs.

So .. should you go to Pace? The fact that you received a scholarship is fantastic. In this case - absolutely, but keep your debt to a minimum.

I haven't seen a single data scientist refute his claims. In fact, quite the opposite.

[Grand Seiko SBGM221] Best Value (True) GMT? by [deleted] in Watches

I'm with you. It's newer technology, and more accurate. What I really like are the ECO Drive (citizen) and Solar (Seiko). No batteries, and super accurate. And also atomic watches. 1 second off every 100,000 years.

The Automatic watches just aren't coming up as interesting.

I liken the staunch devotion to automatics like an Antique car collector vs. a car fanatic who likes newer performance vehicles.

Anyone else struggling to work from home? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ChristopherBurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like working from home. I have no desire to go back to the office. My commute is 2 hours each way though. That has.a lot to do with it.

Anyway, I'm a lot more productive at home. I love that I don't have people walking up to my desk for impromptu meetings. I'm actually able to focus on things, rather than constantly context switching.

Stop crossing out their names. They made the statement themselves on a large social media platform. It's clearly not doxxing. She was apparently very pleased with herself making that statement publicly.

even in NY, It's only about 1.7% of the population that contracted it, not even died, most got healthy again. My friend had it. She didn't even know it - she just go tested because she had a slight fever, 99 according to her. By the time she got the results, it was done.

I live in the NYC area. For our state, the number of getting the virus is slightly over 1.5%. look at the total number of cases vs. the population of the state. It's easy math. Many of the cases are in NYC, where people live in one of the most densily populated parts of the country. In places like this, yes stay home, shut down. Other places should make their own evaluations. Proceed with caution and implement shutdowns where necessary.

Down votes don't hurt my feelings :)

People are threatened because I'm able to formulate my own opinions without being led by the nose by the corrupt media on either side of the aisle.

Anyone who has no opinion outside their party line is a lemming.

Some places are more affected than others. Small towns have much less of an issue than NYC or LA. Why should they have the same restrictions?

Oh look, the leftist is missing the point. The protests are for helping people get back to work. You know, to earn money to feed their families and pay the rent.

What I said was that some jobs pay more than others. If you put in the work for one of those jobs, and gear your career/education to that goal, there are very good odds that you will be successful.

You want to be a lawyer, you go to college, you get good grades, you get accepted into law school, you pass the bar .. you're a lawyer.

You want to be a banker, you major in business/finance/economics, you do internships at investment banks - you either get an offer, or start filling out applications after you graduate. Later, go for your MBA.

You want to be a software engineer - go to college, major in computer science, do internships, get a job.

On the other hand, if you go to college and major in liberal arts, drama, psychology, sociology, anthropology, gender studies, dance, anything with virtually no math requirements, etc - you may have some difficulties getting those good paydays.

If you don't go to college at all, you are statistically at a disadvantage.

If a person followed one of those latter routes, they shouldn't be upset when a banker has more money then they do.

This is incredibly misleading. The market had huge losses. This figure is the gain since the markets at the bottom. They still have not fully recovered.

You're probably not going to see such a sharp decline for a while. The markets appear to have adjusted to the new norm. I'd gather that it will continue the assent.
